Dog days of Summer

Adia seemed to be a little off all day today. I guess that's what happens when you don't sleep very well at night. She started a fairly happy. She had a breakfast of sweet potatoes and a quick clean up in the bathroom, after which I took a shower. She started screaming before my shower was done so afterwards she took a short morning "snap" around 10.

Then she was up and very cranky. I thought I could cheer her up by playing in the mirror. I was right at first. She was being a goofy girl. Talking to the baby in the mirror and smiling up and storm. She was mad she couldn't get close enough while sitting in the bebe pod so I thought we'd do like we did after her bath and she could sit on the counter. I wasn't going anywhere or doing anything so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. (I bet you can imagine where this story is going) She was fine for a bit and then, all of a sudden, she fell sideways, towards the sink. She smacked her neck on the faucet and started wailing. I grabbed her as quick as I could, feeling like a total idiot for not preventing the fall. Luckily I was able to comfort her and no harm was done. She was smiling and babbling within 5 minutes, but I was badly shaken. As soon as she had stopped crying, I was bawling. All the what ifs kept reeling through my head.

Scott got up shortly after that. Adia and I were playing on the floor like nothing had happened, but part of me never wanted to let her go again. She was happy and smiling when she saw him. They played for a bit until I reminded him that we had a BBQ to go to in a couple hours. He took his shower and Adia ended up falling asleep in my lap. She was desperate to snuggle and was very clingy. She slept a long time. I was worried she'd sleep past the time we were planning on leaving and I certainly didn't want to wake her. My dilemma was solved quickly though when there was a loud bang. She jumped awake and started screaming. It's never good to be woken up, but especially like that. She wakes up slowly anyway and is very disoriented at first. Eventually she calmed down and I changed her a got her ready to go.

Mommy and Adia dressed for the BBQ

The BBQ was fun. Adia was shy around all the people at first, but eventually she started babbling away and being her usual flirty self. She was especially curious of the two dachshunds. One of the dachshunds was very curious in return. After we had eat, Scott took Adia to play on the grass. You could tell she was a little surprised at first, but got completely sidetracked when one of the dogs came up to say hi. Scott was right there and I came out with the camera just as the dog got close. I used to have a dachshund and she didn't like kids so I was ready to launch myself if needed. To my surprise, all I ended up with was a GREAT photo op. The dog really liked Adia, even when she grabbed on to an ear. All the dog did was yelp and Scott got her hands off. I will admit though, the dogs were VERY lucky that Adia can't move in her own. She was desperate to chase after them. Maybe next time they won't be able to escape quite so easily.

Sitting in the grass

Meeting a new friend

I drove Scott to work after that and Adia fell asleep in the backseat, holding his hand. She was really confused when we got home and he wasn't there. She is definitely a daddy's girl. Since it was cooler outside, than in the house, I thought we might go for a walk, using out stroller. The one big problem with the stroller though are it's straps were inserted backwards. I bought the display model that was already put together, thinking it would have been put together correctly. I spent the next hour keeping Adia busy (mirror in her crib and jumperoo) while I fixed the straps. I finally fixed them and set her in it to adjust them. She didn't start screaming immediately so I had some hope. We did go for a very short walk to get the mail. The sun kept getting in her eyes and I had forgotten her hat. She almost fell asleep though and if she had had better sun protection, she might have. I'm thinking I should ask for a jogging stroller for my birthday, but I don't know if I really need it. On the days we don't walk on the treadmill we might go for morning walks outside. I know Adia would enjoy it and it would get her used to the stroller. There's no way she can be in the bijorn forever.

When we came back she was sleepy and hungry. She usually has a before dinner nap which was much easier when Scott was still home in the evenings. She drank 3oz and slept in my lap for a good hour. She was cranky when she woke up and I thought some sweet potatoes would fix it. I couldn't have been more wrong. She screamed through dinner, only getting a few bites of sweet potato that she put in her own mouth. She even screamed though getting undressed for her bath. She was fine for a short part of her bath, but it soon become the fastest bath she's ever taken. It couldn't have been much longer than 5 minutes. She did smile when she saw herself in the mirror, but I ended her fun by washing all the sweet potato off her face and getting it out of her nose. After she was dressed and I picked her up, she clung to me like monkey. Her arms were around my neck. I didn't think she was going to let go. I drank 4oz and quickly passed out. It was only 8:15 when I laid her in her crib!

Being happy for a moment. Notice where my hand is.

She woke back up 15 minutes later, but when I picked her up, she let out a huge burp and quieted down. I rocked her back to almost sleeping. That's right, I laid her down drowsy, but not asleep. She didn't move, but closed her eyes and fell asleep. Now lets hope it lasts the night because Mama need (and wants) some rest.
