We've just been hanging around the house the last couple days because of the snow. We did venture out yesterday to go to the store. Adia was silly, as usual and loves playing peek-a-boo in the car.

At dinner, we discovered that Adia really likes to eat snow. Scott put a large snowball on her tray and she had a blast. At first she just moved it around the tray. Then she started breaking it into pieces. She soon got the hint, from Scott, that it was edible. She went nuts. It's her new favorite treat. Her hands were like ice when she got in the bath through and she was thoroughly soaked.

She's been an excellent eater the last few days. Last night she ate a slice of bread, a whole yogurt, 3/4 of a container of apple sweet potato and 1 oz of cheese. She also guzzled water. This morning she ate more cheese, an eggo and 1/3 jar of strawberry banana. Dinner tonight was more bread, yogurt and apple sweet potatoes. If only we could get her to stop spitting up so much. The more solids she eats, the more she spits up and the less bottles she'll drink.

Adia's also been incredibly cranky. Last night she was chewing on her finger and crying. Scott suggested that she maybe getting a new tooth on the bottom. He was right. Her lower, right lateral incisor has broken through the gum. When I stuck my finger in to check, I got bit, hard. I was surprised I wasn't bleeding. After some Tylenol and Orajel, she calmed down and was able to drink and bottle and sleep. The second I laid her in her crib though, I ended up with a screaming banshee. It was not a good night.

She seems very close to walking. Over the last couple days she started standing unassisted more and more. Earlier she was standing by the entertainment center and kept letting go. She seemed very proud of herself and no so scared of falling. If she did start to lose her balance, she'd touch the side of the entertainment center or sit down. Maybe she'll surprise us by walking this weekend.

ready for a walk

We're headed to the coast tomorrow. Scott took his 3 bereavement days for Opa's memorial service and an extra day in comp. He wants to spend as much time with his family as he can.

Adia's Snow Day

We had a few unexpected things happen the last couple days. On Thursday, DiDi sent me a text saying she was in the ER and might have had a heart attack. Of course that nearly gave me one and within 30 minutes, we were headed back to the coast. The roads were covered in ice and treacherous. The normal 1 - 1 1/2 drive took over 2 hours. Adia slept most of the way and when we arrived at the hospital, she was happy to see Gamma and Gampa G. I spent time with DiDi who had since found out that it probably wasn't a heart attack, but they weren't sure what it was. Around 9 we went back to DiDi's house. Adia was very confused to be at DiDi's house without DiDi. She looked everywhere for her. It was nearly impossible to get her to sleep, but she finally passed out around 11. DiDi was released and got home a little after midnight.

On Friday Scott had to drive back home because he had to work. Adia cried when he left, but was happy to have DiDi back. DiDi had a doctor's appointment and Adia took a 2 1/2 hour nap! It was amazing. After DiDi's doctor appointment, we had dinner with Gamma and Gampa G. Adia was happy to see them again and was thoroughly worn out after playing for 2 hours. She even got to play with the cat. When started to act tired, DiDi brought us back to her house. She gave Adia a bath and after drinking 6oz, Adia passed out. When she woke up in the early hours of the morning, DiDi took her.

Saturday was a fun day too. We got to see Tanae briefly before Gamma G drove Adia and me back home. We spent the day out and about. Gamma cut off most of her hair, enough to send to locks of love and we ate lunch together. We also went to Costco, which Adia slept through, and the mall. Gamma bought Adia the 12 month snowsuit, a cute sweater, shirt and a fun pair of jeans. They're all 12 months so it will be some time before they fit. Then Gamma dropped us off before going back to the coast. I fed Adia AND gave her a bath without incidence. The second she stood up, I took her out. She played for a couple hours before falling asleep. I just wish she would have stayed asleep.

Last night was not a good sleeping night at all, but we woke up to SNOW! I walked out into the kitchen to rinse her 3am bottle and looked out on the porch. There was white everywhere. There was maybe 1/2 inch then, but now, 3 hours later, there's 3 inches. It shows no signs of stopping either. We bundled Adia up and headed outside. She liked the show on her face and eyelashes. I set her down and let her crawl around. She wasn't so sure about that. She didn't last long before going back in. She did enjoy eating it too.

Now we've had breakfast and she's getting ready for a nap. I hope it's a long one. Mommy needs some downtime.

We went for our walk. Adia complained when I put her in the snowsuit, but once she was in the stroller she didn't mind as much. She wasn't so sure about the gloves. Every time I looked down and saw the little furry, pink ears, I'd start laughing. She fell asleep halfway back and I got her up the stairs and into the house asleep. I was foolish and tried to take her snowsuit off so she would overheat. That woke her up. Her hands, head, face and body were toasty, but her legs and feet were freezing. Don't know what I'm going to do about that.

