stroller baby returns

Another rough night with Adia. She woke up at 12 and I didn't hear her, but Scott did. He was still up so he fed her and spent the next hour and a half trying to get her back to sleep. I was awake off and on the whole time. I eventually got up to help him because he was getting so frustrated and she just wanted to play. I rocked her and sang to her for 30 minutes, when she finally went back to sleep. I laid her down and went back to bed. She was awake 5 minutes later. I rocked her again. Nope, not going back to sleep. I took her back to bed with me, fed her an ounce and she went back to sleep, in her crib, at 3am. She slept until 6:30. She woke up screaming, which is rare for her. I brought her to bed with me and she slept until 8:30. Amazingly, this meant I woke up feeling refreshed and she did too.

We got ready for our walk. It's been getting into the high 80s and low 90s lately, so if we're going to walk outside, we have to do it early. She got dressed and sunscreened while sitting on the counter. Then I carried her and the stroller down the stairs and we were off by a little bit after 9. She babbled briefly, but then got sidetracked playing with the sunshade on her stroller. I had to have it all the way forward to keep her the sun off her face. That meant it was in perfect baby reach. I knew she fell asleep though when she put arms above her head. On the way back, the sunshade was back in a more normal position so I could no longer see her inside the stroller. When we got back to the house and I put up the sunshade, Adia had pulled her hat completely down in front of her face. She was fast asleep. I guess it was a great way to keep any unwanted sun out of her eyes. I carried her, stroller and all, up the stairs and into the house. She woke up as soon as we got in the door though.

This picture makes her look a lot bigger than she is.

She woke up happy and kept eyeing her jumperoo. She hadn't had a chance to be in it yet. I set her in it and she immediately started playing and talking to the toys. Since she was so preoccupied, I jumped in the shower. She never complained the entire time. When I got back out to the living room, she was still happily playing, but also grunting. I knew she was working on something. After about 5 minutes she started to complain. I picked her up and, sure enough, she'd left something. When I opened her diaper, I was shocked at how little there was. To my surprise, when I pulled the diaper all the way down, she'd pooped ALL the way up her back. It was to the very tippy top of the diaper. No wonder she'd been upset. It was everywhere on her butt and back. I took two diapers to change her. I had to get rid of the dirty one before I could clean her or she would have gotten it everywhere else too. It was nasty, but at least it didn't smell too bad and it came off easily. She also had missed getting it on her onesie. I'm still not sure how she avoided it.

After the diaper change, she wanted to play some more. I set her on the floor, surrounded by toys. I'm really loving how she can just sit and play for long periods of time. It's making it a lot easier to do chores around the house. She'll actually try to wiggle out of your grip now so she can play. Of course there's still times when it's all about the cuddles. She played by herself for 30 minutes and then finally got hungry. She hasn't been eating much since she started solids. She used to eat 4 oz every 3-4 hours, but now she'll eat 4-5 oz every 5-6 hours. That being said, she drank 10oz between 12am and 6am. I guess she realized she hadn't had her calories yesterday and had to make up for it. I picked her up and she snuggled while she drank almost 6oz. I thought she might be going to sleep, but she opened her eyes HUGE and smiled big at Scott. She played with him on the couch for a few minutes, but then wanted to get back on the floor.

I made lunch while Scott and Adia played. Mostly it was Adia playing and Scott sitting next to her playing video games. She wasn't really into the whole interaction thing at the moment, but wanted him to sit next to her. When it was lunchtime, she sat in her high chair and played with her toys. Of course after seeing us eat, she got hungry. I cuddled up with her on the couch while she ate. Not long after she fell asleep. She slept for over a hour. Her naps are rarely that long. She woke up to Scott getting ready to leave. Luckily she was happy and there was no crying involved. After a few minutes of being slightly disoriented, she wanted back on the floor to play.

We walked to get the mail and when we came back, Adia was being clingy and fussy. I fed her a little bit and it was back to playing. She played long enough for me to fold all the clean laundry that's been piled in my living room for the last 10 days. She even let me put it all away. She had moments where she'd complain and reach for me. I'd pick her up, she'd give me a hug and then go back to playing.

playing on her own

As usual, she started to get cranky around 5:30. I gave her a bottle and she slept until 6:30. Normally she only takes a short catnap before dinner, but I guess she was really tired. She woke up happy, again. It was then dinner time. I stripped her and put her in the high chair. She started smiling and playing with her toys. She didn't end up eating much. Instead I ended up with a screaming baby. I guess she was still tired and just wanted her bath. As soon as a put her in the bebe pod in the bathroom, she started cooing and smiling at mirror baby. Either she was happy to see her again or she knew it was almost bath time.

before dinner catnap

I set up the bathtub. The second I turned on the water, Adia jumped. She does that every time. You'd think that after 6 months, she'd know it was ok. I got her in the tub and she started playing with the cups. I laid her back to wash her hair and she was all smiles. Then she started kicking and splashing with her feet. It didn't last long. As soon as she was back sitting, she wanted out. We did our usual dressing routine. She had a huge grin on her face when I lotioned her up.

Then it was our snuggle with a bottle and bed. She was in her crib by 8:30, and as of 9pm, she hasn't woken back up. Maybe we'll have a good night tonight.

Hey, you think Adia could teach Haydn about that smiling while doing lotion and dressing thing? She's such a good baby.
