Hospital

Yep, I'm in the hospital. I was having what I thought were Braxton Hicks contractions yesterday. The started around 12:30ish while I was snuggled with Adia on the couch. I hadn't done anything strenuous and they didn't hurt at all so I figured they'd go away. Adia fell asleep so I laid her in bed, emptied my bladder, drank a bunch more water and laid down on the couch. That's when I realized that they weren't going away and that they could be timed. Around 2:30, I called my doctor's office and told them they were happening every 5-7 minutes and lasting about a minute. They didn't hurt, but there was a lot of pressure during each one. After the nurse consulted my doctor, she told me to head to labor and delivery.

I woke Daddy up, who jumped out of bed. I was rather surprised at his response. He's normally very hard to wake up. Adia, who was still sleeping, was a different story. I sat down next to her on the bed and tickled and kissed her until she finally smiled and said, "I stay sleeping Mommy." I eventually got her up enough, but she nearly fell asleep on my shoulder. Meanwhile, we were running around like chickens with our heads cut off because we had nothing packed and we knew Adia needed some snacks and toys to keep her occupied.

We got to the hospital and I thought for sure the contractions were slowing. We were checked in and monitored and the contractions quickly started showing up on the monitors. Both babies were doing great though. The on call doctor came by and decided to check me since the contractions weren't slowing and had actually started to pick up, coming every 3-4 minutes instead. To my surprise, I was 4cm and 50% effaced! Eeks! We were quickly admitted and put in Labor and Delivery. Adia was still doing well, but pretty confused. All I can say is thank you for Sponge Bob. It kept her occupied for the longest time, but she was soon going stir crazy.

Adia also didn't understand why Mommy couldn't hold her and wanted to know what the weird thing in my arm was (my IV). I told her it was a needle and it hurt so she wanted to kiss it better and kept asking if it felt better. She then checked out my other arm and it's bracelets. She played with those for the longest time.

I was surprised at how well she was doing. She did have one meltdown that wouldn't end. It was awful, but by the time Eck, Gramma and DiDi arrived, she was her happy, silly self again. DiDi was smart enough to bring food for her and Gramma had some too. Adia was definitely starving. I had only grabbed a couple fruit snacks and a cereal bar for her on the way out the door because I honestly thought we'd be sent home.

DiDi took Adia home. Adia didn't throw a fit at all. She gave me a huge hug and kiss, then grabbed DiDi's hand and followed Gramma and Eck out the door. When she got home, Eck put in Spirited Away for her and Adia was perfectly fine. She didn't ask for me and went to bed with DiDi. She also didn't ask for me this morning, but is carrying around my purple sweater like a security blanket. I'll admit, that made me cry. I miss her so much and it's so hard being away from her. They're coming to visit shortly though. DiDi's doing laundry and Adia decided to "nap" on the pile of clean clothes. She's just pretending, but it looks real to me. DiDi let me know that she's now running around the house wearing her Daddy's underwear.

Last night was rough for me though. I had a hard time falling asleep and then around 2:30 I woke up in pain. My contractions had become much more frequent and painful. I got up to pee, hoping that would help, but it didn't. I rolled to my other side, but still no help. The nurse said she couldn't give me any more nifedipine either and my next dose wasn't until 6. I did get some pepcid, which made my heartburn more bearable, and sometime around 4, I must have fallen asleep. I woke at 6, with even more painful, frequent contractions, but it was time for more nifedipine. It was rough until the drugs got in my system. Now my contractions are still coming, but spaced a lot farther apart. They still hurt though, which sucks.

Since I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes on Wednesday, I'm also getting my blood sugar monitored. When I came in yesterday, it was 79, even though I had eating recently. This morning after not eating all night, it was 107 and after breakfast it was 126. I was told it's higher than they like normally, but still good since the steroids can seriously mess up your blood sugar. It's been tough picking food to eat since everything seems to be simple carbs or breaded chicken or fish. Those are definitely not foods I normally eat. I eat primarily gluten free with lots of fruits, veggies and protein. Having a problem with dairy doesn't make it easier either. I did have 1/2 a pudding last night though and it didn't upset my stomach so maybe a little dairy will be ok. I still won't be drinking any milk though.

