Long Day

Adia slept horribly again last night. She woke up constantly, crying again. Scott went to bed early last night so he took her when she got up at 7. She was happy to have her daddy, but I did wake up a couple hours later to "Mamama!" I guess she wanted someone and was telling them about it. I got up at 9ish. Adia was happy to see me. She did the whole outstretched arm thing. I grabbed myself something to eat and she kept opening her mouth every time I took a bite. I thought maybe she was hungry too so I put her in the high chair. She happily ate fruit cheerios and yogurt. She finished off the yogurt and didn't want to stop eating cheerios.

I call this one, "The Thinker." She's really staring at the kitchen light.

After her brunch, I got her dressed. She fought the whole time. She hates getting dressed and can actually get herself undressed now. Her specialty is taking off her diaper the moment she's gotten it on. It's definitely become a game. We were then headed out the door to look at sofas. We can't keep ours since she can get stuck under it and Tanae uses it like a jungle gym. Some one's going to get seriously injured on it.

The first place we stopped had a good selection and Adia made googly eyes at the sales lady. Adia also enjoyed all the sofas we sat on. She likes the ones with the cushy sides. There were two sofas there that I really liked, but it's going to be a few days, if not weeks before we buy anything. The next place we stopped was HORRIBLE. The place smelled like cat pee. It was disgusting. The third place wasn't much better either and nothing was very appealing. The last place we stopped was way overpriced. Definitely not going to happen, but Adia made the salespeople fall in love with her. She was in a particularly good mood by then because she had passed out hard in the car. One moment she was staring, with a glazed over expression, and the next she was totally out. She actually slept through getting in and out of the car twice before waking up again. She was all smiles at that point. We ended up heading home, knowing our sofa was going to come from the first place we looked.

shopping is hard work

Adia was acting really silly when we got home. I fed her a bottle and she was ready to roll again, literally. She played on the floor for a little while and eventually took off. She's been getting on her hands and knees all day, put still hasn't figured out the crawl. She takes little leaps instead. Today though, she managed to go from belly to sitting. I cheered when it happened and she looked at me like I was crazy. She then proceeded to inchworm/leap/roll across the living room. First she went to the toy bench and then she headed for her jumperoo. She ended up underneath it, trying to grab an Eeyore toy. She looked so accomplished when she reached it.

That's when we decided to go for a walk. We bundled Adia up and headed out. Scott wanted to take the bike trail by the river and I've never walked it so we went on it. It was beautiful out and Adia was kicking her feet. I took lots of pictures. We showed Adia all the ducks and the nutria. She was staring at the trees. She LOVES trees. She just stares at them in awe. When we were almost halfway, she started fussing and crying. She hadn't had a very good nap all day so we knew she was tired. We took her out of the stroller for a little while and traded back and forth. She liked the different vantage point. When we were almost halfway home, we put her back in the stroller. In just a few minutes, she was fast asleep. We made it all the way home with no problems. I took her out of the stroller and put her in her crib and she slept for another 45 minutes while I made dinner and talked with Scott.

She woke up extremely cranky and disoriented. She just kept crying and wouldn't stop unless I was holding her. I managed to get her to eat a couple bites of yogurt, but she just kept crying. I took her into the bathroom while Scott cleaned up the kitchen. She calmed a little bit, but still wouldn't let me set her down. I did everything holding her, which wasn't very easy. I decided to take her temperature too while I was holding her. It came back as a slight fever so that could explain some of the crankiness. I think she's getting whatever I had. Scott came into the bathroom just as I was needing help into the bathtub. He held her while I climbed in, a pout on her face the whole time. She was very happy in the tub though. She splashed like crazy and would turn and smile and Scott or me. It was so sweet. She grabbed the side of the tub when she wanted out and Scott grabbed her. He dressed her and then brought her out to the living room.

Adia was in a much better mood, but wasn't ready to settle down and sleep. She played for a little bit before fussing again. I cuddled her while she finished off 6oz and then 1.5 more. She was definitely making up for today. She was out cold by 9pm and I successfully laid her in her crib by 9:30. I'm thinking it will be a good night because she ate so much before bed. I just hope it is. She seems to sleep better when we go for walks. She likes the fresh air.

Adia slept with us last night after waking up at 11:30. She woke up every hour, crying and it was nearly impossible to get her back to sleep. Scott got up with her around 7:30. I got up at 9:30. Adia was happy to see me. She had taken a brief 30 minute nap earlier, but was still kind of cranky. We spent most of the day trying to get her to sleep. Scott did manage to get her to take a small nap around noon, but it was pretty obvious that she woke up too soon.

Adia and I took a bath right before her nap. She was in a silly mood and really wanted Mommy. She splashed like crazy and just had fun. It was mostly a play day for her. During the hour before dinner, Scott, Adia and I played. She was still being really silly and Scott and I ended up in hysterics. Adia has the funniest sense of humor. She's quickly earning the nickname Little Comedian. I set the small metal mixing bowl on her head and she quickly pulled it off. She thought it was the funniest thing when Scott put it on his head. Then we tried the same thing with the green bucket. She was able to pull it off, all by herself. Scott and I then laid on the floor and Adia climbed all over us. She LOVED it. She was so happy.

