We're getting ready to fly to California. We don't leave for 6 more days, but any parent knows it's better to get stuff done way ahead of time. I packed our clothes today since the laundry had just been done. It's always tough to pack for Adia since she outgrows stuff so fast and clothing sizes are bizzare. I don't want to pack anything that doesn't fit so I had her try on her swimming suit. It's the same swimming suit she wore a year ago. It was huge on her then and is supposed to fit a 13-18 pounder. Adia's now 19.5lbs so I thought I'd try it and see.

Surprisingly, it still fit. The top was a little tight, which made Adia unhappy. I won't be taking it with us. She'll wear her Little Mermaid suit instead, but it was fun to see her in it again.

Walking with DiDi

We took a walk to the mall with DiDi this afternoon. The weather was beautiful, if not a little on the warm side. It was supposed to rain, but it never did. Adia was in the stroller in the beginning, but she never lasts. There's too much to see and do and walking is way better than riding.

To infinity and beyond!

She pointed at a dandelion so I plucked it and handed it to her. She thought it was pretty cool. She sniffed it at first, but it was a high pollen flower. Her whole nose was yellow orange. It actually looked like she had rubbed the powder from mac and cheese on her nose. She held onto the flower for the longest time. Scott managed to put it behind her ear. She kept knocking it off, but eventually kept it in place.

She was soon sidetracked by a flock of geese and their goslings. They were everywhere! The goslings ranged from newborns to almost adults. I couldn't believe the size difference. We got hissed at by several geese, but they were on one side of the fence and we were on the other.

When she stopped holding our hands, Scott picked her up and put her on his shoulders. She started giggling and smiling. We were able to pick up our pace too. We were once again slowed by another animal, a squirrel. I seem to have passed on my love of squirrels to Adia. She'll stop dead in her tracks when she sees one, point and yell, "Squirrel." We watched him forever until he finally ran off into the bushes. I think Adia wanted to follow and wasn't very happy when we kept walking.

When Scott grew tired and Adia started lunging, I took over. She was happy holding my hand for a little bit, but soon wanted on my shoulders. I hadn't picked the best shoes for her since I hadn't expected her to do much walking. Sitting on my shoulders didn't last long though. She was squirming and trying to get down. I put her back in her stroller, which didn't go over very well. Scott started jogging with her and doing wheelies, which improved her mood a bit.

She kept trying to take off her shoes, so Scott took him off for her. While he was trying to stow one of them in the stroller, it flew through the air and off the bike path. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem, but we were stopped on a bridge. He had to climb over the railing to retrieve the shoe.

Adia complained the rest of the way to the mall, but grew quiet when we got inside. We bought some ice cream and Adia shared with Scott. She really enjoyed his raspberry frozen yogurt. It was hilarious to watch him feed her because she'd open her mouth huge to take bites, but then only take itty bitty tastes. She showed us a new skill of hers. She reached halfway across the table to grab a napkin and then daintily wiped her mouth. I thought for sure it was a one time occurence, but when she felt ice cream on her top lip, she reached for the napkin again and dab her mouth. DiDi, Scott and I just stared at her in shock. It was one thing to see her do it, but she actually wiped where she needed to wipe and was successful.

When the ice cream was done, we headed to the pet store. I fell in love with an adorable baby guinea pig yesterday and was hoping it would still be there today. I don't need a new guinea pig, but I wanted to show it to Adia. We were of course sidetracked by the giant stuffed bear. She didn't try to drag him away this time, but she did snuggle up to him. The only way we could get her away was to ask if she wanted to see kitties and doggies. She ran towards the pet store.

She was already grinning several feet from the pet store. She could see one puppy jumping around his cage. I think she was in love. We checked out the kitties, but Adia wasn't too interested because they weren't moving. Most of the dogs were sleeping too. We then headed for the guinea pigs. My guinea pig was no longer there. It made me sad, but he was too cute to stay for long. I did catch another pig and Adia pet him for a bit. There's one problem with baby fingers and guinea pigs though. Guinea pigs can easily mistake baby fingers for baby carrots. Adia nearly got nibbled on, but we both moved fast enough to avoid it. It would certainly not be the first time it's happened.

Adia didn't want to leave the pet store, but was soon distracted by a bunch of quarter operated kiddie rides. We set her on the duck first. I knew she wanted it to move, but the last time we tried that, she started screaming in terror. She then checked out the ice cream truck. I thought we'd never get her out of it. She threw a fit when Scott had to be the bad guy and take her out of it.

