sleepy, rainy days

It was an awful night. Adia wouldn't stay asleep. She kept waking up screaming and nothing would help. Eventually I just brought her into bed with us. It wasn't much of a solution because she still kept waking up. She was up for the day at 6:30, screaming. That's not exactly the best wake up call. Scott ended up getting up with her, but neither of us got much more sleep. She ended up having a butt explosion for him and not long after that I got up. It's really hard to sleep when all you can hear is, "Mamamama mommy."

I was planning on going for a walk, but I looked outside. It was pouring rain and part of the parking lot was flooded. I fed Adia breakfast, but she wasn't too interested in the sweet potatoes or yogurt. I went to change her and she had a diaper full. She had another explosion in just a couple hours. I decided no more yogurt.

We played on the floor for awhile. She had been preoccupying herself until she saw my laptop. She started squirming and trying to grab it. When I wouldn't let her have it, she started screaming. That woke Scott up. She got excited to see him. I then got her to take a bottle and sleep for a little while. Scott took a shower. When she woke up, I put on her toddler songs. She loved it. She sat and played while I folded the HUGE pile of laundry. She didn't last through all the laundry though and I had to put her in my lap while I folded. She still wasn't particularly happy, but got lots of attention from Scott when he got out of the shower.

We spent most of the rest of the day in the house. Scott played with Adia and I got her to take a nap. Then it was back to playing. While she was sleeping I researched new baby carriers. The Bijorn just isn't cutting it much anymore. It's ok for short shopping trips, but more than 30 minutes and it's painful. She's only 15 lbs too. I finally found one I liked. It's called a Kozy carrier. I also liked the Beco, but at $120, it was out of my price range. The Kozy carrier can be used in the front, back and on the hip. It can also be used from newborn to 35 lbs. I'm thinking I'll get plenty of use out of it. Not to mention it comes in fun prints and has a pocket in the front large enough to hold cloth dipes. I can't wait for it to get here. It's my birthday present from my mommy!

After lots of more playing, we decided to go out for dinner. We didn't know how Adia would act, since she'd been pretty fussy and crabby all day, but she was awesome. She was bundled in pink corduroy overalls, pink uggs and her pink sweater. She looked adorable. We had the hood up when we went outside and she kept sticking her tongue out to taste the rain. She loved the restaurant. She was watching everyone and smiling at the servers. Then she started babbling with her tongue sticking out. She didn't last the whole time in the high chair, but she was happy the whole time. After I finished eating, I got her back so Scott could eat. I bounced her on my knees and she had the biggest grin on her face. She loves to play horsey.

She started to fuss in the car when we were almost home. We got her stripped down to her diaper so she could eat. She ate 1/2 a jar of sweet potatoes and 1/3 jar of pears. She did really well with both and didn't get fussy until I tried to wipe her face off. She did try to stick the spoon in her eye though. Bath time was fun too. She started splashing like crazy. She was shooting water everywhere, but wasn't too happy when she got water in her own face. Scott grabbed the camera for me, but she knew it was there and stopped. Scott dressed her and they had a blast. She was laughing and squealing. When I got her for the bottle, she smiled at me and lunged. I fed her and she fell asleep for a little while. She woke up when the TV made a funny noise. She didn't fuss though, but didn't want the bottle. At that moment Scott's mom showed up. Adia smiled at her and she took her, to try to get her to sleep.

more sleep

It was rough getting her to sleep last night. She kept waking up screaming every time I laid her down. Eventually I tried letting her cry it out and it was a total disaster. When I finally went in a got her, she was wide awake and mad. I brought her back to bed with me and she started looking around and smiling at me. Then the babbling started. I thought I would never get her to sleep. I grabbed a bottle and ended up getting her to sleep that way. She slept in bed with me until 3. I gave her another bottle and when she was asleep, I laid her in her crib. She slept until 6:30. I actually feel like I've slept. She seems a little tired though. She woke up screaming because she was on her tummy and stuck. She did smile when I changed her diaper though.

Then into the jumperoo while I made Scott his lunch. Within seconds I heard the grunting and straining. I was picturing the explosion and kind of dreading the diaper change. I finished his lunch and picked her up. She didn't particularly smell and there was no stain on the back of her pjs. I took her into the bedroom and opened her diaper. There was hardly anything in there. It was easy to change and I put her in cloth. I used a liner because there has to be more than that today. I put her back in the jumperoo and she started watching Carebears. She looked a little dazed though. I'm thinking she may not have gotten enough sleep last night.

After the jumperoo we tried breakfast. She had a couple bites of pears and yogurt, but she didn't seem very hungry. It was funny when I handed her her spoon though. It had some of the yogurt mixture on it and of course it went straight into her mouth. She gave me a look like I had tricked her horribly. She pulled it out of her mouth, but then put it back in. She kept doing it until she had eaten all the yogurt off. She made a huge mess and tried to fling the yogurt too.

Breakfast was short and she went back to playing. She sat in the bouncy chair while I took my shower. She didn't complain for most of it, but towards the end she started fussing. I looked around the shower curtain and noticed she was chewing on the end of the toy bar. She had completely ripped it off and was mad she couldn't get to the toys. She was even angrier when she dropped the toy bar. I could tell she was tired too. She kept rubbing her eyes. I made her a bottle and tried to get her to sleep. She slept for maybe 45 minutes and was then wide awake. She spent a little time in her crib, playing with her mirror so I could do laundry. Then I tried to keep her entertained with her toys, but she only wanted to be held. I turned on some toddler songs and she just stared at the stereo. She couldn't figure out why she could hear kids without seeing them. She did like it when I made the funny hand motions that went with the songs or we danced. The clapping from "If You're Happy and You Know It" scared her. She's still not a fan of loud noises.

playing in her crib, notice she finds the tag

Sitting on Tanae's couch

Shortly thereafter my mom arrived with Tanae. We went downstairs to meet them and Tanae went crazy. She saw us and screamed, "HI! Hi! Hi!" My mom brought her over to us and I thought Tanae was going to hug me. Nope, she only wanted Adia. She gave Adia a huge hug and wouldn't let go. Adia looked confused and a little alarmed at first, but eventually hugged back. We couldn't get her to let go so I ended up holding both of them and carrying them up the stairs. Tanae proceeded to take the living room apart and Adia reached for my mom. When Tanae saw Adia in my mom's lap on the floor, she ran over and hugged Adia again. Then she tried to give Adia kisses and pet her hair. Adia looked alarmed again, but then started smiling at her. Tanae would hand Adia a toy and when Adia started chewing on it, Tanae would take it back and try to put a different one in Adia's mouth. It was funny.

