Babies, Birthdays & Baking

Summer has been flying by. DiDi started back to school yesterday & Adia starts preschool the week after that.

We had a playdate with Carson & his new little sister Chloe. DiDi & Daddy were able to join us too. The girls had a blast playing with Carson's toys, the giant play structure in the back yard & the sprinkler. Sadly, Mira ended UO with a bloody nose when Carson's daddy tried to catch her at the bottom of the slide. Their slide is new & fast, which led to some problems for the twins. Luckily, Mira was perfectly fine after a few minutes & was happily climbing again. Adia particularly liked holding Chloe. Chloe managed to spit up on Adia's shirt and she didn't even flinch. I guess she's a seasoned pro.

We headed back to Gramma & Papa's for Auntie Colie's birthday. The girls were so happy to see her, but it was weird to have her birthday without Eric. He was definitely missed, but the girls took turns blowing out the candles just for him.

I've been introducing the twins to baking lately too. It's been interesting, to say the least. They end up shooting more shortening & sugar around the table than stays in the bowl. Then there's the eating of the cookie dough. The batch we just made only tuned out a couple dozen cookies because the girls ate so much dough.

Daddy came home just in time to have fun too. When we mix the dough by hand, Adia's arms get tired.

We had fun on Daddy's last day off. Adia had an eye recheck & she no longer has to wear the blur patch over her left eye. She was so happy. She goes back in 3 months for another check. Hopefully her right eye continues to improve. I also had an eye doctor appointment. I'll be picking up my new glasses next week. We met up with DiDi at the mall later in the day. The twins were so excited to see her. She treated us to Red Robin afterward & Leia would not sit still.

Meanwhile, the house seems to be out of it's honeymoon phase. The heat pump went out a few days ago, when we were having the hottest temps we've seen all summer. $400 later, it works again & we now have a maintenance plan to keep it in good condition. Then, since the heat pump wasn't working, we attempted to use the built in AC until in the living room. We're planning on removing it, but it's honestly attached to the wall so we haven't done it yet. We were sweltering inside so Daddy plugged it in. It works wonderfully except it overloads the circuit it's on & nearly caused a fire. We won't be making that mistake again. Then, I turned on the garbage disposal & there was a plastic spoon in it. We're not entirely sure what happened, but the disposal is dead along with the bar lights & electrical outlets on that circuit. Not cool. I guess we'll be calling an electrician this week & making do without a garbage disposal & dishwasher. Ugh. All I can think of is what's next?

Haircuts, Daytrips and New Additions

Adia was begging to get her haircut so I took her last week. When we got there she said she wanted it super short, like pixie cut short. I knew if we did that, she wouldn't be happy about it so we settled for an a-line cut. It's so super cute! I love it and so does she. She's been brushing her hair everyday and let me put barrettes in it.

We also rearranged the twins' bedroom. The beds are in an L shape now and they love it. They've actually been sleeping better.

On Friday, we went to Corvallis to visit Auntie Colie. We ate lunch, went to the park and had gelato.

I've also been thinking about getting a dog so Colie mentioned an animal shelter nearby. We took the girls in to visit the dogs and one in particular stuck out. He was calm, came up to meet the girls, but didn't bark or jump up. He was cautious, but sweet. I just knew we had to have him so we adopted him. He's a 3 year old male chihuahua terrier mix.

At the shelter, his name was Goliath, but it just didn't fit him. Daddy thought of Cheeto bandito when we saw him because he was wearing a bandanna. The name stuck so he's now known as Cheeto. He's been a sweetheart with the girls and is very well behaved on walks and generally doesn't try to steal food from the girls.

However, the first thing he did when he came home was poop in the house. I spent the first 24 hours continually cleaning up messes despite walks and going out back often. It was really frustrating and I really worried I'd made a huge mistake. Luckily, yesterday he didn't have a single accident. He's very willing to please so when you tell him no, he learns. He did start today by spraying the laundry basket though. That was a bit frustrating. I read that it's normal for shelter dogs to have that problem in the beginning though. He was so good yesterday that he slept between Scott and I in bed last night. He's such a love bug.

We took him for a check up at the vet on Sunday too. He got a clean bill of health except for his teeth. His teeth look awful. They're covered in tartar, but luckily his gums are diseased yet. I wasn't too surprised though considering his breath is pretty bad. The vet said it's really common in small dogs, especially chihuahuas. He goes in on the 5th for a dental cleaning. I also bought greenies, nylabones and a toothbrush with toothpaste. That should be interesting. Rascal never liked her teeth cleaned either.