She complained most of the way home. She wasn't happy to be back in the stroller. We saw several nutrias, but I'm not sure Adia actually saw them. When we got back home, Gampa and Unky Eck were here. DiDi had to head back home too and Adia was very unhappy about that. She cried when DiDi said goodbye and followed her to the door. Within a few minutes she was ok, but solemn. She was soon playing with Unky Eck and being silly. She almost started crying when they left too. I guess her parents are just too boring for her. She ate a good dinner and took her bath.

She had been acting tired all afternoon, despite a 2 hour nap. Adia's become a good climber, which means she's also become a good faller. She was climbing on the chair by the couch when she toppled head over heels. Of course she hit the only hard, sharp thing on the way down. I jumped up and grabbed her. It was one of those falls where you're just waiting for the loudest scream ever because she's holding her breath. Almost immediately her right cheekbone puffed up and turned purple. Scott grabbed ice and I tried to hold it on her cheek, but she wouldn't keep it there. She kept trying to put it on her ear and jaw, much like Scott did when he had his wisdom teeth removed earlier this month. I guess she remembered. She was soon acting like her regular self. She attacked Scott and he started tickling her. That made her start laughing hysterically.

It wasn't too hard to get her to bed for the night. I sat down in her rocker and started reading her books out loud. That soon brought her in. She stacked all her books on the ottoman and then climbed in my lap. We read them all before she started to act tired. She was out by 8:30 with almost no crying, which was a big improvement. Normally she screams so loud and long it sounds like I'm torturing her. I hope she sleeps well tonight. She was up from 11:30pm-2am last night.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Adia saw her Gamma and met her Great Aunt and Uncle yesterday. They came up for a quick visit. We ate lunch at Olive Garden and Adia hammed it up. She knows exactly how to make everyone fall in love with her. I was worried how she'd act because she totally refused to take a nap. She ate quite a bit of the food I brought with us and mostly made faces at her Great Aunt. We waited outside afterwards because she was tired of sitting still. What you can't see is all the cottonwood fluff in the air. It's everywhere and makes it look like it's snowing. Adia likes it, but I'm hating it.

We then headed over to the mall. Gamma bought me a new dress and Adia some cute new summer clothes. Her Great Aunt bought her a cute summery outfit too. When we got home, Adia made me put the bright yellow shorts on her and her new rainbow colored sandals. I think she approved of them. We made our way towards the next store and a giant stuffed bear caught her eye. She made a break for it. She was laughing and poking him in the tummy. She then grabbed his leg and tried to pull him away. That was certainly never going to happen. In order to get her away from him, I asked if she wanted to see the doggies and kitties. Her head popped up and off she went. She knew exactly where the pet store was. We heard lots of "OOOh! Wow!"s and "meow"s and a couple "Kitty!" She definitely wants a cat and dog. I also showed her the guinea pigs.

We made one last stop for Gamma to look for clothes. They had several sets of three way mirrors and Adia thought it was the coolest thing ever. I think we could have easily stayed there all day. I missed the beginning on video because I was dying laughing, but I did get a couple pictures and a little video. I think I'm raising a little narcissist.

Adia started to act tired and get pretty cranky. She frequently laid her head on the floor and when she tried to make a break for it, she became dead weight when I caught her. Then, while trying to run away from me, she tripped and face planted right into the floor. She ended up with some minor rug burn on her forehead and cheek. Surprisingly, it was already gone this morning.

She fell asleep in the car on the way home. I was able to carry her upstairs and lay her in bed. She didn't sleep too long, but was pretty hungry when she woke up. She stayed up later than normal because she took a nap so late. She can now climb on our couch by herself and that leads to lots of falls. Last night she fell off and landed directly on her head. It made the most sickening crunch. She laid sprawled next to me, eyes wide open and in total shock. She screamed after I carefully picked her up, but it was only a couple screams before she was climbing back up. I then spent the next hour in bed trying to get her to sleep. We finally passed out around 10 and she was up at 6:30. I wasn't so awake though.

Today has been a day of too many nasty diapers. I'm starting to wonder if she has problems with milk too. She seems to go more often after eating lactose. It wouldn't surprise me since it runs in both families. At least it's not a reaction like with wheat. I got her to take a nap. It was almost 2 hours long, but she woke up cranky. She's acted tired all day.

