3 Year Portraits

Today Gramma visited. We took Adia to get her 3 year portraits done. It was an awful experience. Adia used to always be so wonderful. She even was when we went in October, but she was horrible today. She wouldn’t stand still. She kept jumping or moving. She wouldn’t smile. She was just completely uncooperative. Luckily, we managed to get a couple ok ones, but nothing like the wonderful ones from last year or the year before.

The best pictures were the ones laying down because I tickled her legs. That made her laugh so she looked like the Adia I know and love, not the little demon that made her appearance instead.

It’s a Beautiful Day

We were lucky and had some wonderful weather this weekend. Adia got to play outside and we went for a few walks. The twins enjoyed the sunshine too.

Adia even attempted riding her tricycle. She hasn’t been on it for quite a few months and we didn’t even know if she’d be tall enough. In fact, she’s grown so much that Daddy had to move the seat back! Adia even pedaled by herself. We were all so proud of her. Now we just need to work on steering. She has enough problems looking in front of her when she runs or walks.

Adia helped me make dinner on Saturday night. She was my official cheese sprinkler. She did a wonderful job and I almost got her to eat the finished product.

Adia surprised me on Monday by drawing a wonderful picture on the shower wall. She has bath crayons so she’s ok to draw on them, but she normally just scribbles. This time I actually had to ask Daddy if he helped her. He hadn’t helped her so we were both shocked.

After getting out of the bath, it was time to head to my dentist appointment. Adia had to come with me since her first real dentist appointment was right after mine. She insisted on taking pictures with her sisters first though.

Adia was wonderful during my cleaning. She sat and colored. She asked some questions and the hygienist gave her floss. It was soon time to head to her appointment. We were surprisingly early, but Adia was doing well. She panicked when we got in the back though. They let her look around and get used to the environment, but it wasn’t enough. When the dentist went to look in her mouth, she clamped shut. Nothing we did would make her open up. He told me not to worry about it and that we’d try again in a couple weeks.

We went home, picked up Daddy and the twins and headed to Red Robin. Mira sat in a high chair for the first time. She quickly fell asleep! I remember Adia doing the same thing at around the same age too. It was too funny.

After Red Robin, we headed to the mall. Adia really wanted to play so we let her. The place was pretty deserted so we let Adia take her sisters down the slide too. Both twins loved it. Adia was super excited too. She wanted to keep doing it, over and over again.

We walked around for a bit before going home. Adia got a caramel apple, which she enjoyed when we got home. She ate the apple along with the caramel and M&Ms. She used to always just eat the candy parts off.

New Car Seats

The twins definitely like their new car seats. They don’t feel as squished and are much easier to get in and out. There was also no screaming involved when I buckled them in. The only real problem, no sunshades. I think that will definitely be a problem this spring and summer. We have shades on the window, but it only works so well. Adia liked seeing her sisters in their seats too and Adia’s enjoying her seat as well.

The girls all got their first H1N1 vaccines today. I tried to get Adia one yesterday. I made an appointment through her pediatrician’s office, but when we got there and had waited 15 minutes, they told us they didn’t have her dosage and would have to call the public health department instead. Gee, thanks. What a waste of time. So today we went to the free clinic at the mall. Adia went first, then Leia and Mira. Adia only cried for a couple seconds. She did really well. She was then the big brave sister when the twins went. She gave Leia a kiss and then Mira and they stopped crying. I’m still shocked that Adia chose a shot over the nasal spray.

We then returned library books and went to the store. When we got home, we still didn’t have water so we went for a walk. Adia enjoyed throwing rocks in a puddle.

Leia now has both her bottom teeth. She’s catching up with Mira. Mira is so close to crawling. She can wiggle all around the living room now. Today she grabbed the cord on Adia’s laptop mouse and tried to pull it down on her head. Then she wiggled across the room and tried and to bite my laptop cord. We’re going to be in big trouble when she really IS crawling or pulling to a stand.

7 months and Valentine’s Day

I can’t believe the twins are already 7 months old! Leia just got her first teeth the day before Valentine’s day. Mira’s almost crawling (she can go backwards) and if they’d only sleep through the night. Between horrible congestion and teething, I swear they never sleep.

Daddy and I decided we’d like to have a date with Adia for Valentine’s day. Adia was super excited when we asked her about it. She spent the night before at DiDi’s house. That morning I went to the store and bought her a big bouquet and some balloons. We then went to DiDi’s to give them to her. Adia’s face lit up. She loves balloons and flowers. I told Daddy that I don’t need flowers, but Adia most certainly does. Just seeing her face light up makes me feel so wonderful.

Adia wanted to eat lunch at Red Robin. She was wonderful. She even snuggled up against me and said, “Mommy, I love going on a date with you.” I absolutely adore her. I miss having me sweet Adia all the time, but at least she reappears when it’s just us (and Daddy). After Red Robin, she asked to go to the mall. She played for quite a while, but begged to see a movie. We wanted to take her, but there weren’t any kid’s movies playing. We did promise to take her next month though when How to Train Your Dragon comes out. I can’t wait to see that. Adia did get some new shoes though. She now has a pair of tennis shoes with Dora on them and a pair of sneakers with Buzz Lightyear.

We had ice cream before going back home. She was getting tired and actually asked to go home to DiDi and her sisters. Daddy was tired too so he went to bed, but DiDi, the girls and I went to Costco. The twins rode in the cart together. Mira loved it, but in typical Leia fashion, she wasn’t so sure about the whole thing.