Adia's had an exciting couple of days. On Monday, we played outside for a little bit. It's hard to get much time outside since it's been wet or freezing. It was wet on Monday and I thoroughly soaked the knees on my pants trying to get pictures of Adia. Adia had fun though. She really liked touching the trees, running her fingers through the grass and mushing mud. She's certainly an outdoors girl. I often wonder what she's going to be when she grows up. A marine biologist? She loves water and fish. An arborist? She's fascinated with all things trees. A dentist? She can't keep her hands out of Scott's mouth. A musician? She loves all kinds of music. A comedian? She really does have perfect comedic timing. She's shockingly perfect when it comes to laughing at just the right moment. Only time will tell, but she's certainly showing her interest in the world around her.

On Tuesday, Scott, Adia and I went for a walk. It was freezing outside, literally. There was actual ice on the ponds near our house. Adia kept trying to take her hat off and her hands felt like ice, so I had to put her mittens on. She was NOT happy. Eventually she dozed off and slept through part of the mall. We stopped at The Children's Place. I love their clothes and they were having an awesome sale. Since I still want to be able to walk while it's freezing outside, we bought Adia a snowsuit. It would normally cost $29, but we got it for $8! I'm planning on trying it later today. We got lunch at the mall. Adia ate her first fortune cookie and loved it. Apparently she's good with money. Then I shared some raspberry frozen yogurt with her before we walked home.

It felt even colder on the way back and Adia wouldn't keep the mittens on. She was definitely not a happy camper. Scott and I traded carrying her most of the way back and she screamed the entire way. She was happy when we got home though. She started playing and acted like nothing had ever happened.

Yesterday wasn't as good of a day for her though. Scott had to go in for a meeting during the afternoon so when he got back, he slept. Normally he'd be awake to play with Adia. Adia was not happy that she wasn't getting her normal Daddy-Daughter time because she also missed out on it in the morning. Scott was still asleep at dinnertime. Adia threw all he bread on the floor, but finished her yogurt. She started crying when we went into the bathroom because Scott wasn't there for bath time. Once I got her in the tub, she was happier.

When it was time to get out, Adia stood against the side of the tub. She does this every night, no problem. Of course, this night it had to be different. I had just finished laying her towel in my lap when she slipped. She smacked her head against the side of the tub and went under. I pulled her out immediately and she was screaming, blood everywhere. I had no idea where it was coming from and she wouldn't let me look at her face. I screamed for Scott, who woke up instantly. He came running into the bathroom. I was sitting on the floor, bawling my eyes out, holding a screaming bloody baby. It didn't take long for Adia to calm down. The blood was coming from her mouth, but luckily she hadn't bit through her lip or tongue. Her bottom teeth hit her gums on top and took a chunk out where her top tooth is coming through. There was tons of blood, but hardly any damage. Within 5 minutes she was smiling and laughing at Scott and leaving bloody kisses on his white t-shirt. I was still a wreck though and doubt I'll be doing bath time for a very long time.

she wouldn't let me catch her to put her pjs on

She played for a couple hours before getting tired. She cried when Scott left for work, but quickly snuggled up to me and fell asleep. She slept most of the night on Scott's side of the bed and only woke up at 6am for a bottle. Then she slept on my chest. Scott took her when she woke up this morning. She was all smiles when she saw me at 9:30. She happily ate breakfast and then we took a shower. I've been trying for the last 2 hours to get her to nap, but no luck. If she doesn't nap after lunch, we're trying out that snowsuit and going for a walk.

Pointer Sister

I said Adia's new thing was pointing, well she proved how good she is at it. I took a picture of her at dinner a couple nights ago. After the flash, she started squinting and pointed at the light fixture and then the camera. I think she was trying to get a point across. Hmm.. "flash bright like light" maybe? She'll also point at whatever she wants, like more Eggo or some water to drink.

Bread Rocks!

We seem to have abandoned sippy cups for now too. She has better luck drinking out of a regular cup. I have to hold it and tip it for her or she ends up soaking wet, but she chokes and gags less on it. We're still trying to figure out how to get her off the bottle though. Once she hits a year, it's bye bye bottle for sure. It would be nice if we could wean her off it before that though.

She'd already bathed herself in water at this point.

That cup was Scott's when he was little.

The crib is out too. She absolutely, positively refuses to sleep in it, or stay asleep in it. I don't know if she gets cold or she's about to hit some new milestone, but she'll only stay asleep in bed with me. If someone would have told me that I'd still be sleeping with her at 10 1/2 months, I would have thought they were crazy. I was definitely going to have her sleeping in her crib at 6 months, and for a few weeks, that was true. Someone had other ideas though. The other night she was asleep on Scott's side of the bed when I fell asleep. I woke up 5 hours later and she was asleep on my chest. I'm still trying to figure out how that happened. Every night she ends up in that same position and it's killing my back. I do enjoy the cuddles and heat she gives off.

Adia has been eating more lately too. She demands breakfast every morning around 10am. She eats her whole wheat Eggo and 1/2 a jar of fruit with some Bee Buzz (bee shaped graham crackers). Today she gobbled down 3/4 of her Eggo and probably would have eaten the whole thing if she'd hadn't dropped part of it on the floor. She's also started eating a snack while I have lunch. I found out she loves string cheese yesterday and rye crackers.