We ate lunch and then I opened the sliding glass door for some air. Adia sat down in front of the screen and stared outside. She giggled every time the breeze hit her, but then really started chattering, giggling and becoming very animated. I had no idea what she saw, but she was happy about it. Then she started crying. That's when there was a knock on the door and it was DiDi. She could see DiDi in the parking lot! Adia was so happy to see her, but started getting suspicious when Scott and I put on shoes. DiDi said she never complained the whole time we were gone (we saw Indiana Jones). They played outside, ate lots of snacks and when we got home, Adia was eating dinner.

The second we opened the door, she yelled "Hi!" She wouldn't let me set her down. Somehow we got her to take a bath and the it was back to bouncing on mommy. She really started to get tired and cranky around 8. We had a small fight before she finally fell asleep. She's really been fighting sleep lately and I wish I knew why. I'm always here when she wakes up.

So no new blog yesterday because she woke up after only sleeping 45 minutes. I tried for over a hour and a half to get her back to sleep and had no success. I never showered yesterday either. Surprisingly, I don't feel too gross today, but I am hoping she'll sleep

Gamma gave Adia a princess tent before we came back to Eugene on Tuesday. It was a big hit with Adia even though she couldn't seem to figure out how to get in and out at first. Now she's a pro at it. She loves to carry books inside and look at them or have Scott join her inside to read.

Gamma and Gampa also had a dog visiting them. He was pretty hyper at first, but once he calmed down, Adia loved him. She really wants a dog. She'd giggle every time he licked her and especially liked when he licked her toes and fingers. After playing with him for a little bit, she went back to the cat. I think she likes how calm the cat is too. She can just pet him without all the bounciness.

While at his parent's house, Scott brought out the Legos. We didn't know how Adia would do with them. We were both worried she's eat them, but she did really well. It turned out that the biggest problem was her scattering them everywhere. When she saw the tubs the next day, she screamed "Legos!" and tried to rip of the lids. I think we have a legomaniac in the works.

Scott bought me Wii Fit for Mother's Day and I absolutely love it. I've actually already lost 3lbs since we picked it up on Wednesday. It makes exercise incredibly fun. The yoga and balance games rock! Adia seems to like it too. In order to get a proper work out, I have to do it while she's napping, otherwise she jumps onto the balance board too. Her naps have been limited lately though. She just woke up after a little over a hour so I'm going to jump in the shower while she's awake. This should be interesting.

What's your Mothering Style?

I got this from McMommy, who got it from another blog.

Your type is: infp —The “Tuned In” Mother

“Inside our children, I believe, is a truth that tells them what’s best for them. I am always listening for that truth.”

Aware, astute, and understanding, the INFP mother is sensitive to her child’s needs, feelings, and perceptions. By observing and listening to the cues of the whole child, she is “tuned in” and naturally develops an intuitive feel for what he or she needs. Responsive and helpful as well, she tends patiently to those needs as they arise.

The INFP mother is comfortable letting her children follow their own course of development and make their own choices. She offers encouragement and uses her insights to head off trouble and difficult issues.

The INFP mother takes vicarious pleasure giving her children good experiences and watching them enjoy childhood. She’s happiest creating pleasant, memorable times for the whole family.

I think it's pretty accurate and the same way DiDi raised me.
Hopefully, they'll be a new blog later today. Adia's been super clingy so we'll see. I've also become addicted to Wii Fit.

The Beach

We took Adia to the beach on Monday. She hasn't been in ages and not since she learned to walk. She fell asleep in the car on the way there. She wasn't just asleep, she was out for the count. I managed to get her sweatshirt on her, even though she was limp and not helping at all. The second I got her out of the car and the wind hit her face, she was wide awake. Her head popped up, her eyes opened and she got the silliest grin on her face.

I carried her out to the water since it has turned into a long hike. She was enjoying the wind on her face and pointed at every bird she saw. There weren't many sea gulls but we did see a hawk with a fish. She thought that was pretty cool.

When we reached the water, I set Adia down. She loved the feel of the sand. She ran around laughing and smiling. She absolutely loved it.

She kept pointing at the water though so I told her we could dip our toes in. The water on the Oregon Coast is incredible cold though. I had a feeling she would either start crying and want to be picked up or actually think it was neat. We had fun dodging waves at first, but when her feet actually got wet, she started crying and screaming to be picked back up.

We got out of the water and headed down the beach. Adia would have walked for miles, if we had let her.

We headed back towards the car and Adia wasn't happy about it. Her tune quickly changed when Scott put her on his shoulders. She always loves that.

