Almost Wordless Wednesday

I promise, we haven't fallen off the face of the Earth, but life has been even busier than normal. I'm back in class. Adia's going to preschool. The twins spend the mornings with Gramma and Papa. We're buying a house, which means packing and moving. Daddy got promoted. Yeah, I never do one thing at a time, that would be much too easy.

1st Day of Preschool

Adia's first day of preschool was today. She couldn't wait to get out of the house. Last night she told me she wanted to wear something pretty and purple so I gave her 2 choices, she picked this one. I think her entire wardrobe is mostly purple.

She was more than ready to be at school. She walked into her classroom, her teachers gave her her name tag and she immediately sat down. I said goodbye, gave her a kiss and she waved me away. Little Miss Independent, which is exactly how I wanted her to be.

When I came back to pick her up, I peeked in the window to see how she was doing. she was helping clean up. She pushed in all the chairs, but when she saw that the teacher was stacking them, she brought the chairs to her instead. They then had to sit in a circle (criss cross applesauce!) when the parents came in.

Adia smiled and gave me a big hug. She told me they drew pictures, colored caterpillars, ran in the soccer field and that she used the potty twice. She got on the BIG potty and stood on the stool to wash her hands, but her teacher had to help her reach the soap. She can't wait to go back on Wednesday.

We ran a couple errands before coming home. Mira was passed out on the living room floor and Leia was wandering around, visibly tired. Leia wouldn't let me hold her so she ended up crying herself to sleep in the bedroom while I moved Mira to her room. Adia's now vegging. She ate lunch too. Little did she know she had a sunbutter sandwich for a snack. She still thinks it was peanut butter.

OMSI

We drove to Portland yesterday so we could take Adia to OMSI. We've never taken her before and thought she might enjoy the planetarium. She stayed awake the whole way there and the twins arrived happy and rested. And hungry.

After the restrooms, our first stop was the astronaut. Adia actually let me take some pictures. She was so funny.

Adia loved the T-rex and playing in the water to make rivers, dams and lakes. She became fascinated with the infared camera and didn't want to leave. It was soon time for the planetarium show. Adia went with Daddy while I watched the twins. I fed them some lunch and walked them around. During that time, Mira reached over, grabbed Leia's hand and bit down.

Adia absolutely LOVED the planetarium. She said it was loud and Daddy said she spent the show with her hands over her ears, but she also understood what was happening. She asked him questions about the things she saw too. We definitely want to take her to the one in town now.

We headed to the turbine room after. Adia didn't want to leave the black hole table. It was a lot of fun, but then she saw the rockets. We took turns using water and air pressure to blast the bottles to the ceiling. The twins liked watching that too, but it was the earthquake simulator that they really loved. Adia didn't want to get out of it and the twins kept smiling and squealing.

The girls all had the most fun at the shipping crate simulator. Mira and Adia helped load the crane while Daddy moved it. Then I would help unload while Leia did some more crane work. They were giggling, laughing and having a blast. None of them wanted to leave even though we were all getting tired.

We met up with Gramma, Papa, Eck, Great Gramma, Great Uncle David, Great Uncle Dave and Great Aunt Cindy. Adia acted shy, but I knew she was happy to see everyone. The twins were starving so we went to the Spaghetti Factory. Big mistake. The twins lost it. Adia was awesome though. She ate her food, stayed in her seat, played games with Eck and Daddy. The twins were terrors though. Mira insisted feeding herself applesauce while sitting in Daddy's lap. That resulted in Daddy being bathed in applesauce. Then it was spaghetti time. Once again, a disaster. Leia started handing me handfuls. She did eat some though. Mira attempted to eat her's with a spoon and fork, but ended up with a spoon in one hand and spaghetti in the other. Adia used a fork almost the entire time though! I was so proud of her. She did wonderfully.

We were all exhausted by the time dinner was over. We changed the girls in the parking lot and they were all asleep within 15 minutes. I just wish the twins would have stayed asleep. They woke up during the transfer when we got home and wouldn't go back to sleep. I ended up waking up on the couch with Mira around 12:30a. I finally was able to lay her down, but then I had problems going back to sleep. Adia climbing into bed with us around 3 and then Mira was up for the day at 6:30a. It was one rough night for sure.