While I was typing this, I had to take a break to jump in the jacuzzi. That was positively awesome. I'm a bath girl anyway. I used to take them all the time when I had cramps so it was perfect. I only had one contraction while in there and it didn't hurt at all. It was funny though because when I turned on the jets, Baby B tried to jump out of my stomach. Daddy said it was like an alien trying to get out. Her head sticks way out and it does look pretty freaky.

Now I have to watch a video on gestational diabetes and learn how to use a blood sugar meter.

Another Fabulous Weekend

Adia and I headed to the coast for the weekend because we just couldn't handle the heat in the valley. It's bad enough when I'm not pregnant, but you add all that extra weight and baby and I just want to climb into the freezer. Daddy told us we should just head for the coast since Adia was also begging to go to DiDi's house. I packed out bags while she was in the bathtub and when she saw them, she asked, "We go DiDi's house this weekend?" When I told her yes, she started jumping up and down and screaming, "Yay!" After running and few errands and packing snacks for the car, we were off. Adia fell asleep, sunglasses still on, and slept through road construction stops and buying gas.

We met up with DiDi in Freddies. Adia just held on to her and wouldn't let go. We went back to DiDi's, ate dinner and Adia wanted in the bath tub. We went to bed pretty early. Normally we have some really late nights because Adia's having too much fun. Adia brushed her teeth, made faces in the mirror and then asked to watch Carebears in DiDi's room. We all piled into DiDi's bed and Adia was soon very very sleepy.

The next day DiDi took Adia to the park. The weather was so different on the coast that the slides were wet. Adia went down the slide and soaked her green pants. She wasn't very happy so they had to come back. I didn't pack Adia enough pants so she had to borrow an old pair of Tanae's. They fit her really well and she kept telling us how much she liked them. We were soon running errands around town and Adia got a new purple hat. She wore it around the house the rest of the weekend.

Adia also helped DiDi do laundry. I think she wanted her green pants back.

Daddy drove over Sunday night. Adia was so surprised to see him. She kept telling him how much she missed him and hugging on tight. DiDi had to work Monday so we went out to Gramma and Papa's for breakfast. Papa made a big breakfast and Adia helped him. She thought the apple peeler and corer was awesome. I think she ended up eating 3 apples by herself, just because she wanted to use the machine. She also ate a bunch of bacon and stole Papa's off his plate.

After Gramma got back from her doctor appointment, we went to lunch and then the beach. Adia fell asleep on the way to lunch, but she had already eaten a bunch of her french toast in the car. She woke up when Papa put her back in the car and she started asking if we were headed to the beach. She had a blast in the sand. She played in the hold that Daddy and Eck dug and then ran up and down the beach with Daddy, Eck, Gramma and Papa. I got to lay on a blanket in the sand and relax. That was nice too.

I also attempted to get some good Daddy and Adia pictures for Father's day. Adia wasn't very cooperative, but I guess they're more true to life this way.

We went back to Papa and Gramma's for dinner. Adia wanted to play soccer and draw with chalk. She just loves being outside. She also "helped" Papa make dinner.

Adia was really surprised when DiDi showed up too. It was all hugs for DiDi. We had dinner, even though Adia didn't eat much of her burger. Then it was Papa bath time. I think that's Adia's favorite part.

Adia begged to watch a movie afterward. We watched the beginning on Jungle Book before waking Daddy up to go home. He had to drive all the way back, but Adia and I stayed at DiDi's house. Amazingly, Adia didn't fall asleep in the car, but watched almost all of Toy Story before falling asleep against me.

Adia was not happy that DiDi had to work Tuesday too, but I told her we might get to meet up with her later. We walked over to the bowling alley where DiDi's class was bowling. Adia was shell shocked at first, but soon had to try it out. She didn't hit any pins, but thankfully didn't think it was soccer either. She told me she wants to bowl again soon.

