Party Like it's 2009

Adia's birthday party was on Saturday. She ate breakfast with DiDi while I got busy on her cake. I made chocolate ganache for a the filling and Adia asked to try some. She was hooked. When I had finished with the spatula, I let her take it to lick. She was a very happy camper.

DiDi took Adia to the store to pick up some last minute items for out swimming expedition later and to give me time to finish getting ready. Daddy vacuumed, I showered and cut up a fruit salad. DiDi and Adia got back just as Gramma, Papa and Auntie Colie arrived. It was perfect timing. Adia was so happy to see everyone, but would only let Auntie Colie hold her hand to climb the stairs. We opened presents first while nibbling on some food. Everything was gluten free and the glutino crackers were a hit. Adia thought they were great.

Adia mostly got stickers, which is the best gift ever for her. She also got some of her favorite shows on DVD, more painting paper (which will certainly come in handy) and a train set that she absolutely loves. She calls it her Papa Choo Choo Train.

It was then time for cake, something that Adia's been talking about for days and days. She couldn't wait to blow out the candles and dig in. She wasn't so sure about the whole singing aspect. She got super shy and wanted me to hold her. When the singing was over and we told her it was time for the candles, she blew them out. It took two tries, but she did it all by herself. I was so proud. Such a difference from last year. Once the candles were out, she tried to dig right in.

I think she gave her cake two big thumbs up. She absolutely loved it and ate more than I ever thought she could. She also didn't make much of a mess. Yes, she had some chocolate on her face and hands, but since she insists on using silverware, it wasn't too bad.

After getting her cleaned up. We got ready to go swimming. Adia's also been talking about going swimming for ages, but she had no idea what was in store for her. She nearly fell asleep in the car on the way there, but DiDi kept her awake by putting stickers on the front of a map. The second we got in the door and Adia saw all the pools and people, her eyes got huge and she was on a mission. We couldn't pay and get changed fast enough for her. I brought a waterproof disposable camera with me so I hope to have it developed very soon and have pictures to share, along with some funny stories.
