2 months

If anyone had any doubts that the girls weren't identical, here's a picture for you. They do have similar features, but most definitely look different. Leia also has Adia and my skin tone, including her brown smudges, but Mira's darker, like her Daddy. I wonder if their hair will stay dark or lighten. Adia was born a blond, but not these two.

Adia had her first ice cream cone a few days ago. We were able to buy gluten free cones at the store and I was so excited. I think I might have been more excited that she was. She also had no idea how she was supposed to eat it, but she figured it out without too much of a mess. I tried one of the cones today and they taste just like regular ones!

Mira's been smiling more and more. It's the sweetest sight to see. I love her dimples and the way her eyes crinkle. I'm hoping that Leia starts giving me big gummy grins soon too. Mira's also started to be awake more often and really check out her surroundings. She likes the sound of DiDi's voice and will turn her head to follow the sound. The other day she even smiled when she heard and saw DiDi come in the door. It was so sweet.

Adia keeps going from demon child to sweetheart and back again within seconds. It's so hard to judge her moods. Yesterday she slept 12 hours and was a holy terror all day. Today, she slept 11 and has been touch and go all day. I just can't win. I do like how she's been asking to go to bed, starting at 7:45p, and she's also been asking to use the potty. She really wants to go to preschool and we've told her the only way she can go is if she's potty trained.

My cousin stopped by this last weekend to meet the twins and say hi to Adia. She got here really late so Adia was already sleeping, but she was able to hold the twins. The next morning we went out to breakfast. Adia was awful and even crawled under the table and pooped. Not my finest parenting moment. The waitress thought Adia was cute though and gave her a stuffed lion. After eating, Adia got to stick her toes in the pool and hot tub. I swear, the hot tub was cooler than how she likes her baths.

I attempted taking pictures of the girls together today since it's the twin's 2 month birthday. That took some effort. Mira kept screaming and then Adia decided she didn't want to be in pictures. I can only picture it getting more difficult as they get older. Mira did start grinning for a couple of them so that was cool. Too bad Adia wouldn't give me a genuine smile.

Now Leia's asleep in the swing and Mira's cooing and smiling at me. She knows how to get my attention. She's also been a great sleeper lately. She consistently seems to sleep a 6-7 hour stretch at night and then go right back to sleep after being changed and eating. Leia, not so much. She's up every few hours and then won't go back to sleep. She's also not very good about sleeping during the day. She's just too much like Adia.

nothin' better

There's absolutely nothing better than this:

Now I just have to wait for Leia to do the same.

Trip to the Coast

We headed back to the coast on Monday. Adia hasn't been to the beach in a long time and DiDi went back to school so we thought it would be fun. Adia couldn't stop talking about going to Papa's house and the beach. She was practically bouncing off the walls in anticipation. When we got into town, we dropped our stuff off at Gramma and Papa's house before heading over to the school. We thought the teachers and staff might like to see the twins and we were right. Adia was super happy to see DiDi and get to write on her chalk board again. She was a little confused as to why there were no kids though. She doesn't understand the whole summer thing. We did manage to attempt a family picture.

We went out to dinner and Adia was incredibly hyper. It was insanely hard to keep her occupied, but she did eat her hamburger and kept dipping her fries in ketchup to share with Daddy. Adia hates ketchup. She's a mustard only girl.

The next day we went to the lighthouse. I used to play on that beach all the time when I was growing up. DiDi and I would go there almost every day in the summer with Rascal. We'd climb rocks, hike up to the lighthouse and run along the beach with Rascal at our heels. I absolutely love that beach because it's partially protected from the wind as well. Adia seemed to enjoy it. There was hardly any wind, but there were flies everywhere. They were a pain.

Papa held onto Leia and tried to keep the sun out of her face while Gramma had Mira. I eventually ended up with Mira in the Kozy because Gramma's arms got tired. I don't blame her. Mira's tough to hold for long periods of time.

Adia actually played in the water and looked for rocks. We had a small incident with her though. Normally she grabs a hand and runs from the waves with you, but this time she was being miss independent. I warned her that a wave was coming (small wave, barely to her knees) and that she should run. She started to move, but much too slowly and when it hit her and she tried to run, she fell flat. Her shovel and rake went flying and she started screaming. I quickly grabbed her without dropping the camera, but I did get soaked too. Daddy went for the rake and shovel so they wouldn't get carried out to sea. Once she was calmed down, he handed them back to her. She was so happy that they were safe, but didn't say a word to me about saving her. I guess I know where her priorities are. Of course, being a mommy, I packed extra clothes for all the kids, but I was left in my soaking wet jeans and sweatshirt.

Adia then played on the rocks with Gramma once she recovered and also went back to digging in the sand. She didn't care that she was wet, which soon turned into muddy as well. She only wanted her clothes changed once we sat down to eat a picnic lunch. She must have worked up a good appetite because she ate half her sandwich, grapes and chips.

She made it all the way back to Gramma and Papa's house without falling asleep. I thought for sure she'd be out. She was obviously tired, but she wouldn't nap. I ended up falling asleep instead. That was a nice nap. When I woke up, we had dinner, Adia took a bath and then we drove back home. Adia was asking to go home by then anyway.

Yesterday was a rough day because it was my first day with all three kids and absolutely no help. I managed to take them all to the grocery store. Adia rode in the cart, Mira was in the Kozy and I carried Leia on one arm. Shopping was difficult, it was getting in and out of the house that proved the problem. Daddy slept until 9 too so I was pulling my hair out by then I was so tired. Mira had also been super fussy all day long.

Today was a bit better. I took them to Target. Adia and Leia rode in the stroller while Mira was in the Kozy again. Leia and Mira slept through the whole ordeal and Adia was a perfect helper. I think she's starting to understand that if she wants to do anything, she's got to listen and be helpful or it's just not going to happen. When we got home, she demanded that I take pictures of her and the girls.

After dinner, Daddy took the girls and Adia and I went outside. I thought we were going for a walk, but Adia wanted to play instead. I was surprised because she can climb up to the slide all on her own. The last time we played there, she needed help. She's growing up so fast!

It was then bath and bed for her. She's getting better at going to bed and actually prefers her bed. She still ends up next to me in my bed before the night's over though. Cosleeping with 3 is interesting, to say the least.

I took a picture of Mira today because she reminded me of a picture of Adia I took a couple years ago. I can't believe how much they do look alike. I should put Mira in the same onesie, set her on that blanket and see how much I can make it look the same. Mira does have more hair and it's darker too.
