The Tank

Gampa G and Scott have started calling Adia "The Sherman Tank". It's actually a very fitting name for her. She climbs over EVERYTHING like it's not even there. Eeyore no longer guards the kitchen entrance because he barely slows her down. Toys in front of her. No problem, up and over she goes. Laying on the floor. Your just a small speed bump that doesn't even register. It's crazy! She's also pulling up on everything too. I'm waiting for her to be able to climb on the couch. She can easily go from sitting, crawling, standing and back again without even blinking an eye. It's like she's been doing it for years.

Today was spent with Gampa G. We ate breakfast together and Adia was actually interested in eating. She mostly ate cheerios and my instant oatmeal, but I got a few bites of baby oatmeal and pears in her. Then she turned into cranky pants, so it was nap time. She slept for a good hour and woke happy and refreshed. It was terrific. I cleaned out her toy basket while she attacked me. I tried playing with her, but she deliberately turned her back on me.

We've been trying to limit her TV time because she's very much a floor tater tot. It's awful how addicted she already is. You can see her brain shut down every time she looks at it. She did get cranky again though so I put on Lilo and Stitch for background noise. She ended up falling asleep with a bottle in Gampa G's lap. I think he was surprised at how little maintenance she was today. She mostly played by herself and slept. Not really demanding for much of the time. She was also in a really silly mood.

Gampa G left after Scott got home and we headed out for dinner. Adia was good a dinner, but also incredibly loud. If I didn't feed her yogurt fast enough or give her cheerios quick enough, she started babbling at the top of her lungs. It wasn't too quiet in the restaurant, but she was audible enough. She finished her entire yogurt without making too big a mess. The cheerios and puffs are another story. When Scott picked her up, she had at least a dozen stuck to her butt. And the floor! I'm really surprised she managed to eat any of them. I really felt bad for the mess she left. At least they're easy to clean up.

Adia almost fell asleep on the car ride home. Scott stripped her down to a diaper when we got home to get ready for her bath, but she wasn't interested in bathing. She wanted to play. We played for at least 30 minutes and had a blast. I even turned on Adia's Christmas cd and she started dancing. She really loves music.

She started to get a little cranky so we headed to the bathroom. She stood next to the tub and watched the water before trying to take off to investigate the toilet. She doesn't stay put for long. She had fun in the tub. She probably would have stayed in longer, but she kept trying to stand up. Scott picked her up and tossed her hooded towel over her head. Apparently it wasn't the best toss because it was nearly backwards and she couldn't see at all. Scott took her out to the living room while I cleaned up the bathroom. Seconds later I heard giggling, coming from Scott. Adia was trying to crawl around with the towel in front of her face. She was also trying to pull it off her head, but she was pulling it farther down her face. Her top half was completely covered, but her butt was sticking out.

Once he finally got her dried off and dressed, he handed her to me on the couch. She snuggled up and drank her bottle. She was out cold by 9:30. Since I'm still not supposed to be picking her up and carrying her, Scott carefully picked her up and took her to the crib. She didn't wake when Scott laid her down so we thought we were good for the night. We weren't. 15 minutes later she was up again. I carefully picked her up and burped her. She let out two HUGE burps and started to go back to sleep. I had her out again, but it was nearly impossible for me to lay her back down. She woke the second she hit the mattress. Then she was Scott's responsibility. I haven't checked, but I think they're both asleep on the floor of Adia's room.

Hopefully she has a good night tonight. Tomorrow is her second flu shot and then I have a post op appointment. We also have a million errands to run.

We stayed in the house today since we're having a lovely, windy, rainy storm. Adia discovered the Christmas cactus and tried to eat it. She also learned that she can crawl right over Eeyore. He doesn't stop her at all anymore so we'll have to find another way to keep her out of the kitchen. She's getting really good at standing too. She stood up, just using the wall for balance. I'm betting she'll be walking very very soon.

She's liked having DiDi here, but DiDi has to go home tomorrow. Adia woke DiDi up this morning by repeating "Hi" over and over again until DiDi opened her eyes. Once her eyes were open, Adia grinned huge. She's really going to miss DiDi, especially since Adia won't be able to "help" her grade homework anymore.

She was very happy to see Scott. She had been saying "Dada?" before he got home. When he got home, it was "Dadadadada!" and arms in the air. When he walked down the hall and into the bedroom, she got really upset while sitting on DiDi's lap. Then she said something that sounded a lot like, "Where Dada?"

For dinner she actually ate some real yams, not just the pureed stuff. She liked it at first, but got cranky. Then it was food everywhere. We were a sticky, yogurt mess again. Scott washed her off in the bathtub and then handed her to DiDi. She was a good girl for DiDi and was easily dressed. Then it was back to crawling around the living room and trying to head to the kitchen.