Adia told me she had a wonderful day and I was so glad. I went home and made dinner: steaks, tater tots, cauliflower and salad. We had chocolate cake with strawberries for dessert. Adia didn’t eat much, but all the girls went to bed pretty early. Too bad they didn’t stay asleep. Mira woke up around 11 and was screaming. Daddy took her, but she didn’t sleep well all night long. Leia woke up screaming around 1. I grabbed a bottle and brought her back to bed with me, hoping I could get her calmed down and asleep quickly. Wrong! I had just gotten her calm and Adia started coughing. I had a feeling she was going to puke. I offered her water, but she was still too asleep. She coughed more and more and then blech. She puked all over the bed, herself and the pillow. Can we say that chocolate cake is not fun to clean up the second time around? I had to set Leia down to carry Adia to the bathroom, which made Leia started screaming again. Adia was crying at that point too. I cleaned her up and she helped me change the sheets (thank you DiDi for teaching her such a valuable skill). I was holding Leia at the time. Adia went right back to sleep, thankfully, but Leia took some effort.

I didn’t sleep well the rest of the night because I kept waiting for Adia to start coughing again or pee the bed. We were up at 7 and Daddy had a dentist appointment at 8:20. Just as he was leaving the house, Adia decided he couldn’t leave without her. She ended up going in her pjs, but was a perfect angel. She sat in the corner and drew me a picture while Daddy got a cavity filled. They were all amazed at how good she was. DiDi had her teeth cleaned a few hours later and they were still talking about how good Adia was.

After Daddy’s appointment, I took Adia to the eye doctor. The eye doctor was impressed with how much of a difference her glasses are making. We also got them tightened and adjusted. Adia doesn’t have to go back until June when she’ll get another annual exam. I also scheduled the twins for their first eye exams next month. That’s going to be interesting.

After coming back from the eye doctor, the new car seats arrived. Daddy supervised the girls while I took out the old infant seats and installed the new seats. I also cleaned out all the stuff that was in the van. I’m still shocked at the sheer amount of stuff that’s been in there. I’ll have to take pictures of the girls in their new seats tomorrow. Adia’s now in a Britax Frontier and the twins are in Britax Marathons, rear-facing of course. I was amazed at how well the marathons fit next to each other. We were a little worried that they’d be too wide.

Build a Bunny?

We took Adia to Build A Bear today. She loves that place. She picked a bunny who she named Papa. She originally said she was making a Papa Bear, but bunny it was. She's sleeping with both Berry and Papa tonight.

All the girls have bad colds. Mira and Leia seem to have it the worst. Leia has snot running down her face all the time and Mira can't sleep because she can't lay flat. It's rough.

Adia let them play with one of her toys yesterday. Mira loved it, but Leia hit herself in the mouth with it. It's pretty normal to have a happy Mira and a crying Leia.

Sunny Days

The kids have been keeping me super busy lately. I didn't even get to write about their 6mo appointment. They went to the doctor's on the 28th. Mira is now 16lbs1oz and supposedly 25.9in. Leia is 15lbs7oz and 25.8in. There is no way Mira is longer than Leia. Leia is now on zantac too and it seems to be helping her. She still does the banshee scream that makes your ears bleed though.

The twins went swimming last week. They liked it better this time. Adia had fun playing with Papa and Daddy. She took off into the wave pool with an inner tube on her own even.

Mira's bottom teeth are really showing now and they are sharp! I think we've all been bitten by her. She's still drooling like crazy and I'm waiting for some top teeth to pop through. Leia still doesn't have any teeth, even though she's chewing on everything that gets in arm's reach. She's not really drooling though, but both twins are congested right now. Leia keeps having snot running down her face. I do love how Mira grins and giggles every time I pull out the camera or cell phone. She knows what you're supposed to do for a picture. Leia usually just looks worried, even if she was just being silly. Adia, well, Adia runs off, hides or sticks out her tongue. It's so difficult to get her picture.

We had a gorgeous day here yesterday. It was in the low 60s, hardly a cloud in the sky. It was wonderful. I took Adia and the twins outside for a walk and Adia tried out her scooter. She hasn't been able to use it, except once, since she got it for Christmas. She didn't last long on it before she claimed she was tired. We then went for a pretty long walk where I ended up carrying her home. Mommy was exhausted when we got back. I'm glad she's small for her age, but she still gets heavy.

Adia spent last night with DiDi and she's there again tonight. Both times she's fallen asleep here and had to be transferred. She just gets really tired between 8 and 9 every night. The twins have been going to bed around then too. Last night Leia slept until 6:45a, but Mira woke up every few hours. Her diapers keep leaking and she wakes up soaking wet. It's awful and she doesn't like it either. I'm going to have to move her up a size in nighttime diapers even though the 3s still fit Leia with room to grow.

The twins are both sitting up well now. Mira can sit up longer and falls less than Leia still, but she rarely stays upright. She prefers to get up on all fours and rock back and forth. I think she'll be crawling in the next couple weeks. Right now she gets from place to place by rolling. She's pretty good at it. We've had to keep reminding Adia to keep her toys off the floor because Mira can get them. Just yesterday Mira tried to steal some food from Adia.

Adia's birthday stuff came in the mail yesterday, that's why she's wearing the Care Bear mask. Just 1 month and Adia will be 3! I can't believe how fast she's grown.
