Easter Weekend: part 1

Adia and I headed back to the coast on Friday afternoon. Adia kept talking about DiDi and going to her house to play with toys. She was super excited. She went nuts when we got in the door and discovered the piggie was there too. Adia immediately demanded I hold piggie so she could give her cuddles.

DiDi came home not long after that. I had to go to Freddies to buy a new windshield wiper. Mine fell apart on the drive over. Adia didn't want to ride in the cart, but wouldn't stay close without riding. It was awful. We managed to get out of the store in one piece, but it wasn't easy. We came home and ate dinner. Adia couldn't wait to have some ice cream for dessert. She took a bath, played a bunch and then we climbed into DiDi's bed to read books. DiDi read her "10 Apples Up On Top" for the first time and Adia became a big fan.

Adia wouldn't sleep in DiDi's bed, but wanted to sleep in her own bed. DiDi has a twin mattress on the floor just for Adia. She fell asleep there and slept until 1:30. When she woke up, she climbed into bed with me and was up again at 4:30 asking for water. I had to trek all the way to the kitchen to get her some since I forgot to do it before bed. She did sleep in a bit and then mauled DiDi with love in the morning. After breakfast and showers, I called Gramma and Papa and let them know there was an Easter Egg hunt in the park. They arrived shortly after that.

I didn't know how Adia would do at the egg hunt. She's never experienced anything like that before. She hated waiting for it to start. She waited behind the line with Gramma, but soon got scared by all the commotion and only wanted me. I joined her and soon the hunt began. Adia did really well picking up eggs. She didn't win any special prizes, but she liked the eggs. I was confused why they filled the 1-2 year old group's eggs with hard candy and gum though. She couldn't eat any of it, but the eggs were a good enough prize for her.

Adia was soon begging to play on the playground. There was an ice cold wind, but it hadn't started raining yet. She played and played and even convinced Gramma to go down the slide too. Then she played in the sand with DiDi and Papa.

It started to rain so we had to head back to the house. We had lunch at A&W with Gramma, Papa and DiDi. Adia ate most of her hot dog before asking for some of Gramma's ice cream. I was really proud of her. We went back home and Adia took a LONG nap. While she was napping, I made Papa's birthday cake. When Adia woke up, she got to lick the chocolate ganache beaters. She was a very happy girl about that. She's my little chocoholic.

After dinner and a bath, Adia was begging for bed again. She went to bed pretty easily and I hoped she would sleep well. I knew she was going to have a long, napless day the next day.

Portraits

I had every intention of taking Adia to get her portraits done yesterday, but she was in no mood. I made a morning appointment, hoping Adia would be rested and happy and possibly cooperative. She actually fell asleep in the car on the way to get her pictures done yesterday. This was her waking up after I sat in the car for 45 minutes.

The portraits turned out fabulous today. I had hard time getting out of the house on time, but Adia didn't fight getting her dress on. She actually seemed excited. I asked her if it was a dancing dress since that's what she normally calls dresses. She said, "No, it's a picture taking dress." I thought that was cute. She requested to take Purple with her so he came too. He didn't get in any of the picture, but he watched.

Adia was perfect during pictures. The photographer posed her and Adia stayed. She didn't complain or try to run off. She occasionally seemed a bit shy, but not too bad. She smiled for almost every shot too after some coaxing by tickles. It was so hard to pick pictures, even though I knew I was getting a cd made no matter what.

While I was picking pictures, Adia played with toys. After a few minutes, she came over to me and said, "I poopy. Change me." She most definitely had pooped. I had to finish picking out pictures before I could change her. I felt bad, but there was no other choice. All my diaper changing stuff was in the van.

Adia was more than ready to leave. We got back in the van and she climbed into the back seat and laid down. She cooperated totally to get changed and went back to throw the diaper away. Then she climbed in her seat with Purple and settled in for a long drive. We had to go back to the dealership to return the "LATCH" system they sent. In fact, it wasn't a LATCH system, but just the tethers which are not really compatible with our car. Considering we paid quite a bit for them, I was pretty ticked off last night.