Her happiness continued into dinner. She ate 1/2 a yogurt, 1/2 a container of sweet potatoes and a bunch of fruity cheerios. She kept laughing at Scott even though you could see how sleepy she was. I really thought she was going to nod off while eating. She did really well picking up cheerios today and seemed very proud of herself. She was also taking huge bites of food. I couldn't feed her fast enough. Her eyes lit up when she saw the bottle of fluoride. She really loves that stuff and it's made it easier to give her Tylenol too.

Concentrating on cheerios

Bath time was a little different tonight. We tried to do three in a tub and it just didn't work. Our tub is barely big enough for 1 1/2, adding Scott just didn't work. Adia was happy to have him in with her, but she didn't have quite enough room to splash and play. The second she got out, she was splashing away. She also had fun with mirror baby before her bath. It let me know that I really need with clean the mirror. Her whole little corner is covered in baby goo. Scott diapered and dressed her. She fought it as best she could.

Scott then gave her to me for a bottle and bed. She passed out nearly immediately so I had to carefully wake her to drink more. She only ended up drinking 4oz. I tried laying her down and she woke crying within seconds. After multiple attempts, I gave up and brought her back to the living room. She's asleep on top of me right now. I'm really really really hoping for a good night tonight.

Happy 8 Months!

Adia turned 8 months today and she started it wonderfully by sleeping straight through the night in the crib. She woke up crying though. When I went in to get her, she was laying on her stomach. She loves to sleep on her stomach now and prefers it to any other position. I picked her up and the second she was against me I noticed she was wet. She had peed out her diaper. No wonder she woke up when she did. I stripped her pjs off and opened her diaper, only to be confronted by slimey poop. I guess she had also pooped sometime recently. I cleaned her up, put her in a long sleeved onesie and grabbed a bottle. I was hoping she'd go back to sleep so I took her back to bed with me. Instead she was up for the day.

She played on the floor for a bit, but started to get cranky pretty quick. I held her for a little bit, but she kept trying to get back on the floor. This time she was happy to be on the floor. She took off towards her toy bucket and then headed back in my direction. She started playing under my feet and trying to get back under the couch. She was not happy when I moved her. She then wanted to jump. I set her in the jumperoo. She was so happy to be jumping that I took the opportunity to take a shower. She was fine until I started getting dressed. I guess it doesn't matter where she is, she still cries when I get dressed no matter what.

I tried to get her to take a nap since she was obviously tired. I finally got her to sleep after drinking 5oz and laying her on her stomach. I was then able to move her to the floor. She slept for almost a hour and would have slept lots longer, but a sunbeam hit her in the face. There were no smiles when she woke up, but she also wouldn't go back to sleep.

We played for a little while, but I thought she might enjoy going outside for a bit. I wanted to get some good 8 month pictures of her anyway. I dressed her warmly since it's been so cold lately and we headed out the door. It hadn't been long since the sun woke her, but it was already gone. It was overcast and very chilly. Adia didn't mind. I set a blanket in the grass for her along with a few toys. She quickly forgot about the toys and only wanted to pull the grass and eat it. She even managed to grab a big chunk of dirt. I started to get cold and she was starting to crawl off the blanket so we grabbed the mail and headed inside.

handful of dirt

Once inside I was able to snuggle her up in a blanket and get her to fall back to sleep. She woke up prematurely again and started whining and crying. It was awful. She didn't want to be held, but she also didn't want to be on the ground. Eventually I was able to get her to go back to sleep and she slept until Scott got home. She was completely disoriented when she saw him. There was no smile, just more of a "where did you come from" look.

It was then time to head to the store. Adia rode in the Kozy and watched everyone around her. Several people said she was adorable and she milked it for all it was worth. She only got fussy when we put her back in the car seat. She was hungry and tired since it was already after dinnertime. When we got back, Scott stripped her while I put the groceries away. Adia then ate fruity cheerios, 1/2 a yogurt and a few bites of sweet potato. She has improved greatly at picking up the cheerios and was also really excited to see them. I now know I can only put a maximum of two on her tray though, otherwise she'll stuff them all in. She was in a really goofy mood and kept making us laugh hysterically. That would make her start squealing in glee and it would begin again.

being silly and making faces

After dinner was our usual bath time. I bathed with her and she splashed like a madwoman. I washed her hair, which she wasn't too happy with, but she did let me. Scott was putting the dishes away when it was time to get out of the tub so I did it myself. She was obsessed with mirror baby tonight so it made it easy for me to get partially dressed. After I put on her diaper, I handed her to Scott to put her in pjs.

She didn't want to go to bed right away so we set her on the floor to play. She set off across the floor to grab Scott's laptop cord. I put a few objects in front of it, thinking they would deter her, but I was wrong. She just moved them and grabbed the cord again. I moved her back towards the center of the room and she started crying. Scott made her a bottle in hopes of getting her to sleep, but she wouldn't hold still to drink. A few minutes later we discovered the problem, she had pooped! No one wants to sleep with a poopy diaper. Scott cleaned her up and brought her back out to the living room. He gave her to me and she gladly took her bottle. Hopefully we have another good sleeping night.