DiDi, Adia and Tanae

After playing for a while, we left to go shopping. Tanae needed some clothes and Adia needed some pants. We went to a secondhand store and Tanae got some cute clothes and a coat. I couldn't find anything for Adia though. It seems that every baby wears the same size as her. We then went to Walmart. Adia got three pairs of sweatpants. They'll be perfect when we walk AND will fit over her cloth dipes. She also got some more sippy cups, that have handles and a couple mesh teethers. The best thing though was her new strawberry shortcake winter hat. It came with matching mittens. I can't wait to torture her with those. She won't know what to think.

showing off her itty bitty tooth and you can kind of see the one next to it

Since we had picked up everything we needed, we decided to go eat. We went to Denny's because they have a fun kid's menu that Tanae really likes. Adia sat in my lap and had fun banging on the table. Tanae sat in the high chair and watched Adia intently. Adia started watching Tanae with all her munchies and was reaching for them. She got really mad when Tanae started eating grilled cheese. Adia seems desperate to eat real food, but when you actual give her "solids" she doesn't want them. I did share my cinnamon apples with her though. It's the first time I've seen her open her mouth that wide so many times in a row. They were really sweet, so of course she liked them. When we were done eating, Adia turned towards Tanae and babbled something at her. Tanae smiled and said something back. I think that made Adia's day. She got a huge grin on her face and wouldn't stop smiling.

On the way too pick Scott up from work, both Tanae and Adia fell asleep in their car seats. When we first got in the car, Tanae handed Adia her sweatshirt. I gave Tanae back her sweatshirt, but Tanae handed it back. Adia smiled and then pulled it over herself and fell asleep. Tanae smiled and fell asleep too. After getting back home, Scott took Adia out of the car while in her car seat and my mom headed back home with Tanae. Adia woke up when she got back in the car and smiled at Scott. She was really surprised to see him. You could tell she was still tired so he fed her 6oz and she went back to sleep.

asleep in the car with Tanae's sweatshirt

When she woke up, it was dinnertime. I didn't think she was hungry because she had just eaten 6 ounces, but I was wrong. She almost finished an entire jar of sweet potatoes! Once again, she had her own spoon. She would chew on it and when she'd take it out, I'd try to sneak in some food. My little girl likes to sword fight though. She would whack my spoon away with hers, like we were fencing. She is very good at blocking AND flinging sweet potatoes. She easily swallowed her fluoride. Then I cleaned her off and Scott took her into the bathroom.

She played with mirror baby while I prepared the tub. She was great in the tub. She sat and played with her cups for a long time. She'd bang them together while throwing water at me. She only complained when I laid her down to wash her hair. She started crying and only calmed again when she was sitting again. On the way back to sitting she noticed her turtles out of the corner of her eye. She kept trying to reach for them so I grabbed one and handed it to her. She started babbling to it. I told her it was a turtle and she responded with another word. I told her turtle again and she looked at me very sternly and repeated her same word again. She played with the turtles for a few minutes before turning and trying to grab the side of the tub. I pulled her out and put her in her hooded towel. She was happily sitting in my lap while I turtle wrangled and drained the tub. She fussed for a second and when I looked down, I noticed she'd puked a little. I had Scott put her on the counter while I took the towel. She started to fuss a little while being flat again. I sat her up once her diaper was on and she started reaching for Scott. In order to dress her, he started playing peek-a-boo with her. He went out the door and would open it. She smiled every time and would wiggle in anticipation while the door was closed.

peek-a-boo with daddy

After she was dressed, it was the usual bottle and snuggles. I also gave her some teething tablets. She is definitely becoming a drug addict. She sees the teething tablets and she starts to open her mouth. She doesn't even do that half the time with the spoon. She happily took the tablets and then we snuggled on the couch. She was asleep in no time. Lets just hope she stays that way and there's no screaming tonight.

sleep

After a rough start to the night, Adia slept in her crib 10-4. She only woke at 4 because she was on her tummy. She was then up 4-5, but slept with me until 7. So I actually got some sleep last night. I still felt tired, but not quite exhausted. Adia was very cheerful when she woke up. After a diaper change, she jumped for at least half a hour. Then it was breakfast. She had sweet potatoes and plain yogurt. I mixed some of the sweet potatoes into the yogurt. She wasn't so sure about it, but did eat 1/2 jar of sweet potatoes and quite a bit of the yogurt.

