Cookies

We've been doing a lot of baking lately and trying to work out some gluten free items like pies and sugar cookies that I haven't had any success with in the past. The last two days we made two different kinds of gingerbread cookies. Adia insisted on smelling and trying each ingredient as I put it in. She'd say it was nasty and when everything was all mixed, she tried it dough and said, "That's actually good, Mommy." She's a fan of gingerbread.




Yesterday we also got a big surprise in the mail. My friend sent us a package that included some onesies for the twins and a hot pink tutu for Adia. She was so excited. Her eyes lit up when I pulled it out of the box. She immediately wanted to wear it and began dancing around the living room. We went to the mall later and she refused to take it off.




Adia spent the night with DiDi last night. I think it was the first time in years that I had the bed completely to myself. Even better, the twins slept 10-6!




Today Adia and I made sugar cookies. I had to totally change the recipe to get the taste and texture right. I was shocked when it ended up turning out exactly like I wanted. It's normally really hard to roll out gluten free doughs, but this was the perfect consistency. Adia flaked out before we got to the cookie cutting part (mostly because I had to keep changing things) so I ended up rolling and cutting them all myself. After baking, we let them cool and then I had to convince her to help me frost them. She's never done anything like that before so she didn't know what I was asking. We ended up with purple and green pumpkins because those were the only colors of food coloring I had. Adia had a blast frosting them, but I think she ate more frosting than she used.

Pumpkin Patch

We went to the pumpkin patch on Sunday. Adia was super excited because she got to see everyone AND get a pumpkin. We had a rough time getting out of the house. Adia spent the night with DiDi for the second night in a row. Then she just wanted to play, but we finally convinced her we were going somewhere fun and Colie was coming with us. When we pulled into the farm, Adia said, "A farm? I want pizza first."

Papa was waiting with a giant apple, nearly as big as her head because Adia can't have the apple cider donuts.


I wore Leia and DiDi had Mira. We figured it would be good to have free hands when we went to grab the pumpkins. Adia was being less than cooperative when it came to pictures, but she did enjoy the animals and taking pictures with Papa. She's becoming out budding photographer.








We rode a very full wagon out to the patch. Adia loved watching the horses. Then it was off to find a pumpkin. Adia was determined to find a small enough pumpkin that she could lift. We kept showing her little pumpkins, but none of them were small enough for her. We looked and looked, and she tripped and fell multiple times, and Adia ended up getting 3 little pumpkins. I picked a small pumpkin too and Daddy just carried out pumpkins.








One of the pumpkins that she picked was dirty so she demanded Papa fix it. He scraped off some of the dirt and the thorns on the stem.


Then it was time to wait for the wagon to return. Adia patiently waited on a pumpkin.




Adia sat on Papa's lap on the way back. She watched horses and ate some more of her apple.


I really wanted to get a family picture, but Adia was anything but cooperative.








I gave up on family pics and we decided to grab some produce instead. Adia helped me pick apples. I now have more apples than I think I'll ever be able to use. I've already made 2 apple pies and 2 batches of crockpot applesauce. Apple crisp is next. All gluten free of course. While DiDi and Daddy waited in line to pay for all our apples, I took the twins for some pics.

And if I needed any proof that the twins have been growing much much faster than Adia did, I can just compare pumpkin patch pictures from Adia's first trip. She was wearing the same size onesie but she was 4 months older!


After we finished, we headed for gluten free pizza. Adia was starving. She ate quite a bit of her pizza and then wanted to play. Eck and Daddy played with her in the play area. She's never had anyone to climb in all the tubes and slides with her.




Adia never wanted to go home, but she gave herself a nosebleed.

I made apple pie the last two nights and today we made gingerbread cookies. She's been asking for them for weeks now. She wanted to try each ingredient as it went in, telling me they all were nasty. When she had the final batter she exclaimed, "Wow mommy, it's actually good!" She liked the cookies too.




She went to bed easily tonight. Daddy and I played with the twins and Leia was soon tired. Mira's still awake and DiDi's trying to get her to sleep. Once Mira's asleep, she's usually good for the night, but it's so hard to get her to sleep.

Raspberry Blower

Mira can blow raspberries now! And of course Adia's yelling in the background.

sickies

I'm sick, Adia has a cough and the twins haven't been acting like themselves either. Daddy's sick too. We just can't seem to get healthy. Hopefully we can kick this soon, but with a lack of sleep, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

DiDi, Adia, the twins and I made a Costco trip on Saturday. Adia loves to check out their toys and hopefully find some gluten free samples. Leia fell asleep and Mira checked everything out.


I bought Adia some gluten free hamburger buns so when we went to Red Robin with Gramma, she got to try one out. She was super excited, but then didn't end up eating much. She did play the scoop game afterward and got some new vampire teeth.




After a rough day with the girls, Adia and I made brownies. She only hangs around to dump in ingredients and eat the batter. I don't blame her, the batter is the best part.


We finally got some more rain and Adia was eager to puddle jump. We had perfect timing because it wasn't raining when we went outside, but there were plenty of puddles. She had a blast, soaking her pants up passed her knees and getting mud all over her shirt and hands. She collected some leaves (which are now bring pressed in a book for a later craft project) and made a boat out of bark.












Adia's been having sleeping issues lately. She'll start off the night in her bed (on occasion), but between 10 and 11, I hear, "Mommy?" There she is, kneeling on her bed, waiting for me. I pick her up and she whispers, "I sleep in your bed mommy." So that's where I set her. She immediately falls back to sleep and usually stays asleep all night. What's been killing me though is her 6am wake ups. It's way too early for her and much too early for me too.

3 months

We took the girls to get portraits taken yesterday and they turned out really well, until Mira decided she was tired and had enough. She started crying and the second Daddy picked her up, she was out. Leia fell asleep in the car, but Adia was a live wire. I wish we could have gotten a better picture of all three together.














The twins turned 3 months today. I can't believe how quickly time is flying. Mira is now 12 lbs 11oz and Leia is 11 lbs 14oz. Mira's already the same weight Adia was at 4 months, but she's definitely shorter. I have a feeling that Leia's still longer than Adia at the same age. I took their pictures with Adia today, even though she wasn't very cooperative.












I gave them some floor time today, including tummy time for both. They both enjoyed it for a long time. I'm amazed at how Leia can get her head off the ground and nearly roll over. She's going to crawl early, I'm sure. Mira was content with just laying on her tummy and eating her hand.






The more pictures I take of Mira, the more I think she looks like Adia. It's the stunning blue eyes and chubby cheeks. Her hair's also getting lighter and reddish.

Adia had some fun with the camera this afternoon too. I'm definitely buying her a kid's digital camera for Christmas.

Tonight I had all three girls on my own for bedtime. That was insane. I gave the twins baths, hoping it would calm them down enough to let them sleep, but Mira and Leia wouldn't lay in the pack n play without screaming. I eventually put Leia in the swing and brought Mira with me to read to Adia. That didn't work. Adia ended up falling asleep with her head in my lap on the couch and Mira fell asleep eating. Now everyone's asleep, but I doubt it will last.
