Summer Days

We've been spending time at the play area when it's either too wet or too hot to be outside. Yes, in Oregon it rains year round. The girls were not happy to learn that.

We went camping with Gramma, Papa and Colie for the 4th. It's a tradition. Last year involved lots of bottle washing, this year involved trying to keep the twins alive. We've discovered that even though Mira hates dirt, she like camping. She enjoys the new sights, sounds and adventures. Leia is not a camper, at least not for now. She spent most of the trip trying to get back in the van to go home. She had moments that she most certainly enjoyed, but overall, she wanted her familiar surroundings.

Auntie Colie's boyfriend's mom even came on the trip and brought her two pugs. The girls were in heaven. I was too. They were the sweetest dogs and the twins mauled them. Mira kept saying hi kitty, but we'll work on that. His mom had to check to make sure she had both her dogs when she left because I seriously wanted to steal them.

We camped right near the beach so we got one windy, but nice morning on the beach. Leia was definitely happy there. The twins got soaked playing in warm ocean puddles, but they didn't care.

It was then time to eat lunch and head up north to save a spot to watch fireworks. Luckily, the girls all fell asleep in the car. Daddy and I sat for at least 90 minutes in the car while they slept. We set up our spot and the girls wandered around for a bit. They ate ice cream and snacks and played with bubbles and pop-its. We tried to keep them busy, but they kept trying to run off. We had gluten free pizza for dinner.

Leia especially liked the pop-its. She discovered how to pop them in her hands. She'd twist the top and then pull, setting it off. She thought it was the coolest thing ever and it shocked us since we thought for sure it would hurt. Nope, that's all she wanted to do after that.

When it finally got dark (and cold!), we layered the twins in pjs and blankets and set up to watch the fireworks. They started off with Papa, but I ended up with Mira and Leia in my lap. Adia snuggled with Daddy. Mira fell asleep mid fireworks and Leia passed out towards the end. She would have stayed asleep, but the train woke her up. We got back to the van and Adia was out in seconds. Leia did stay awake long enough to see the train again. She pointed out the window, said "It's a train, choo choo choo" and that was the last we heard from her. They all slept like rocks, which was great since Daddy and I were exhausted too.

The next morning we took the most nerve wracking shower ever. The twins do not like showers, at all, especially when you can't control the water temperature, but they were starting to stink. Adia did really well and was very helpful. It was then time to repack the car and head back down the coast. The twins were out in seconds, but Adia stayed awake. We left Daddy in the van with the twins while Adia and I went into the cheese factory. She was desperate for cheese curds and ice cream. We quickly bought the cheese curds, but then were stuck in line for ice cream for at least 30 minutes. There were so many people. By the time Adia got her ice cream, she didn't eat much, but she did devour some cheese curds.

We headed back down the coast, stopping the Newport to eat. Adia refused to eat, but the twins ate and we think may have gotten good poisoning. When we arrived in Yachats, where Daddy and I were staying kid free for 2 nights, Leia puked. She's never puked before so the look on her face was priceless. Daddy cleaned up the coffee table while I took Leia into the bathroom where she puked a few more times. I did manage to get her to spit it into the toilet, but she looked at me like I was nuts.

DiDi arrived a little while later. Leia was wearing my sweatshirt since all her clothes were in the car. We loaded them up, but DiDi didn't get very far since there was a car accident on 101. She turned around, came back and we looked up directions to get home going the opposite way. Sadly, Mira and Leia had some huge diaper explosions on the way home. Mira was covered up to her neck and Leia had it down her legs. Mira hates being dirty so she was totally freaking out. She cleaned them up, but when we picked them up on Thursday, I had to remove Mira's carseat from DiDi's car so she could take it apart and clean every piece. We're hoping she can get the odor out. It was bad.