Once she was cleaned up, I had to find something warm for her to wear. Winter seems to have suddenly started today and it was cold and rainy out. I looked through her drawers and saw the fuzzy duck outfit her Aunt and Uncle gave her for Christmas last year. It was 0-3 months so I didn't think it would fit. The pants have feet sewn in, making it likely too short. Nope! It fit perfectly. Everything, including the hat, was the right size. The only part that was short were the arms. I had to take pictures of her in it because it was just too cute. It made her look so little and young though.

my little model moved into these positions on her own

Our walk was interesting. I got downstairs and strapped her in between rain showers, but I also had to figure out how the rain cover went. No directions of course, just a big sheet of plastic with 4 holes on the corners. It took me a little bit, but I eventually figured it out. Adia was thoroughly confused by it, but started chewing on her toys and quickly forgot about it. She ended up falling asleep and woke up just as we got home. She grabbed on tight when I took her out and didn't want to let go. Even though the cover kept her completely dry, being against me got her damp. I hadn't been using any rain protection.

she looks so tiny

I took my shower and then gave her a bottle. She fell asleep on the couch for a little over a hour. Scott and I got to play more Halo, but she woke up before we could finish the level. We changed her diaper and she acted like she wanted to jump so back in the jumperoo she went. We played while she jumped. When she got out of the jumperoo, she wanted to play on the floor. She happily played while watching us play, but it never lasts. She then wanted to play with us. At first she tried to steal my controller, so we stopped playing video games and started playing with her. She was in a great mood. I ended up getting her to laugh AND we got it on video. Our intention was to video tape the new weird tongue thing she does since getting teeth, but of course she stopped the second she heard the camera turn on. She KNOWS!! We managed to get a few seconds of the tongue thing, but not much. The laughter was better.

Adia meeting Scott's giant Eeyore after her diaper change

Scott then took a shower so we could go to the store. Adia was cheery in the car and at the store. I carried her around in the bijorn. She was kicking her feet and reaching for anything I picked up. Everyone kept oohing and aahhing over her. She's really going to have issues when she's older. It doesn't help when she smiles at everyone. She fussed and cried on the way home, but Scott gave her a bottle and she slept for 45 minutes. She woke up happy. I felt bad though because we had to then take Scott to work. We hit rush hour traffic and a normal 10-15 minute drive took over 30 minutes. Adia screamed the whole way there and back. She had tears streaming down her face, her nose was running and her forehead was all blotchy. She clung tightly to me when I got her out of the car. She had such a tight grip on me, I couldn't set her down to change her diaper. Eventually she let me set her down. She started playing with her toys and squealing and babbling in delight. I did laundry and made dinner while she played.

Adia had sweet potatoes and yogurt with pears for dinner. She ate all her sweet potatoes, but wasn't really interested in the yogurt. She didn't spit it out though. Her main fascination, besides the spoon she stole, was the sippy cup. The second I put it on her tray, that's all she wanted. She tried holding it herself, but she needs something with handles. She drank quite a bit of the water before wanting her bath.

She had fun in the tub. She sat like a pro, banging cups together. Then she saw the turtles and grabbed for them. I handed her one, which she dropped and then watched float around in front of her. She grabbed it and used it to bang against the cup she was holding and chewing on. She played for a long time before rubbing her eyes and reaching for me. She cried when I dressed her, but was happy when I set her on the floor while I cleaned up from her bath and grabbed a bottle. We snuggled while she ate and she was out before 8. She woke up 5 minutes after I set her down, but when I picked her up, she let out a huge burp. She drank another ounce before falling back to sleep.

As you may have noticed, there was no poop talk today, but that's because there was no poop. She went the entire day without going which means tomorrow is going to be bad or she'll have a blowout while she's sleeping. I'm definitely not looking forward to that. Hopefully the pears will help a little.

another tooth!

After another night of cosleeping and little sleep, Adia was up at 5:30. I definitely don't do 5:30. I got her to play in the jumperoo and I tried to sleep on the couch. I didn't have much luck, but at least I didn't have to entertain her. She played for a long time before filling her diaper. It wasn't too bad of a diaper change and into cloth she went. I was too tired to walk so I took a bath instead. Adia had fun in her bouncy chair. At first she would just pull the toys off the toy bar, but I guess that got boring because she soon discovered she could removed the whole toy bar. She pulled it off and started waving it around. She looked very proud of herself.

playing in the bathroom

She was getting tired and rubbing her eyes. I got her comfy on the couch and handed her a bottle. She grabbed it from me and stuck it in her mouth. She then held it until she fell asleep. She's been doing that more and more lately. She sometimes has problems tipping it far enough back, but she's certainly gotten much better at it. She slept for a hour and a half, but of course woke up shortly after Scott and I started playing Halo. We sidetracked her with her toys and the jumperoo so we could continue playing, but that never lasts. I ended up making dinner while Scott played with her. She was so happy to have her daddy's undivided attention. While I was in the kitchen I could hear her grunting. I knew exactly what she was up too. The second I finished dinner, so did she. Scott went to change her and of course it was a major blow out. It stayed contained inside the cover, but the inside of her cherry cover was pretty gross. We cleaned her up, with her trying to get her hands in it the entire time. After get cleaned, we ate and played with her at the same time. She looked like she really wanted what we were eating.

After lunch, Scott took his shower and Adia and I played. While playing, she bit me and I felt another tooth coming in. Her left bottom tooth is coming in now too. No wonder she's been cranky. Next thing we know it will be her top two also. I guess she wants to make up for lost time. So not only are her gums bothering her, but she has snot pouring down her face constantly. When she sleeps, she snores and when he nose is running, she tried to wipe the snot away with her arm or anything nearby. She also snotted both Scott and me. I feel so bad for her because there's nothing I can do. She's got hurting gums, a runny nose and sneezing. Hopefully it will all end soon so she can get some relief.

We took Scott to work and Adia fell asleep on the way there. She woke back up when I unhooked her car seat. She was awake when I brought her into the house and changed her diaper. I gave her a bottle and she fell asleep next to me on the couch, snoring like crazy. She was cranky when she first woke up, but as soon as she saw her toys, she wanted to play. She played by herself for almost a hour while I put pictures in her baby book. At one point the was trying to wiggle herself over to Scott's laptop. The next time I looked up, she was going for the power cord, about to put it in her mouth. For a baby that's not very mobile, she finds a way to get around. She's been going from sitting to a roll that looks like it should end in a crawl, but she hasn't figured that part out yet. Give her a few days and I'm sure she'll have it. She gets so frustrated that she can't move around.

