Eye Exercises

We did Adia's eye exercises after dinner tonight. She was really good at threading the Perky-Os onto the crochet hook. She really seemed to be enjoying it too. Her concentration was awesome and we laughed every time she went cross eyed. It was tough work! When she finally tired of the "game" we let her stop. I never saw either eye veer off the entire time.

Shaggy

Gamma and Papa arrived Monday afternoon, not long before DiDi came back from the dentist. Adia went nuts when she saw them. She immediately grabbed Gamma's purse and searched through it. She was surprised to see DiDi walk in the door next. She didn't know who to snuggle with and spend time with. When it was time to leave, Adia didn't want to ride in our car, but refused to be separated from DiDi. DiDi rode next to Adia in our car.

We went to Costco. Adia didn't want to ride in the cart, but also didn't want to ride on Papa's shoulders. She ended up riding in the basket of the cart instead. When there wasn't much in there, she was fine. She actually thought it was pretty cool because she kept seeing wild birds hopping and flying around. She must have thought it was like a trip to the zoo. When the cart started to fill, Adia said, "I'm out of room!" She wasn't happy to be surrounded by boxes. She enjoyed sitting on a box instead.

We went to lunch at Red Robin and then to play at the mall. Adia had a blast. She had an Orange Julius while DiDi and I looked at the guinea pigs in the pet store. I'd been showing DiDi the same pig for the last couple days. She ended up getting it, even though it was obviously very young and very pregnant. Adia loved the piggie. She wanted to keep it. Adia fell asleep on the car ride home. She ended up sleeping from 6pm - 7 am! She was not a happy camper when she woke up to find no DiDi and no piggie. She was looking for both of them.

Adia had an eye doctor appointment on Tuesday. We had a picture of Adia's wandering eye and the doctor finally saw what we had been talking about during the exam. The weird part was in the picture, it's her left eye that's wandered out and during the exam, it was her right eye. She let us know that since it's happening with both eyes, it's actually better than one eye. That means she's not favoring one eye over the other and it only happens when she's tired or gets bored. She'll bring the eye right back when you get her attention back. She'll go back to the eye doctor in 3 months to see if it's changed any. Until then we have to do eye exercises with her and every time we notice her doing it, we have to get her attention and make her bring the eye back.
Adia had her first haircut today. I've been trying to grow her bangs out so they'll be the same length as the rest of her hair, but after today, we'd both had enough. She refused to keep a clip in and they won't stay out of her face otherwise. I set her up on the bathroom counter, grabbed the scissors and comb and took a deep breath. Daddy woke up before I made my first cut and tried to get Adia to hold still. It didn't work very well, but I did a pretty good job considering I had a moving target with curly hair. I wasn't so sure what I thought about it at first, but it's definitely growing on me. I think Adia likes it too since it's not in her face anymore.

After her haircut, we went to the mall to hopefully burn up some of her excess energy. She's been a terror all day. While I was washing dishes this afternoon, Adia found a crayon and colored her entire table and part of one of my clean shirts. It was bad and she even apologized profusely while I cleaning it up. While I was cleaning up the hair in the bathroom and putting it in her baby book, Adia started screaming. Scott told her to put a sock in it. This is how she responded:

Adia had a blast in the play area. She made a new friend and they played chase. Adia even started yelling her name. When her new friend left, Adia started crying. She didn't want to see her go. To cheer her up, we let her ride on the ice cream truck. She climbed in and asked for "bunny money." She climbed in the train after she truck was finished and asked for more bunny money.

We told her we would ride the escalator instead. She loved that and then it was onto the pet store. Adia loved checking out all the animals, but was quickly sidetracked by Orange Julius. We shared a Merry Berry while watching a guy fly remote controlled helicopters. It's become a ritual. She then wanted to hug the bear, get a free sample and beg for an M&M caramel apple. We keep telling her to wait for DiDi this weekend and she might get her wish.

Daddy and Adia got the mail on the way back to the house. It was Adia's lucky day because she had a package from her Secret Santa. She was so excited. She also hadn't napped all day so her excitement soon turned into a meltdown because Mommy needed to make dinner. She ate a little bit of dinner, took a bath and hung out for a little bit before she was desperate for bed. We read her giant stack of books and she fell asleep the second I opened the cover of her last book, "Goodnight Moon." I love it when she falls asleep like that.

20 months old

I haven't been very good about taking pictures lately and we've mostly been recovering from being sick. Adia and I are still coughing and her nose is still running. She did get her flu shot on Friday though. I didn't want to risk her getting the flu and I've already had my shot. There were other kids in the waiting room when we got there and they were climbing on furniture and bouncing off the walls, literally. Adia's eyes got huge and gave me a look like, "Are they crazy?!" She ended up watching the fish tank so she could avoid the other kids.

