Little Sickies

We're going on week 2 of being sick and I think it's finally caught up with Daddy and me. We spent 2.5 hours with Leia in Urgent Care with no answers. Not an ear or sinus infection. She doesn't have an UTI. They eventually decided to run a bunch of blood tests. Those all came back normal as well. Luckily, by the next day, she was obviously feeling much better. I did make a follow up appointment with her pediatrician and an appointment for Mira too. Mira had a horrible cough and was having problems breathing. Her lungs are apparently fine though. She still sounds horrible, almost a week later, and Adia's joined in on the fun.

We did manage to go to Portland on Saturday after we dropped DiDi off at the airport. Adia couldn't wait to go to her cousin's birthday party. Driving up went smoothly. Mira slept most of the way and Leia was chill. Adia wouldn't stop asking if we were there yet. That drives me insane. They had a blast at the party. They gorged themselves on berries and each hit the pinata. They had fun running around with the other kids and Mira was thrilled to have her own bubbles. She actually got a hang of blowing them herself too. Leia didn't understand that you had to hold the wand away from her mouth. She just kept trying to put it to her lips.

The way home was not so much fun. We ate at The Spaghetti Factory and then started the drive back. Just out of Salem, Adia started coughing like crazy. When Adia starts coughing like that, it only means one thing, she's going to puke. And she did. And it just kept coming. She was a mess, her seat was a mess, her brand new scarf was a mess. Daddy doesn't do puke either so I had to clean everything up while he did his best to not puke himself. He wasn't completely successful either. I'm glad I always bring extra plastic bags, clothes and lots of antibacterial wipes. I don't think her carseat will ever be the same again though. Ever since Saturday night, we've been getting very little sleep. Adia's been up most of the night cough, hacking and puking. I'm losing my mind from lack of sleep and the coughing. I did get the beads out for the girls to attempt today. I had to fix Adia's favorite necklace (it broke in the car on the way to Portland) and so I had to make the twins necklaces too. I have since discovered that Leia is like DiDi and she doesn't like wearing necklaces. She thinks they're all too tight. The girls were really good with the beads. Adia made 2 necklaces. One of them is for me and it says MOM. I think it weighs like 5lbs though so I won't be able to wear it for very long. Mira and Leia also made necklaces, but thought they were supposed to put the beads away. Oh well. It was an activity that kept Leia's attention for a prolonged period of the time. That's incredibly rare.

I also bribed the girls to get a good picture of the three of them together. Leia refused to be tricked, but Daddy finally convinced her.

Then we headed to the mall. The girls were going stir crazy and it was too cold and wet to head to the park. They didn't play long since the place was mobbed. We tried out Subway and their new gluten free sandwiches. Adia ate half of hers and so did Leia, but Mira wasn't interested. It's very rare to not have Mira eat so she must be feeling icky. We did get frozen yogurt afterward and Mira didn't eat all of hers either.

And a quick ride because Mommy just happened to have enough quarters.

Adia also spent her birthday gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. She's now the very proud owner of a Berenstain Bears Easter flap book and a pink sock monkey. Leia had an absolute melt down inside the bookstore. Daddy had to take her out to the car while Mira, Adia and I paid for the books. She hasn't had a freak out like that in a very very long time.

SNOW?!

Yep, more snow, but lots more snow. I'm guessing we woke up to about 4in worth and then 1-2 more inches fell this morning. Leia's still sick, as is Mira and Adia, but we couldn't miss playing in the snow. We bundled up and headed out, but of course it started raining just seconds after we got outside. They still had fun and we're supposed to get more snow tonight!

I discovered that I'm really really bad at making snowmen, but it didn't help that I wasn't wearing gloves. I am a little rusty. It's been quite a few years since we've had enough snow to do much with. After freezing, we came in for hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies.

And DiDi had to miss school today because she couldn't get there, but we can't even go visit her! There's no way I'm driving if I don't have to. I originally planned to take Leia to the doctor today, but she seems to be doing a big better and I don't even think they're open. Adia did have a fever last night and Mira continues to have a horrible cough and runny nose.

Valentine's Day and Adia's Birthday

Daddy had Valentine's day off so we took the girls on an outing. We went out to breakfast and then to the mall for playtime, frozen yogurt, Build-a-Bear and books. They didn't let me get very many pictures, but I know they had a blast. Adia made a purple bear and Mira made a koala. I had to persuade Leia to make a critter. She eventually chose Brittany from Alvin and the Chipmunks. She doesn't like Build A Bear because of all the loud noises. She panics when it's time to stuff the bear and started crying when Adia turned on the air to "bathe" the bear. The did enjoy the frozen yogurt though.

We had one really nice day and we made it to the park. The girls loved it. Daddy and I froze, but that's not what matters, right?

Adia attempted pushing Mira on the swing. It was hilarious. Every time she'd push her, Mira would giggle like crazy. I took a video, but I'm not sure it will upload.

And leap days are always supposed to be magical. This year was no exception. We woke up to snow! The girls were so excited. It was really slushy snow though and Adia was determined to have a snowball fight. It didn't end well for anyone involved. Those snowballs were more ice than anything. Ouch.

It took some time before we warmed up.

Adia had a terrific 5th birthday party. She wanted a pink and purple party so we made it a Pink and Purple Princess Party. I traced her and made a princess so they could play pin the crown on the princess. It was pretty hilarious to watch. They also had foam crowns to decorate and a pinata to attack. We lucked out and had awesome weather. All the kids cold play outside and run their energy off. Adia requested a pink and purple cake too so I did one layer pink and one purple. It was awesome and delicious. We also had mini chocolate cupcakes with pink and purple swirled frosting. Adia said it was her best birthday ever and I'd have to agree with her. It was so much better having it at home.

On her actual birthday, it snowed again! It's not everyday in Oregon when you get birthday snow. I let them go out in their pjs since it was her birthday.

DiDi called from school and a few of her students sang happy birthday. Adia makes that face every time someone sings her Happy Birthday. It's pretty comical since she normally wants to be the center of attention.

P1290458 (600x800)

Then we had birthday cinnamon rolls (her request!). Next time I'll make them much smaller. They turned out huge.

P1290483

Then we headed to see The Lorax. It was the first time the twins have ever gone to the movie (unless you count Harry Potter when they were 10 days old). I brought extra cups with lids so the twins could have icees too and some closing containers for M&Ms. I was worried about how Leia would react. She doesn't do loud sounds or the dark. She did panic as we were walking into the theater, but once I held her hand and it got a little bit lighter in the theater, she calmed. She squealed when she realized the screen was like a giant tv. They absolutely loved it. I was so shocked at how well they all did. They sat through almost the entire movie, eating their popcorn and drinking their drinks. During the last 10-15min, we did end up playing musical seats though. I ended up with Leia in my lap and Daddy had Mira.

After the movie, we went to Red Robin for Adia's birthday meal. They were surprisingly good there too, but were starting to get tired. Leia even fell out of her chair. My children CANNOT sit in chairs, I swear. They're always moving and end up sliding right out of them. Once again, Adia made the face when they sang her happy birthday.

P1290490 (600x800)

Last, but not least, we attempted the bookstore. We should have known it was too much, but I had a birthday coupon for Adia. She lost it. Epic meltdown. Yep. And it was too much for Mira. She crashed hard on the way home.

P1290495 (600x800)

She at least ended the day on a positive note.

P1290497 (600x800)

And one of her new favorite outfits, given to her for her birthday. She actually wore it to Kindergarten orientation and registration. I'm sure from now until September, I'll hear "Do I go to Kindergarten yet?" on a regular basis. She's so excited for it.