Adia had sweet potatoes for dinner. I tried oatmeal too, but she didn't want any. She did eat 1/2 jar of sweet potatoes though. When I showed her her sippy cup she got excited. She grabbed it and kept putting the spout in her mouth. She would be able to do it herself except she doesn't tip it up enough. She did drink a lot of the water. She only got upset when I tried to wipe her face off. She had sweet potatoes, oatmeal and snot smeared everywhere. She took her fluoride like a pro. She first fought the syringe, thinking it was probably Tylenol, but once she tasted it, she drank it easily.

She talked to mirror baby when we got into the bathroom. She also had fun in the bath. She sat up the whole time. At first she banged two of her cups together. She'd dunk them in the water and then smack them together. In the process she would spray water everywhere. The first time startled her, but after that she was having a blast. Then she saw her turtles sitting on the ledge. She kept looking at them and then at me. I put them in the tub and she watched them with her mouth hanging open. Once she realized they wouldn't bite, she started grabbing at them. It was definitely one of the longest baths she's had in weeks. She reached for me when she wanted out. I dressed her and set her on the floor with her toys so I could make her a bottle. She was happily playing, but lunged for me when I walked by.

She didn't act like her teeth were bothering her tonight so I didn't give her anything. She cuddled up to drink her bottle, but wouldn't stop grabbing her feet. She was kicking and grabbing. I thought she would never settle down enough to sleep, but after a few minutes she did. I'm once again hoping for a good night.

mirror baby is back

We had another tough night. We ended up co sleeping after trying for over a hour to get her to stop screaming. I got a little bit of sleep, but not much. When Adia woke me up at 2am, she was laying next to me on her tummy. I fed her and she went back to sleep. She woke me up off and on all night, but that's pretty normal when we co sleep. She was up for the day at 6:30 and she played in her jumperoo for a long time while I slept on the couch. She only wanted out because she had filled her diaper. Luckily it hadn't escaped, but it was nasty and smelled horrible. After that I put her in cloth and we played on the floor for a little bit. I thought for sure that I wouldn't make my walk today because I was so tired, but after breakfast, I got us ready to go. We were later than normal, but Adia seemed really happy to be in the stroller. It wasn't too cold this morning, but I still bundled her. She fell asleep for most of the walk. We were just a few blocks from home she woke up. She was a happy girl, but I missed out on a cute sleeping picture.

When I unbundled her after the walk, her face, hands and feet all were ice cold. The rest of her was really warm though. I took my shower and she played the whole time. After my shower I managed to get her to take a nap on the couch. She slept for a hour and a half, but woke up just as Scott and I were getting engrossed in Halo. It's that baby radar thing again. We tried to keep her occupied so we could keep playing, but we didn't have any luck.

She did need a clean diaper though so Scott took her. There was poo everywhere when he opened her diaper. It was really nasty, slimy and smelly. Not to mention totally stuck all over her. She must have pooped in her sleep or shortly before. I ended up taking care of the nasty cloth dipe and washing the cover and once cleaned up, Adia ended up sitting next to Scott on the couch, watching Harry and the Hendersons. She was chewing on her remote, leaning towards him. Her clean butt must have been feeling much better, even though it looks a little sore. There will be no more applesauce for my little princess for awhile.

Adia was really silly while we ate lunch. She kept trying to put her hands in our food and steal stuff. She watched every bite go from Scott plate to his mouth. I gave her a bottle afterwards and thought for sure that she'd sleep, but of course she didn't. She only got tired right before it was time to take Scott to work. She cried a little on the way there, but fell asleep on the way back. It was the first time in a week that she didn't scream all the way home. I was hoping I could get her out of the car without waking her, but it didn't happen. She woke up, looked at me and didn't smile or cry. I did attempt to get her back to sleep, but no luck there either. She drank some of the bottle and then wanted to play. I was really tired so I set her on the floor, surrounded by toys. The next thing I knew it was 20 minutes later. It must have been a 20 minute power nap because I felt much better when I woke up.

Adia still wanted to play, but also wanted to hop. I set her in the jumperoo and she went after the bird. She was perfectly happy playing and even let me go in the kitchen while she bounced. She really likes that she can grab the bird and frog now. She'll grab one and then eye the other and desperately try to reach it. She did succeed in getting both tonight. She was thrilled, but didn't know what to do next. She couldn't move enough to chew on either so she eventually let go of the frog. She likes the bird more because it has a tail that's easy to grab and eat and the tag is always a plus too.

Dinner was interesting. She had sweet potatoes and carrots, but wouldn't eat the oatmeal. I don't have any fruits except pears that seem to be ok with her tummy. I think I may try bananas again. They didn't seem to upset her tummy, she just didn't particularly like them. I need to get a mesh teether so I can put frozen banana in there. I bet she'd like that. The only way I like bananas are frozen. She made a mess eating tonight since she stole the spoon. She had oatmeal and carrots everywhere, even on her eyelids and in her hair. She didn't seem to mind until I tried to clean some of it off. Then she turned into a screamer.

Mirror baby made everything better though. I left her in front of the mirror for ages because she was so happy. While she played, I got her bath ready. She started watching me and leaning towards the bathtub. I took that as a clue that she wanted in the tub. She didn't last long though. I managed to wash her hair and get most of the food off of her. She was happy to see mirror baby again, but was also very clingy. I managed to get her dressed, but she fought the whole time. Then it was Tylenol, teething tablets, a bottle and snuggles. I laid her down at 8:30, only to have her wake 15 minutes later. After some crying, orajel and another bottle, she was asleep again. Now I just hope she sleeps for awhile.

another rough night

It was another horrible night. I went to bed early, but Adia must have known. She was awake 30 minutes later. I got her back to sleep with orajel, but she woke back up not long after. That time I gave her a bottle and fell asleep feeding her. When I woke up at 1:30, I put her back in her crib. She was up again at 3. I gave her teething tablets and got her back to sleep, but she was awake again at 4. I was exhausted and tried giving her Tylenol and orajel again, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I was started to lose it so Scott got up and took her to the couch. He fed her a bottle and she fell back asleep until 6:30. That's when I had to get up too. I was so tired and she wasn't happy in the jumperoo for long. She hadn't even pooped either. I changed her into cloth and then set her on the floor. She had fun playing for a little bit.