Note to car buyers with children: LATCH systems CANNOT be retrofitted on vehicles. The only ones that can are some VWs and Audis. Many vehicles can be retrofitted to have anchors for tethers placed. Our new van isn't one of them. It only has two LATCH systems and 3 tether anchors. That still bothers me considering it's a 7 passenger van AND a 2007. It annoys me greatly.

Anyway, Adia and I drove back. I returned the parts and they're mailing us a check. Then it was back in the car and back home. Adia played and watched Care Bears. She was in a really good mood. Daddy got up earlier than normal and he loved seeing the pictures. Adia was obviously very tired and was asking for a bath and bed before dinner was even over. She took her bath and then played on our bed while I packed for this weekend. Then she jumped into her bed and had Daddy read some stories to her. When I joined them, we didn't end up reading many more. She was just too tired. She made sure she gave my belly plenty of hugs and kisses before she fell asleep.

All Adia could talk about before falling asleep was seeing DiDi, Gramma, Papa and Colie this weekend. She's super excited and can't wait for DiDi to ride in the new van with her.

So much..

Sorry it's been so long between posts. Adia hasn't been very cooperative when it comes to the camera. This is actually what she does when she sees it.

She puts something in front of her face or turns away or runs. She's become a camera hater and it's just one of the many reasons we have yet to take her for her 2 year portraits.

DiDi came up this last weekend. Adia was so happy to see her, but not so happy that she realized DiDi was taking piggie home with her. Adia was on the war path when it came to piggie. She kept poking her and putting toys in her cage. I was worried she was going to hurt piggie so we just couldn't keep her any longer. I was sad to see her go, but we got plenty of snuggle time in. We did a bunch of running around town with DiDi on Saturday. Adia fell asleep in the car and slept a while after we got home. Saturday night she let DiDi read her books before bedtime and then snuggled up with me to fall asleep.

On Sunday we went out for breakfast. Adia chowed down. She loves scrambled eggs, ham and grapes. They are most definitely her favorite things.

After breakfast we made a quick run to Target to see if the bath crayons were finally in stock. They were! Then it was off to the mall. Adia actually asked to go there. She picked out a new book and then we went to the play area.

The only way we could get her to leave the play area was to entice her with Orange Julius. As usually she stole mine. When I asked her to share, she quickly tried to down the whole thing. That ended in a brain freeze and we couldn't help laughing.

DiDi was super nice and bought Adia a caramel apple. Adia fell asleep on the way back home though and wasn't happy at all when she woke up to a missing DiDi and piggie. In order to cheer her up, we went outside to play. It was a very hot and sunny day so it was perfect for chalk drawing and playing on the playground.

Adia asked to play soccer, something that I'm no longer able to do. We woke Daddy up and begged him to come outside and play. He did and Adia was super happy.

I brought some snacks outside and Adia came running. She loves craisins and even asks for them by name. She quickly stole the bag and ate them all.

Monday was another nice day outside. Daddy, Adia and I went outside to kill some time. That afternoon we were going to test drive a van. We played on the playground and Adia had a blast. She stopped dead in the tracks when she saw Gramma and Papa drive by.

We played in the grass with Gramma and Papa until it was time to leave.

Adia was great at the dealership. Papa and Gramma kept her entertained and she loved checking out all the vehicles. She especially liked the van we ended up buying. She didn't want to get out of it and keeps asking to sit in the very back. After signing the paperwork, he went out to eat. I think we had the best burgers we've ever had. Adia enjoyed hers a bunch too.

Adia fell asleep on the ride home and was cranky when she woke up. We cheered her up with ice cream though. She kept feeding Papa her ice cream and then she'd laugh.

It was bath time when we got home. She took her bath, Gramma and Papa said goodbye and it was bedtime. Adia was crazy when she first got out of the tub. She was naked and running laps in the living room. I thought it would be midnight before she fell asleep. Surprisingly, she was out by 9.