I think she's holding a piece of toast, but I could be wrong.

After breakfast, it's shower time with Mommy. I really feel like the primate I am when we shower together. Adia clings tight to me the entire time. I feel like a chimp with a baby on her back (in my case, my front). It's sweet. Today she kept laying her head against me and rubbing her eyes. I thought the second we got out that she'd want a nap. I was wrong. She wanted to play a little bit before, snuggling up and falling asleep with her bottle. She was especially goofy while I put her diaper on and got her dressed though. She kept playing with her feet and putting them in her mouth, something she doesn't normally do anymore. She also gave me some lovely tooth grins (which she wouldn't let me capture on film) and I was able to see that her second front tooth has now broken through. No more cranky baby, hopefully or Tylenol junkie. Her fangs are very pronounced. I hope I can get another good picture of them because it's hilarious looking when she smiles huge.

Until I find a better solution at keeping Adia warm, I think walks are out. We walked down to Barnes and Noble in the middle of the day and I ended up with a babycicle on the way back. She was wearing multiple layers, including a warm snowsuit and blanket, but her hands, feet and face were like icicles. She wouldn't let me put mittens on her. I got the first one on before she realized what was happening, but when I tried to get the other one on, she spazzed out. She did not like losing her dexterity. I was thinking that maybe I could walk with her in the Kozy and a coat around us both, but I'm not sure that would work either. Why does it have to be so cold?

Oh.. and before I forget, Adia demonstrated how she can climb on the couch. She uses a pillow as a step stool and up she goes. She was rather efficient and smart. That means nothing's safe anymore. While I was brushing my teeth this morning, she tried scaling the baby gate in the bathroom too. This coming from the baby who refuses to stand alone, even though she's perfectly capable of it. She even tried climbing the cubes under the window too. We're going to be in serious trouble once she figures it out. I bet she'll try getting on top of the bench in front of the TV next. So many electronics to mess with!

And a picture to make you smile. She's really starting to love the ball popper.

That's her new happy face, by the way

rough night

We had a rough night yesterday. Adia just wouldn't stay asleep and it resulted in Scott and I getting less than 4 hours of sleep. It was horrible and when I got up, Adia was incredibly whiny. Eventually we got her in a good mood. She started playing with Scott and laughing like crazy. She's even learned to love the ballpopper. She used to be scared of it. If only she's chase the balls and put them back in.

After breakfast, where Adia ate almost an entire whole wheat eggo and a container of applesauce, we went for a walk. It was really cold outside, 40 degrees at the most. I put Adia in two pairs of pants and layers on top. I forgot her blanket and felt horrible. It wasn't bad on the walk to the mall, it was the walk back that was freezing. There was a cold wind and the sun wasn't shining as much. Adia started to get fussy on the way there so I held her awhile before Scott put her on his shoulders. Then she was in heaven. She loved watching the ducks and geese. She's a definite nature lover.

When we got to the mall, we walked around for a bit. Scott bought us frozen yogurt and I shared with Adia. She LOVED every bite. She kept motioning for more. We'll have to make sure we have plenty of ice cream for her 1st birthday. She got upset when there wasn't anymore. On our way back home, she started fussing. She was rubbing her eyes and looking very tired. We made her a bottle and handed it to her. Then we walked back with the stroller tipped back so Adia could drink. She woke up when we got home and her legs and hands were freezing. I felt so bad. We snuggled on the couch, but she refused to keep the blanket around her. Within minutes she was back to playing.

Adia was a big eater for dinner. I made garlic bread and while I was cutting the bread, I cut off the heal for her. She chomped on that piece of bread all through dinner. She came very close to finishing it before dropping it on the floor. She also ate an entire yogurt and played with some spaghetti noodles. She wasn't so sure about them or what she was supposed to do. She did put one in her mouth, but couldn't get a bite. Next time I'll have to boil up some fun pasta shapes for her since she now seems interested in real foods.

Adia had a nice long bath with Scott, lots of splashing and playing. After getting out of the bath, she didn't really want to play. She already seemed tired and wanted a bottle. I snuggled up with her on the floor and she drank 2oz before passing out. Scott and I watched a movie while laying on the floor and when it was over, Adia and I went to bed. She complained a little when we moved, but didn't wake up all the way. She woke up at 2am, but after a bottle, she went back to sleep until 6:30. I couldn't get her back to sleep then so Scott took her. She then slept until almost 9 when I woke up to her talking.

We ate breakfast together this morning. She ate 1/2 an eggo and 1/2 a container of strawberry banana. She's never had it before so I was amazed she ate so much of it. I didn't think she like bananas either, but I guess she does. She also drank out of a cup. I think we're mostly skipping sippy cups since she has better luck with cups. We took a shower together after breakfast and now she's napping.