Luckily, we got called back almost immediately. As soon as Adia saw the nurse, she stopped dead in her tracks and started saying, "No, no, no!" I think she knew that was about to happen. She threw a fit when I tried to get her on the table and pull down her jeans a bit. We finally managed it and I wrapped her in a huge hug. Her eyes were huge. She knew what was about to happen. When the nurse stuck the needle in, Adia said, "Owwie! Ow! Ow! Ow!" and then started crying, big tears streaming down her face. Once We had her pants back up and I was holding her, she stopped making noise, but there were still tears. That changed when she realized her nose was running. She hates snot on her face. She said, "Nose?" and grabbed her face. The nurse was nice enough to hand me a tissue and Adia was quickly bad to herself. She got a sticker, which she destroyed in the car, but also didn't want to leave. She just wanted to play in the waiting room since the other kids were now gone. The only way I could convince her to leave was to promise some playtime at the mall.

showing off her bandaid

She had a great time at the mall, came home and promptly fell asleep. She woke up around the same time as Daddy. She jumped up when she saw him and followed him into the bathroom. You would never have been able to guess she had a shot, except that she was still spotin' the bandaid. She was super silly and wanted to "wash hands."

The rest of the day was pretty laid back. We had dinner, bath time and she went to bed pretty early. She was up bright and early on Saturday though and was not happy to not have Daddy. He had some weird hours thanks to the football game. We got ready for the day and headed to the mall. She played hard and wasn't intimidated by all the kids at the mall. I always forget that Saturday is a horrible mall day. We stopped by Old Navy for more pants for Adia and even went to the bookstore. Adia picked out an Elmo Moon book. She's totally into all things moon right now. She looks for it every time we walk outside too. I was hoping she'd stay asleep in the car, but of course, all the times getting her in and out of the car made that impossible. Then add that the sky decided to dump made it even harder to keep her asleep. She weathered it like a true Oregonian though. She loves the rain. When she saw it was raining, she started yelling, "it rainin!" and "It's wet."

We had lunch when we got home and I never managed to get to back to napping. She was super happy to see Daddy when we went to pick him up though. Too bad he had to go right to bed and had no time to play. We had an evening of just the two of us. Adia was happy to have french toast for dinner and stayed in the bath tub for 30 minutes. I got her to bed relatively early and she was still asleep when DiDi arrived. She woke up when we both went to bed though. She gave DiDi the longest hug when she realized she was here. She didn't want to go back to bed, but exhaustion finally caught her.

Adia woke up looking for DiDi. She was more than happy to spend the morning with DiDi so I could sleep in. After I got up, we went back to Verizon to exchange Daddy's phone. He only had it 6 days before the phone went bonkers and broke. We easily exchanged it once the guy turned it on and noticed that the screen had a serious problem. We then went over to Oakway to buy Adia more pants, get lunch and some ice cream. We ate at Chapala. Adia loved her chicken quesadilla and rice. She was even happier when we got ice cream. She picked pumpkin. I think it was the first time Adia devoured a flavor she chose. Adia didn't want to leave the fountain to check out Old Navy, but DiDi finally persuaded her. DiDi bought Adia some more pants, this time in the size smaller than the ones I bought the day before. I bought Adia 18-24 months, thinking they would fit. Wrong! DiDi had to roll up the waist band so Adia wasn't constantly tripping over them and they were falling down. DiDi grabbed the same fleece pants in 12-18 months and they look like they'll fit much better. Adia was happy to pick out new clothes, but also fancied a purple hippo. I bought her the purple hippo, which she now calls "Purple." He's another critter to add to the bed. Last night we slept with Elmo, Cookie Monster, Baby and Purple. It was a little crowded.

Adia still wanted to play so we headed to the mall. Sunday was just as crazy as Saturday and we had trouble finding a parking place. She loves riding in DiDi's stroller and made sure to bring Purple with her. She played for a long time, managing not to get injured. Then she rode the ice cream truck, followed by the escalator with DiDi. We stopped at the pet store. Adia wanted a cat, but wasn't interested in the Pugle, even though it was interested in her. On our way passed the candy store, Adia had to hug her bear. DiDi wanted to buy her an M&M caramel apple, but they were sold out! On our way by the bookstore, Adia made a detour inside. She wouldn't let us leave without getting a book. She picked out a Thomas the Tank Engine book and also some Dr. Seuss books. DiDi's keeping them until Christmas though.

We came home and Adia was very very tired. She snuggled up with DiDi and all her required critters and fell asleep. She woke up while I was starting dinner and had a fit. She cried for the longest time and nothing would calm her. I hate nights like that. She was silly at dinner and took a bath, but it took forever to get her to bed. I ended up falling asleep too.

DiDi's at the dentist now. Adia wasn't happy when she left, even though we kept telling her she'd be back soon. Gamma and Papa are headed this way too. Adia's been asking for Papa since she saw his picture yesterday.