Squirrels!

Adia spent yesterday with Gampa G and DiDi arrived last night. She was in no mood to go to bed early, but DiDi wrestled her to sleep at 11. She slept pretty well, but had a massive blowout. Neither DiDi or Adia woke when it happened so it was an even bigger mess. Adia was playing with DiDi in her room when I got up. She was happy to see me, but more interested in getting into trouble.

Adia was wearing her squirrel pants today and they were rather fitting for what appeared on our deck. A SQUIRREL! Adia was the one who noticed it too. DiDi was holding her in the living room when Adia did a 180, just to look at the deck. That's when DiDi noticed there was something on the deck as well. We all ended up in the kitchen, staring at the squirrel. Adia was so excited. She sat down with her hands on the glass and was careful not to make any sudden, loud movements. She even started making a noise very similar to the noise squirrel makes. That made the squirrel move even closer to the glass. Adia loved every minute of it. I threw some peanuts onto the deck to keep it around longer and after finishing those, I tried some mixed nuts. I guess he was full because he tried burring an almond under the trash can. Adia was sad to see him go, but crawled over to her toy basket and pulled out her stuffed squirrel! Certainly not what DiDi was expecting and neither was I.

I then took my shower and when I got out, Adia was eating instant oatmeal with DiDi. She was very happy to be eating big people food. She also ate some cheerios. After her little meal, she explored the living room some more. Everything was fine until she tried to get to me on the couch. She fell over the body pillow and landed in the gap between the futon mattress and the couch. She was stuck, on her head and I can't lift her. DiDi came running and rescued her. Then it was a bottle and a nap for Adia. Both of us were surprised she fell asleep since we had no idea she was that hungry or tired.

She didn't sleep long so we headed to Costco. It was my first trip out of the house since surgery and it went pretty well. It was COLD outside though and we ran into someone from the coast. Apparently there was snow in Florence today and the system is headed our way. Maybe Adia will get some snow. I can only imagine what she'd think of that. Adia got plenty of goodies at Costco, but it was all stuff she needed, diapers, wipes and a new sleeper. DiDi also got her a set of books that Adia went nuts over. We were in and out of Costco pretty quickly, which is amazing on a Saturday.

Then we made a quick stop at Safeway. Adia was out of Yobaby! That's never good since it's the one food she eats daily. She rode in the cart for part of the trip, but didn't last. She was happy to go home. She kept trying to eat my yogurt so we thought she might be hungry. She ended up eating chicken, cheerios, cranberry sauce and some bagel. DiDi couldn't feed her cranberry sauce fast enough. She liked it at Thanksgiving and I guess it hasn't changed. She was then acting tired, but when DiDi picked her up, she noticed an off smell. Adia had another blowout! It was nasty and a two person job. I got Adia laughing, but she was mad when we dressed her. She definitely prefers being naked, but her mommy was the same way as a child. The funniest part of the whole diaper change was Adia still trying to drink her bottle while DiDi tried to clean her off. She did abandon the bottle though. After DiDi read her a book and fed her, she did fall asleep. DiDi was even able to lay her down in her crib.

Adia woke up right after Scott got home. She was crying in her crib and it was heartbreaking. Scott rescued her, but she was looking for DiDi. She played for a little bit, but then it was dinnertime. She ate yogurt, cheese and cheerios. Mostly she just made a mess. She wasn't too hungry after everything she ate earlier and preferred being the center of attention. She got yogurt everywhere when she grabbed the spoon. She was completely sticky and shared it with me. She even got it in her hair so a hair washing was needed.

Bath time was fun. She was in a really good mood. Mostly she just wanted to eat the washcloth, but played with her cups too. When it came time to wash her hair, Scott called in DiDi. He did it yesterday, but she hates getting her hair washed. Her new favorite toy in the tub us the lever you pull to drain the water. I always get worried when she grabs it because it's right under the faucet. We used to use the duckie faucet cover, but the faucet looks like it's barely attached to the wall. We don't want to risk pulling the faucet out of the wall so the faucet cover remains as a toy. After getting her hair washed, Scott took her. Adia was happy until it was time to dress her. Then she bonked her head on the counter and started screaming. DiDi took her and brought her to the living room. Once in the living room, she was happy again.

Grand High Priestess of the Duckie, according to Scott

Now she's playing with a toy she hasn't seen in several weeks. It goes with her high chair, but it's been a long time before she's needed it. Now she can have fun with it in the living room. She loves it. Hopefully she'll go to bed easily tonight. 11 was a little late last night, but she did sleep well. I also hope there are no more poopies. Her butt is looking very sore and red, despite frequent applications of desitin.
