Party Animal

Adia and I woke up at 6:45 this morning after a full night of sleep. It was nice and perfect for a party day. We played a bit, ate breakfast and then took our shower. Adia was being silly and actually let me put on her diaper. I have noticed that she seems to have a problem with the Huggies though. She's got a rash going on her back right where the Huggies elastic hits. When she was in the Parent's Choice diapers, there was no rash. I think we're going to have to change diapers for a little bit. After getting dressed, we headed out to Scott's parents' house. I had cupcakes and a kitchen to decorate.

Adia was happy to see her Gampa, Gamma and Auntie Colie. She played with them while I made buttercream frosting and decorated cupcakes. It was nap time, but she wasn't interested in sleeping. That got me a little worried since I knew she'd have a full blown meltdown by her party time if she didn't get in a nap. Luckily, when she started putting her head on the floor and rubbing her eyes, she eagerly took a bottle and fell asleep on Gamma. She slept for 2 hours in Gamma's lap and woke happy and rested. She was particularly excited to see Scott, who had just arrived from Eugene.

Soon everyone started to arrive. Our friend brought her 3 month old son and Adia didn't know what to make of him. She kept trying to poke him in the face and he just stared at her. He was a sweetie though and gave me lots of smiles. It felt weird to hold such a small baby (12lbs) again even though Adia's not even 18lbs yet. I don't know how I'll do the newborn thing again someday.
We ate lunch first and then opened presents. Adia actually ate some strawberries, grapes, cheese and hamburger. Not very much, but some. She even drank a tiny bit of milk. Adia wasn't so sure about opening presents so I had to help. She wanted to play with everything as soon as it was unwrapped or just go for the tissue. She got some very cute new stuffed animals, a few outfits and an adorable hat. I think she was a little overwhelmed by everything.

After presents it was cake time. We didn't have her high chair or booster so I set her on the floor. (The onesie she's wearing is from the Hard Rock Cafe in Kona, Hawaii. We bought it on our honeymoon) She stuck her finger in the frosting, tried a eat a tiny bit and she was done. She had frosting everywhere, flipped her plate, cupcake landing frosting side down on the floor, and plastered me with it too. She just doesn't like being messy so she had a fit before we put her in the tub. Gampa cleaned up the mess in the kitchen while Scott and I cleaned up Adia.

She was ready to play after her bath and took off. She walks everywhere now and was happy to show off her new found running skills. Unky Eck chased her around a bunch with Adia squealing and giggling the entire time. She met Colie's cat and after being sweet and petting it a bit, she kicked it! That cat is way too trusting. She also met Scott's Aunt and Uncle's dogs. She wasn't so sure about them. She bet Wiley, but would cringe every time he moved or made a noise. At one point she acted like they were chasing her. I'm not sure what she thought of them, but they were pretty good at ignoring each other.

The cutest part of the night though were the hats. When Opa was alive, he collected hate from all over the world in all different types. Berets, fedoras, ski caps, he had a large collection. Those hats her passed on to Unky Eck when Opa died. Scott, Colie and Eck were sorted through them tonight and they happened to bring one hat out and put it on Adia's head. Adia didn't remove the hat immediately and actually got mad when we tried to take it off. She wanted that hat and she was keeping it. I asked Eck if we could keep it and he said that we could. Adia will have that hat the rest of her life. There was one other hat we ended up keeping too because Scott liked it. Eck told us that Adia has to wear it to her first day of Kindergarten. We'll see, it could very easily happen.

Adia started getting cranky around 6:30. She had been great until then. We knew we had to leave to give her a bath and put her to bed. It was sad to say goodbye, but it was certainly time. When we got back to DiDi's, Scott gave Adia a bath and then she played for a little bit. By 8pm she was crying for a bottle. She snuggled with DiDi and was out cold by 8:15. She's laying in bed now, waiting for me. Tomorrow we go to the Aquarium. Adia's never been and we thought she'd love all the animals.