Adia didn't want to get in the car. She fought the carseat. I finally got her in and I thought she was going to fall asleep on the way out to Gamma and Gampa's house. She didn't though. When we got to Gamma and Gampa's house, Adia started playing. When she started to get cranky, I attempted to get her to sleep. She screamed for over 30 minutes. I set her on the ground and the screaming continued. Kitty came over to investigate what was wrong and ended up jumping in my empty lap. Adia was not happy that kitty was in my lap and she wasn't. Scott put her back in my lap and she calmed down, gently petting the kitty. In just a couple minutes, Adia was fast asleep. We eventually had to move the kitty because I started coughing and my eyes started itching, but we were happy for quite awhile. I took a short nap while Adia slept 2 hours. She woke up in the much better mood.

The Beach!

Busy Weekend

It was Rhododendron weekend in Florence. There's a carnival, bikers come from all over the country, hotels are all booked, there's a big parade on Sunday. It can be tons of fun and I knew Adia might enjoy some of the sights and sounds.

We spent Saturday afternoon at Gamma and Gampa's house. Auntie Colie, Unky Eck and some of Auntie Colie's friends were there for a BBQ. DiDi also brought Tanae and Lexi. It was a full house and Adia had a blast. She visited one person after another and then the girls all took apart the Tupperware. That's a favorite pastime for Adia when she's there. Who needs to buy toys?

It was pretty late when we got back to DiDi's. I really wanted to take Adia to Old Town to see all the motorcycles and carnival lights though. With three kids, an outing like that takes forever. I jammed Adia's car seat into the back of DiDi's car. I think that took the most time and then we loaded up the kids. Lexi screamed while Tanae and Adia tried to make her happy. We parked and DiDi put Tanae in the stroller and Lexi in the snuggly. Adia rode in the Kozy. We walked Bay Street and I've never heard so many "Oh Wow!"s out of Adia. She loved every single motorcycle and the more noise it made, the better. That really surprised me since loud noises usually scare her. We made our way to the carnival and once again, more "Oh Wow!"s from Adia. Lexi fell asleep, Tanae looked unamused and Adia was excited, but tired. After completing the loop, we got back in the car. Tanae began asking for milk and Lexi started laughing, which got Adia laughing. They laughed all the way back. When we pulled them out of the car, Lexi had Tanae's sippy cup and Adia had Lexi's. Getting them all to sleep wasn't too bad. Adia was already 2 hours past her bedtime. Luckily she even slept in!

Sunday was the parade day. Adia wasn't feeling too well though. She was cuddly and fussy all morning. She did eat a big breakfast though. Adia is the smallest out of the three and it was so funny to watch her shovelling food in while the other two didn't want to eat. Adia has turned into a great eater, most of the time.

Lexi fell asleep before the parade and Adia had a meltdown. I put Adia in the Kozy, DiDi got Lexi to sleep and Gloria put Tanae in her stroller. Gamma arrived then too. We headed up to the parade, with DiDi joining us when Lexi finally woke up from her nap. Adia didn't last long in the Kozy, but also didn't want to stand still. Gamma kept her busy by letting her play in her purse. She soon had a meltdown though and it was obvious she needed a nap. She quickly fell asleep and slept through half the parade. She slept through sirens, marching bands and motorcycles.

She woke up cheerful and really enjoyed the marching bands. She'd dance every time they went by. DiDi soon arrived with Lexi. That made Tanae want DiDi. Lexi ended up in the stroller because she didn't want to stay still. When the parade ended, we headed back to DiDi's house for lunch.

Tanae fell asleep after lunch and Adia and Lexi had time to play together. They were really sweet together, but Adia kept yelling at the top of her lungs. Adia's normally so quiet, but when Tanae tries to sleep, she becomes the loudest kid ever. She did, however, find a cheerio mixed in with the toys. I saw her eating something and pounced on her, only to discover a cheerio in one hand and that she'd swallowed whatever was in her mouth. I was hoping 1 cheerio wouldn't cause a problem, but apparently it does. Within a hour or 2, she started screaming and didn't want any one to touch her. I've never seen a meltdown like it before. It was awful. She also developed a rash all over her body and, before her bath, had liquid diarrhea. One single cheerio was all it took.

Scott soon arrived from Eugene. She was so happy to see him. She got the biggest smile, did her head tilt and ran around squealing. She then gave him a big hug and kiss. She ate dinner and then had several more meltdowns before her bath. She didn't want to take a bath so I had to get in with her. Then she didn't want Scott to hold her. More screaming, hitting and pinching. It was horrible. DiDi offered to take her and let us go to the casino with Scott's parents. I was worried to leave her, but DiDi had her asleep within 15 minutes and she kept her all night.
