Happy 2nd Birthday Adia!

Two years ago today, I was in some pretty bad pain. Water was broken and pitocin was started. Not fun, especially when you have no idea how long the pain's going to last. Luckily, it wasn't long. Just six hours of labor after my water was broken and 20 minutes of pushing, Adia was born. I'll never forget that last hour and thinking I'll never make it without drugs, but when your doctor says you can only get an epidural and the thought of needles in your back is worse than pain, you manage. Not to mention, I was in so much pain because I was in transition. Then the urge to push. Wow! It definitely hits you suddenly and no one, and I repeat NO ONE, should tell you to wait. Sorry, but the baby's coming whether you're ready or not.

Adia was born at 2:11pm, weighing 6lbs 4oz and 19 inches long. After being told for weeks and weeks not to expect a baby larger than 5lbs, Adia was a bit of a shock. The doctor still says all her size was in her head, and I agree. Her head dwarfed her body and she was tiny.

Fast forward a year to Adia's first birthday. She seemed so big, so grown up and yet, looking back, I can't believe the difference this last year made. At one year, Adia was only 18lbs and 28 inches. She'd almost tripled her birth weight, but still super tiny. She'd been only walking about 2 weeks on her birthday. Looking back at video, she looks so silly toddling around since she's such an expert walker, climber and runner now.

DiDi was here for Adia's birthday. Since we'd already discovered she had a problem with gluten, I made gluten free brownies with whipped cream for her birthday treat. She wasn't a fan. Actually, at that point, she didn't particularly like any food because of all the weeks of tummy aches. She played with the whipped cream, got it on her nose and then smacked the entire plate on to the ground. It went everywhere!

Now it's been another year. Adia's still tiny, only about 23lbs and loves to talk. She's a real character. DiDi will be here tonight and we're going to dinner for Adia's birthday. Tomorrow's Adia's birthday party. She keeps talking about birthday cake and blowing out candles. I think she's excited.

Daddy brought her flowers this morning when he came home. She was so happy, she loves flowers. I've told him to buy her flowers instead of me because she loves them so much. I made her french toast for breakfast.