It was then time for breakfast. I took off her pjs and tried feeding her. She was more interested in grabbing and playing with the spoon than eating. She also wasn't happy with the sweet potatoes, but liked the pears more today. After cleaning her up and getting her dressed, it was back into the jumperoo. She can finally reach the dangling animals. She grabbed onto the bird and was trying to yank him completely off. She got bored with the jumperoo after she realized she couldn't get him off. I picked her up and set her on the floor. She was happily playing until she suddenly got really quiet and started rocking back and forth a little. Then I heard a couple little grunts. As soon as she finished, she went back to playing. I walked near her and she reached out for me.

She smiled through the diaper change. I wish I could say the same. I just started using liners. They're supposed to make it easier to dump the "solids" in the toilet. Wrong! Most of the poop was on the liner, but it was a nasty stick mess. There was a bunch still stuck to her. It was bad. I'm not really sure the liner made much of a difference. She was good about being cleaned up though. I think she likes the cloth wipes and solution. It smells yummy and the wipes are really soft.

I set her back on the floor so I could mess with the old diaper. She was smiling and chewing on a mixing bowl. I thought it would be a perfect time for me to take a shower. I put her in the bouncy seat with no complaints from her and took my shower. She was fine until I started getting dressed. That seems to be the point where she always breaks down. I tried feeding her a bottle because I thought she was tired, but she just played with it. Luckily Scott woke up about that same time and she was all smiles for him. She was sticking out her tongue and sucking on her upper lip. It reminds me of Tanae. It also makes me wonder if she's starting to teethe on the top too. That would be so unfair! I tried to feel for anything up there, but I don't see or feel anything. Her nose is also running like crazy and she does NOT want me anywhere near it.

After Scott's shower, we headed to the mall to pick up his copy of Halo 3. He had it pre-ordered and has been counting the days until it came out. Adia was flirting with everyone in the store. She was all smiles and big tongue. She seemed really happy which surprised me since she still hadn't taken a nap since getting up this morning.

waiting in line for Halo3

After picking up Halo 3, Scott took me out to lunch. We tried the high chair, but Adia did not want to sit still. She wanted to play, bang on the table, make faces at people, etc. She was also a hit at the restaurant. People can't help but smile at her. Scott and I traded her back and forth, but he ended up with her when she started to get cranky. He gave her a bottle and she passed out in his arms. I then got her back when it was time to pay because he couldn't get his wallet out without moving her. She didn't wake up, but snuggled even tighter. She woke up a little when I put her in the car seat, but fell right back to sleep. When we got home, I was able to take her out of her car seat, carry her upstairs and lay her down on the couch without her completely waking up. She then took a nap while Scott played Halo. I tried to play too, but at that moment Adia woke up. I managed to hold her, feed her AND play. Not a small feat.

We didn't get to play long though. It was time to take Scott to work. Adia was fine on the way there, but once again, she screamed all the way home. When I went to get her out of the car, her eyes were full of tears and her whole head was blotchy. It looked like she had a massive allergic reaction, but it was just from all the crying. It was so sad. I picked her up and took her inside. She clung to me the whole time. I made her a bottle and got her to fall asleep on the couch. She slept for almost a hour and didn't wake up too happy, but at least she wasn't screaming anymore.

She played on the floor after she woke up. She'd hang on me for a bit and then go back to playing. It was getting close to dinnertime so I left her playing to figure out what to eat. She played while I put something together. She was perfectly happy and content. When I was done, I stripped her down to a diaper and strapped her into the high chair. She immediately started grabbing the spoon. I eventually got her to eat carrots, sweet potatoes, applesauce and a little oatmeal. In the middle of a bite of carrots she sneezed. Carrots went flying everywhere, including in my face. She just looked at me like, " 'nother bite please." It took me awhile to get things cleaned up, but Adia was happy the whole time.

sneezing and carrots really don't mix

I didn't think she could get any happier, but the second she saw mirror baby she squealed. I got her bath all ready, but the second I took her diaper cover off, I knew something was up. After peeking down the back, I knew what it was. Her diaper was filled. I got her cleaned up and threw her diapers in the wash. I hadn't planned on washing them tonight, but it smelled so bad that I didn't want it hanging around until tomorrow. I finally got her in the bathtub and after getting all the carrots off her, she wanted out. She started laughing while I lotioned her and was even smiling when I put her pjs on.

she pulled the towel into her lap by herself

I made her a bottle and gave her tylenol and teething tablets. I tried the grape flavored tylenol tonight and she still gagged. She's funny with the teething tablets. She screams and tries to get away when I'm putting them in, but she starts sucking like mad once they're in. I think she likes the taste. She snuggled and drank 5oz, but was wiggling all over. She was definitely not ready to go to sleep. I gave up trying to get her to sleep and set her on the floor to play.

She started yawning so I figured she was getting tired. Nope! When I put her in my lap, she grabbed onto my shirt and pulled herself to standing. Then she sat back down and did it again. She did it over and over again, each time with a big grin. I then stuck my hands out. She held onto them, but stood without using them at all. I didn't feel any pulling. It seems that if Adia could get the whole balance thing figured out, she would be able to stand with no help. It's always seemed like she'd be the kind of baby that one day would just stand up and walk. She's still no where near crawling or even remotely interested. She sits, stands and jumps. She won't even roll or scoot across the living room.