We walked back with DiDi's class and then went back to DiDi's house for lunch. Adia ate 2 hotdogs and then had a freak out when I told her we had to go home. She didn't want to leave DiDi. She was fast asleep before we even made it to the highway. When we got home, the new car seat was sitting on the porch. Adia kept asking if it was for her sisters and would it be in the van. The first thing she had to do was clip her baby doll in it.

We woke Daddy up for dinner and we all headed to Olive Garden. I haven't been able to take Adia there for ages because she's gluten free. She had chicken and broccoli, but wouldn't eat anything. She was really good though.

It will no doubt be my last trip there for a long time since I found out today that I have gestational diabetes. I'm still waiting to hear from the nutritionist for an appointment. The twins look great though. They're moving like crazy and growing. I'm measuring 35 weeks right now. Last night after Adia went to bed, I painted the letters for the twin's names. They match the blankets I picked for them. It took me 2.5 hours to finish, but I knew I wouldn't get another chance.

We had another fun weekend with DiDi. Adia had been asking for her all week so when she finally arrived, Adia was jumping off the walls. I'm not sure who she wanted to see more, DiDi or PigPig, but she got them both. We ran around town Sunday until Adia got cranky. Then it was more errands on Monday. DiDi and I also cleaned the bedroom up so we'd have room for the twin's clothes and pack n play. Our bedroom looks so different and so much bigger, which is awesome. I just need a few more things and we'll be all set. Adia likes to walk in there and open up the drawers of baby clothes. She tells me they're her sisters and then wants to hug and kiss my tummy. I think she knows we're getting close to actually meeting them.

We went out to lunch and had ice cream on Monday too. I found out that I am indeed lactose intolerant now. I hope it's something that disappears after pregnancy, but knowing my family, it won't. It was just something I had been waiting to happen. Hopefully Adia is spared, but with a Daddy who was/is lactose intolerant and also a mom, grandma and uncle, it will no doubt hit her a some point. Right now I'm letting her eat all the dairy she wants.

Adia made sure she got in her piggie snuggles (along with lots and lots of DiDi cuddles). I am always amazed at how mellow and sweet PigPig is. I've had numerous guinea pigs and no other pig has been so great with small children. She actually gets excited to see Adia and wants her attention. When the girls are older and Adia wants a pet guinea pig, I don't know how we'll find one as sweet.

Adia spent Tuesday morning with DiDi while I had to be a human pin cushion. I flunked my 1 hour glucose test so I had to go back for a 3 hour test. Not fun in the least. I had to fast for 12 hours, drink a really nasty sugary drink and then get my blood drawn every hour for 3 hours. The babies certainly started dancing about a hour after I drank the drink though. It must have been a shock to their system. It was nice to just sit and read for 3 hours, but I really missed Adia. She gave me the biggest hug when I got home and we had lunch. Adia didn't want DiDi to leave, but we reassured her that she'd see her again soon.

Wednesday was out usual swimming night. Adia took a bath in the afternoon that was almost a hour long! She certainly loves the water. We then went to the grocery store and Adia fell asleep on the ride home. I knew she needed her rest so I made dinner and Daddy and I ate. I didn't wake Adia up until right before it was time to leave. I packed her food for the car, but she didn't want to eat it. She couldn't wait to swim and see Papa and Gramma. She was also super happy that Eck was sitting next to her in the van. She had a blast swimming, even though the kiddie pool was closed when we got there. She rode on top of Papa in an inner tube, over the waves. She thought it was great. Then it was water slide time. By then the kiddie pool was open again, but it was cold. Adia enjoyed pulling Papa around the pool and riding on his back until it was time to leave. She didn't want to leave, but we enticed her with a warm shower and a trip to Red Robin.

She ate her snacks in the car on the way to Red Robin and then devoured her burger and apples too! The waiter and manager kept saying how cute she was and the manager blew up a balloon just for her. Adia was so happy. She didn't want to leave or say goodbye to everyone. When we got home it was definitely books and bed because it was so late. She ended up sleeping until 8:30 this morning! She was one tired little girl.
