These Boots Were Made for Stomping

Adia has been begging to splash in puddles so I figured why not do it today. It was raining, puddles everywhere and she wasn't dressed yet. It seemed perfect. I asked her if she wanted to go outside and splash in puddles and she responded with a head nod and, "My BOOTS and my COAT!"

I kept her in her pjs, knowing the boots would easily slide over the pant legs and not drag in the water. That was followed by a sweatshirt and her raincoat that matches her boots. Both are still a bit big (I have to roll up her sleeves), but would keep her warm and dry. Adia was super excited when we walked out the door. Luckily, my raincoat still zips over the expanding tummy. I don't know how, but it does. Without it, I would have been soaked.

She was trying to splash in puddles as we came down the stairs. She started talking about how wet it was and that it was raining. She's a true Oregonian who loves the weather, rain, wind, hail, occasional sun. She's all about it. She first made a run for the car until I explained we'd be playing outside. She squealed with glee. Water is her kind of thing.

Adia splashed at first and then went to rock collecting and throwing. She decided she wanted to go back inside, not because she was wet (her pants, butt and one sock got soaked), but because she got her hands muddy. She had to go in to wash her hands.

I convinced her to take a bath when we got inside, but it was a hard sell. It was a long bath anyway and she was toasty once again. We had lunch (tuna and chips, an Adia favorite) and I hoped she'd nap. I didn't get my way, despite the fact she was incredibly tired. She spent the rest of the afternoon being grumpy and getting into trouble. After Daddy got up, she went to the store with him and I got some quiet time. She gobbled down dinner (roast and cornbread) and it was bed time. After a library of books, several renditions of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and some snuggling, she was out cold in her bed. I even remembered the eye drops tonight and she didn't fight me off. I wonder how long she'll last on her own tonight.
