Aquarium

Sunday was a picture perfect day. Scott, Adia, DiDi and I went to breakfast with Gamma, Scott's Great Grandma and Unky Eck. Adia didn't want to eat much but she enjoyed being the center of attention.

After breakfast, we headed to the aquarium. Adia wasn't quite sure why she was stuck in her carseat, but we kept promising her that we were going somewhere fun. She soon fell asleep. She woke up just as we turned off the highway. She was a little confused at first, but once we let her walk, she was happy. She started pointing at everything and we hadn't even gotten in the doors. Adia's learned some new tricks when it comes to walking. She'll act like she's switching from one of Scott's hands to the other and in the middle of the switch, she lets go and makes a run for it. She did it successfully a couple times at the aquarium, but Scott caught on quickly.

Our first stop was the gift shop to buy Adia a hat. I forgot to bring one, even though one of her birthday presents was an adorable sunhat. She now has a nifty lime green baseball cap that we'll keep in the car for just that type of an occasion. The amazing part was she didn't mind keeping it on her head. She only tried once or twice to pull it off and after that, she didn't care. We checked out the otters first, but they weren't being very active. Adia wasn't amused by them, but the next stop she loved. The seals and sea lions were swimming around like crazy and we could watch them underwater. Adia was enthralled. She panicked a little bit when one of the larger ones would swim near the glass, but she'd just back up against me. Once she became bored with that, we headed towards the birds.

Adia really liked all the sea birds. They were making all kinds of noises and splashing in the water. She was pointing at all of them. She'd laugh when they'd start splashing water in her direction.

Our next stop was the Passages of the Deep. I was really excited to see her reaction to being surrounded by water and fish. She didn't know where to look. She pointed at every little fish and became fascinated by the ray that had its belly against the glass. She was thoroughly confused by glass you could walk on. She seemed to really enjoy it, but it was hard to get a good picture since it's so dark. We did take pictures at the photo booth outside the exhibit though.

We went for a little walk on the nature trail in order to get to the children's playground. I set Adia on a seal to get a few pictures of her. It would have been nice for her to actually play, but there were too many other kids running and pushing. She nearly got hurt just sitting on the seal because another kid tried to climb on it.

We made our way inside and checked out the jelly fish. They weren't as many as there used to be. Adia pretty much ignored them, but she did like the anchovies and the sea nettles. She was also interested in the touch pool, but too scared to touch anything herself. We stopped at the gift shop before leaving and Adia got a cute otter t-shirt. We also did more photos in another photo booth.

On our way back to Florence, we stopped to eat in Waldport. Adia was in a really good mood. She sat between Scott and I on the booth and had her first french fry. She wasn't so sure about it and mostly just made a goobery mess. She did enjoy playing with my sunglasses though.

Adia was awake for the whole drive back. She talked most of the way and Scott got her into hysterics playing peek-a-boo. When we got back, Scott took a nap and DiDi and I took Adia to the park. She's never been to a real park before. I set her in the baby swing first. She loved it until she smacked her head on the back of the seat. I had to quickly take her out because she was screaming so loud. We thought we'd try the playground equipment instead, but that was a little bit of a disaster too. She was too scared to walk or climb in it. I tried to get her to crawl through the tunnel with me following, but she clung to me instead. The only thing she seemed to enjoy was the slide. She definitely likes going down the slide in my lap. She must enjoy the sense of falling.