All that pulling up must have been exhausting because she fell asleep shortly thereafter. She drank an ounce and was out. She wasn't exactly in the most ideal position for moving to the crib, but you can't have everything.

blissful sleep

Adia woke up about a hour after I laid her in her crib. She was screaming. I picked her up and rocked her, but the screaming just got louder. I rubbed some orajel into her gums, which made her mad at first, but the second it kicked in, she closed her eyes. She fell asleep almost immediately so now we know it's her teeth that are bothering her. She then slept until 1:30. At 1:30 Scott took her and gave her a bottle. She drank all 4 ounces and fell right back to sleep. She then slept until 6:30. When I went to get her, she was laying on her tummy, trying to roll over, but not having any luck. I changed her diaper and set her in the jumperoo. She was playing with the toys more than jumping.

Within minutes though, she was grunting and just seconds later she wanted out. The moment I picked her up, I could smell it. I looked at the back of her pjs, but didn't see anything. I was hoping it was all in the diaper, but it wasn't. It was all the way up her back and partially around the sides. Once again, a pamper. I'm still waiting for the rest of her nighttime cloth dipes to arrive before she wears them at night too. I put her in cloth and got ready to feed her breakfast. She had sweet potatoes, pears and oatmeal again. She enjoyed the sweet potatoes, but wasn't really interested in the pears or oatmeal today. It was then time to get her ready for our walk.

I had to super bundle her today because it was so cold out. She had on a long sleeved onesie, cotton pants that I tucked into her uggs, a sweater, hat, the hoodie on her sweater pulled up and a blanket wrapped around her legs. She didn't look happy about it, but she liked playing with her chicken and keys. They kept her busy for part of the way and then she started crying. At first I thought her mouth was bothering her, even though she had teething tablets and Tylenol before we left, but she was just tired. Once she fell asleep (maybe 5 minutes later) everything was fine. She slept all the way back and through me carrying her up the stairs. She would have slept longer, but the sound of my key going into the lock woke her. She woke up happy, but seemed to have no idea where she was. I unbundled her and her feet, hands and face were ice cold, but the rest of her was fine.

She got a quick diaper and cover change. The cover she was wearing is a size too big and way bulky. She was only wearing it because I couldn't find the smaller cloth diapers when I put it on her earlier. I did find a smaller one at this diaper change though so she went into a smaller cover. She seemed very happy about it and was all smiles while laying on the changing table.

being silly while getting changed

I threw her diapers in the dryer (I was smart to wash them while we were walking) and headed for the shower. She wasn't happy to be in the bouncy chair, but made it through me shower. She only started crying when I got out. Five ounces and a snugly blanket later, she was taking a nap on the couch while not on top of me! She woke once, but after trying to sit up, she laid back down, closed her eyes and went back to dreamland. She ended up sleeping for over two hour and a half hours! I'm really liking this regular nap thing. I hope she keeps it up. It's good for both of us. It was cute when she woke up though. Her eyes were slightly open, not really focusing on anything until I came into view. Then both eyes popped right open and she smiled. Obviously she had a long enough nap.

We did a quick diaper change and it was soaked. There were no leaks though and the cover wasn't even damp. She was all smiles while being changed, and I almost got her laughing with belly blows. We then went and saw daddy in the bathroom. He was shaving and getting ready to take a shower. She was all grins for him, showing off her new tooth. It looks like she's getting the one next to it, but not the front middle one, instead it's the one to the right of it. She enjoyed whispering to mirror baby and making faces at me. Then we headed out to the living room. She's only had a few brief seconds to play with her toys today so she was happy to see them all. She was even happier when Scott got on the ground with her to play. She was standing, only holding onto his hair or ears.

We left early to take Scott to work so we could go to the post office. Adia was fascinated by the post office. She was staring intently at the clerk. She probably liked him so much because he had a beard, just like her Gampa G. After the post office we dropped Scott off. Adia cried part of the way home before falling asleep. Once again, traffic was awful. She didn't wake up when I opened the car door so instead of risking waking her by picking her up, I took her out in the car seat. That's a full body exercise to carry that up the stairs. Once in the house, I made myself something to eat, in the hopes that Adia would sleep for awhile. She woke up about 5 minutes later and wanted to play.

She also seemed hungry so I made her a bottle. I showed her the bottle and asked if she wanted it. She grabbed it and shoved it in her mouth. She was holding it all by herself! She wasn't drinking though. She just kept smiling at me and drooling milk down her chin. I took it away and she sat up by herself. She's growing up so fast.

She definitely wanted to play so I set her down on the floor. She played with her cd player and then started chewing on a mixing bowl. Her teeth are bothering her again. I usually only give her Tylenol right before bed and when she wakes up. During the rest of the day she seems ok. She didn't last long on the floor. I scooped her up and gave her a bottle, hoping she'd sleep. She didn't, but was ready to play again when done. While she played, I washed her diaper covers, new pocket dipes and the inserts. I can't wait for the rest of it to come. Something tells me I'm going to like pocket diapers more that prefolds with covers. At least I can use them with the next baby too and any others after.

Dinnertime was interesting. Adia was crying. I thought it was because her teeth hurt, but after her first bite, she got excited. I guess she was just hungry. It sounds like she says mmm when she tastes the sweet potatoes. It's really cute. She ended up eating 1/2 jar of sweet potatoes, a tablespoon of pears and some oatmeal. As soon as she finishes the jar of pears, I think I'm going to try applesauce or squash. She was in a grabby mood during dinner and kept trying to steal the spoon. I had to sidetrack her with a different spoon, but she managed to get food all over. She had fluoride after dinner and then we headed for her bath.