Hard Day

I completely agree with Adia when she told me, "Mommy, today was a hard day" as we were driving home from Gramma and Papa's house. It was probably the hardest day Adia's ever had. Not because she was sleep deprived or cranky or spent a ton of time in timeout because she didn't, but because Adia lost her very first pet. It's hard enough to lose a beloved pet when you're 10, 15, 25, but at only 3 years old it's even worse. It's especially hard being the Mommy that has to explain to her 3 year old that her precious PigPig has died.

PigPig only came home on Thursday. She'd spent the summer away so she wouldn't get too hot and we needed someone to take care of her when we were in California. She looked smaller when we got her back, but she squeaked and seemed very happy to see Adia. We held her. We snuggled her. The twins snuggled her too. But then yesterday I noticed she had a cold and wasn't eating at all. She also hadn't touched her water. I knew that wasn't a good sign. DiDi agreed, but there wasn't anything we could do. I warned Adia that PigPig was sick and sometimes piggies don't get better, but I know she didn't really understand. I know PigPig was alive when I went to bed last night. I think she waited for me to go to bed first.

We were up early this morning. Adia said she was hungry, but when I headed to the kitchen, PigPig didn't greet me. At first I thought she was sleeping. When I touched her and she didn't move, it was pretty obvious. I told Adia that PigPig was dead and of course she didn't quite understand. I called Daddy to tell him, but while I was on the phone, Adia went over and tried to pet PigPig. That was the moment when I think she understood. She immediately started crying. I was holding it together until that point, but seeing her cry was too much. I burst into tears too. Daddy came home, placed PigPig in one of Adia's little shoe boxes and set her outside.

I couldn't bear to let PigPig sit on the porch so we drove to Gramma and Papa's house to bury her. Adia insisted on carrying the box. She picked the place, Gramma dug the hole. They said goodbye to PigPig and Adia chose 2 rocks to make the spot. She chose a spot next to the house and beside a rosebush. PigPig would be happy.

Adia is doing okay with it. She periodically says she misses PigPig. She wants to get another guinea pig. Another brown one and she wants to name it PigPig. I'm sure we will get another one someday, but not until we have our own house.

When we got home tonight, Adia was asleep. DiDi got rid of PigPig's cage, bedding, food and hay. I hope that will make it a little easier on Adia in the morning.

Happier Days

Saturday, September 4, 2010

We had another crazy couple days on the coast at Gramma and Papa. I left the girls with Gramma and Papa on Friday while I helped DiDi at school. When we got back to Gramma and Papa's house, Adia was barely awake, but the twins were out cold. Leia had a rough night though. Adia was running a fever and feeling pretty bad and Leia seems to have it too. She woke up around 12:30a and screamed off and on until 7:30a. It was horrible. She woke both her sisters several times too. Adia was feeling so awful that she didn't even get up to help Papa make breakfast.

We did try to go for a walk later, but we had forgotten to bring any strollers. Papa cleaned out the wheelbarrow and we attempted a walk with the girls in it. That didn't go so well. Adia loved it, but the twins weren't so sure about it. They were both pretty cranky and tired too.

The girls had lunch and then the twins started to fall asleep eating. I got Leia to sleep and Gramma knocked Mira out. Mira ended up sleeping 3.5 hours! Leia woke up way too soon and was in a horrible mood. Wee Sing didn't even cheer her up. Adia enjoyed a few minutes of quiet time too.

Mira woke up just in time for dinner. She devoured a chicken breast, 1/2 cup of green beans and a bunch of rice. She then ate some cheetos too. She's like a bottomless pit. Leia wasn't hungry though. You could tell she was feeling pretty awful. She was hot to the touch, her eyes were red and puffy and her nose was running like crazy. Papa and I gave the girls baths and they set about terrorizing the living room until DiDi came back from school. Mira once again decided she was hungry. She wanted an orange. Papa peeled it for her after she tried to take a bite out of it. She then tried eating it like an apple. Adia also shared an apple with her. While the twins were being crazy, Adia also did a few more craft projects with Gramma. She made some very cool "signs" with names and sparkly stars, bugs and dolphins on them. They're very awesome.

Leia was exhausted. DiDi rocked her for a second and she was out. The girls were all asleep within minutes of getting in the car. I hope Leia feels better in the morning. Adia's already feeling better.