When I walked into the bathroom, Adia was clinging to me. The second she saw mirror baby, I no longer existed. It was funny to see how excited she was to see mirror baby. She talked to the mirror while I got everything ready. When I set her in the tub, she grabbed two cups and started banging them together. I washed her hair and under her chin. She was all smiles. I didn't think she'd ever want out. Eventually she did and while I was dressing her, she blew a raspberry on my arm! She's never done that before. I'm not sure if it was by accident or she was copying what Scott and I do to her.

After her bath, I gave her Tylenol and teething tablets. She gagged after the Tylenol, but kept it down. She only drank an ounce before falling asleep. I hope we have a good sleeping night.

co sleeping it is

I tried laying her down 3 times last night before finally giving up. There was no way she would stay asleep without being against me. Scott took her briefly so I could brush my teeth and then into bed by 10:30 Adia and I went. She slept until 1:30. Then drank 3 ounces and was back out until 4. At 4 she only woke up long enough to wake us, but I managed to get her back to sleep. She up for the day at 6 though. I got some sleep, but not a ton. I couldn't move or shift without risking waking her. Then every time she moved, I'd wake. There's a reason we don't co sleep anymore.

After getting up at 6, Adia played in the jumperoo for a long time. I could hear her usual grunting noises and wasn't looking forward to the present in her diaper. However, there was no blowout today. In fact, it looked very much like adult human poop. It seems that pears don't upset her tummy, they may actually constipate her a bit. I put her in a cloth dipe after the change and stripped her to get ready for breakfast. The second I set her in the high chair though, she started screaming. She was grabbing her lower gums and screaming at the top of her lungs. Obviously breakfast was out and maybe even our walk. I gave her Tylenol, orajel and a bottle. She was out. Keep in mind she's still just in a diaper so I wrapped her in a soft fuzzy blanket too. She slept for over 2.5 hours. I got a 45 minute nap. She woke, crying, a few times, but went back to sleep. She woke up disoriented, but happy.

After a diaper change (she was soaked!), my friend and her husband came over for a visit. They haven't seen Adia in at least 3 months. We talked for awhile and played with Adia. Then we all headed to Toys R Us. Adia got some new clothes, a Christmas Sing Along CD, more little mermaid sippy cups and a new toy. She really seemed to be enjoying herself until she got hungry. After Toys R Us, we headed to the mall. Adia got a new shirt and ate while in the bijorn. Then Scott and I went to lunch. Adia was in a happy, silly mood. She kept sticking her tongue our and blowing bubbles at people.

She did start to have a meltdown before we were done eating though. She was getting really tired. She snuggled up on the way out to the car and fell asleep in the car seat on the way home. She didn't wake up when I got her out of the car seat either. We got in the house and I thought I might be able to lay her down in her crib. The first attempt ended in open eyes and a whimper. I picked her back up and she fell right back to sleep. She hasn't wanted to lay flat lately. I grabbed her boppy and set it in her crib. Then I laid her down and she stayed asleep. I turned on her lullaby cd just in case. My only worry was I didn't get a chance to change her diaper before her nap. She had to have been pretty wet when I laid her down. She woke up after 30 minutes, crying and confused. I changed her diaper and she was soaked. She cried through the diaper change and just when I'd fastened the clean diaper she peed, soaking it and the towel she was laying on. She then cried through the next change as well.

Once I picked her up, she was happy. I took her back to the living room and lunged for her toys. She didn't have much playtime today so she was desperate. She spent the next hour and a half playing with her toys. Scott played with her while I made dinner. Of course Adia had too poop at that moment. It's amazing how one extra serving of solids will completely change what comes out. The more adult like poop is much easier in cloth though. It's easy to dump it in the toilet and you don't have to work so hard to get it off.

Despite the poopy diaper, it was still dinner time. We got ourselves cleaned up and ate. Adia finished off her oatmeal, pears and sweet potatoes. She opened her mouth every time and didn't gag on the pears at all. She only got fussy after she finished. I cleaned her hands and face and then Scott held her. While he was holding her, I gave her some fluoride. It was the first time she had it and she fought it at first. Once she tasted it she didn't mind it. She looked really surprised to discover it wasn't cherry flavored Tylenol.

On the way to the bathroom she started crying again. Scott put her in the bebpod, but it didn't matter. She was grabbing her lower gums and saying, "mamamama." I picked her up and she quieted. I thought it would be better to give her Tylenol then than after her bath. She gagged when I gave it to her and did not look happy. She stopped crying though. She was a cutie in the bath. She sat and played with her toys. Then I laid her back to wash her hair and under her chin. When I sat her back up, she wanted out. She reached for the side of the tub to pull herself up, but she slid instead and hit her forehead. I quickly grabbed her and surprisingly she didn't cry.

We got her dried and dressed. When Scott handed her to me, she had her tongue sticking out with a giant grin on her face. It was one of those expressions that makes everything wonderful. She snuggled up, drank 3 ounces and fell asleep. I'm thinking about laying her down, but I'm also a little scared to try. I think I'll give it a few tries and if I don't succeed, she'll be co sleeping again tonight.

Last night was even worse than the night before. I honestly didn't think that was possible. After going to bed at 8, she was up at 9. I managed to rock her back to sleep, but she woke up 10 minutes later. That time rocking wouldn't work. I gave her Tylenol, teething tablets and a bottle and back out she went. For 10 more minutes. After that, it was constant screaming. She didn't want a bottle, she didn't want to be rocked. She screamed being held or left in her crib. We eventually couldn't take it anymore and tried the whole cry it out thing. Can we say disaster? She stopped crying for a few seconds once I closed the door and left the room, but then it turned into hyperventilating, hysterical, gagging crying. I was seriously losing it. I was already sleep deprived from the night before and her crying wasn't helping. Scott said he'd take her for a bit and try to get her to sleep. The second my head hit the pillow, I was out. Scott managed to get her to sleep for a little bit, but at 12:30 I woke to her blood curdling screams. This time Scott was losing it. I fixed a bottle, grabbed Adia and brought her back to bed with me. I fell asleep feeding her and she must have fallen asleep eating because when I woke at 4am, the bottle was still in her mouth. That grossed me out and made me worry about her tummy and teeth, but everything seems to be ok today. She normally finishes the bottle and drops it. This time, 3 hours later, she still had a death grip on it. I pulled hard enough and got it out of her mouth. Since it didn't wake her, and I was totally sore from sleeping in the same position for so long, that I thought I'd try to lay her in her crib. I succeeded and hoped I wouldn't hear anything until 6:30. She woke at 5:30, bright eyed and bushy tailed. It was still dark out! I tried to get her back to sleep, but it was no use.

Just like every morning, into the jumperoo she went. She started jumping like crazy and then the grunting started. I thought it was all sound because I didn't hear anything else so I let her jump a little longer. She wasn't complaining. Big mistake. When she did start to fuss and did pick her up, I could see the stain starting on the back of her pjs. "This is gonna be bad," was all I could think. Sure enough, when I opened her diaper and rolled her onto her side, I saw that there was more poop on her pjs than there was in her diaper. It was everywhere. I stripped her and cleaned her off without spreading it too much. Into cloth she went and I had a definite load for the washing machine. At least my experience with poopy cloth dipes helps me get the poop out of clothes. There had been so much poop on the pjs though that it soaked through to the towel that covered her changing pad. That got thrown into the wash too.

After that nasty diaper, I thought we'd try breakfast since she was only in a cloth diaper anyway. She ate 1/3 jar of sweet potatoes and a few bites of pear mixed with oatmeal. She gave me a funny face with the first bite, but didn't mind the next few. She managed to get sweet potatoes up her nose again. I dressed her and she played on the floor awhile before our walk. Since it was cold and drizzly this morning, she wore a lomg sleeved thermal onesie, denim overalls, uggs, her pink sweater and pink hat. She looked so cute bundled up. I'm glad she doesn't mind the hat. Our walk went really well too, despite the weather. She fell asleep within 10 minutes of leaving and slept until we got back. Her cheeks got flushed from the cold and her hands and feet were like ice. Grandma DiDi was waiting when we got back and I think Adia was surprised to see her.

before and after, she woke up before I could take a picture

I took my shower when we came back and Adia played with DiDi. Then we had to pick up some cloth dipe stuff. We transferred Adia's car seat to my mom's car and off we went. She smiled and played in the backseat. After picking up the order, we headed to Walmart to do a little shopping. I forgot to Bijorn and her cart cover so we had to carry her. 15 lbs gets heavy fast. My mom and I had to keep trading back and forth. On our way back from Walmart, Adia fell asleep. I didn't want to wake her so for only the second time, I took the car seat out of the car with her still in it. If I thought 15lbs was heavy, Adia and the car seat was much harder to carry. I got her upstairs and inside with only a couple breathers. She continued sleeping for maybe another 15 minutes, but I had to ruin her nap by taking a picture of her. Whoops. She woke up happy at least.

asleep in the living room

Adia hung out with DiDi and Scott for a little bit. She also ate some lunch while sitting on DiDi's lap. We wouldn't have done any solids, but Adia kept reaching for the slice of pear my mom was eating. She ate 1/3 jar of sweet potatoes and a few bites of pear. It was her first midday solids experience. Shortly after eating, Gamma G and Auntie Colie arrived. She was happy to see them and couldn't stop staring at Colie. She's always fascinated with her. We left for Costco shortly after. Adia loves Costco and her love of it is doubled by being in the Bijorn. She started kicking her feet and squealing in delight. I also managed to feed her a bottle while walking around, which knocked her right out. Her head was at the oddest angle because she was facing out. People kept pointing and smiling at her. Everyone always comments on how cute she is. She may be a little full of herself when she's older if people keep it up.

After Costco, my mom went home to see Tanae and we spent time with Scott's mom and sister. They made a stop at shopko while we went into Petsmart. We showed Adia the hamsters and guinea pigs, but she absolutely loved the birds and fish. I think we'll have to get a fish tank one of these days. She'd be entertained for hours by one. Scott was holding her up to the tank and she got so excited that she kicked, hitting the glass and scattering the fish. After that stop, we went to eat dinner at Olive Garden. Normally she'll sit in the high chair and happily play with her toys, but this time was different. As soon as she saw us eating, she wanted to be held and fed too. I tried holding her and eating, but soup and babies don't mix. Scott's mom took her and held her through the rest of the meal.

eating a coaster at the Olive Garden

After Olive Garden, we went to the mall. Colie and I were supposed to get pedicures, but it was getting late and they were swamped. While she primped, the rest of us went the JC Penny. Scott's mom got her a couple cute onesies and a sweater. Adia was starting to get cranky, so we said goodbye and headed home. Once home, Adia had her dinner. She ate another 1/3 of a jar of sweet potatoes. She opened her mouth big every time, but she had other opinions about the pears. She got two bites down, but on the third she gagged and I honestly thought she was going to puke. She didn't, but now likes to brandish her tiger like a mace. It makes feeding her rather interesting and dangerous.

Bath time went well. She sat for all of it and started banging cups together. She would be eating one and then grab another cup and bang it against the one she was eating. She was loving the noise she was making. I gave her Tylenol afterwards and tried to feed her, but she wouldn't settle. I gave up and let her get on the floor and play. She didn't really get all her normal playtime today. She played for at least 30 minutes by herself, but then fell over and started fussing, Scott got on the ground with her and she attacked him. She was all smiles and near giggles before acting really tired. She drank 4 ounces before falling asleep. I put her in bed at 9, but she woke back up at 9:15. When I picked her up, she let out a big burp, but then started screaming. Nighttime baby orajel, teething tablets and another ounce later, she's asleep in my lap. I'm hoping I can lay her down and she'll sleep for at least a few hours. Otherwise, I guess we're co sleeping.
