9 Month Appointment

Adia's 9 month appointment was today. I've never waited that long in their waiting room before and it was getting difficult to keep Adia away from the toys. She always wants to play with them, but doctors office waiting rooms scare me the most. It's horrible taking a healthy kid to the doctors. Adia was weighed first. She's up to 16 lbs 1.4 oz. I was guessing that she was right around 16lbs. She's only gained 1 lb in 3 months though. I could also tell that her weight gain has decreased dramatically. She's been wearing 6 month clothes since July and they still have a little room. She does wear a few things in 9 months, like pants and sweaters, but most pants she'll crawl right out of. She's now 26.7 inches long. That's about 2 inches longer than 3 months ago. I knew she'd gotten longer too. She just looks taller to me. Her head hasn't changed too much either at 42.5 cm, only 1cm bigger than last time. Her head and length are pretty much on the same curve they've already been on at the 10th and 20th percentiles. Her weight, however, is only at the 7th. She's my long skinny girl.

Her doctor wasn't too worried about it though. It's pretty common for their weight gain to slow between 6-9 months. They're eating more table foods, which are fewer calories and much more active. Adia's still eating about 24oz a day, but in less bottles. That's been nice. Her doctor was very pleased to hear that Adia LOVES yogurt and cheese. Those are two high caloric foods for her to eat that she actually likes. I think we'll try avocado soon too. That would be another good fat food. After talking to the doctor, which was very happy with her development, we went to get Adia's blood drawn. At 9 months they get their blood tested for anemia and lead. Her doctor has decided it's important to test for lead as a precaution since so many toys have been recalled lately. If it does come back with lead, I'll be surprised, but the only place it could be coming from are the Christmas tree lights.

Adia was great about getting her blood drawn. They used to always get it out of her heel, but now it's through the finger. She only cried a moment when the tech pricked her finger. Then she just stared at her and looked very interested and concerned. She really liked the band aid they placed on her afterwards. She kept playing with it and moving her hand funny. She seemed really confused by it. I had a hard time getting it off later, but I didn't want to risk her trying to eat it. By then her finger had stopped bleeding. We should get the results back in the next few days.

After her doctors appointment, we met up with Auntie Colie for lunch. Adia sat in her high chair in the beginning, but it was way past nap time. I made her bottle and she fell asleep in my arms. She slept through the meal, but woke up right before we left. She seemed happy and refreshed when she woke up, but it was no where near long enough.

Our next stop was Toys R Us. Adia's Great Grandparents were kind enough to send her some spending money and we wanted to pick out something fun. Adia LOVES Fisher Price Little People so she helped choose a castle and it's companion Little People. It looks like tons of fun and she'll be able to play with it for years to come. She's also getting a Little People dollhouse and barn for Christmas. Eventually I hope we can get her the whole village and all the companion pieces. It would be fun to set them all up. She started to get a little fussy while we wandered a bit so Auntie Colie put Adia on her shoulders. Adia was in heaven and started pulling on Auntie Colie's hair.

After Toys R Us, we hit the mall. Aunite Colie and I wandered with Adia in the stroller while Scott looked for my Christmas presents. We did a loop around the mall and stopped at The Children's Place. I love their clothes and wanted to see if they had anything cute for Adia. We got an adorable green hoodie for her. I got the 12month size so it's not going to fit for a few more months. It will be so cute with some jeans and sneakers once she starts walking. We also made a stop at the pet store. I grabbed a guinea pig so Adia could pet it. She had a blast gently petting it and started crying when I put it back. It almost makes me wish we had kept our guinea pigs, but they were just too much work with a baby. Adia was happy to see Scott again once we met up. He took her out of the stroller and we headed back to the car. Our last stop was Costco before heading home. Adia tried provolone cheese at Costco and loved it. That was a surprise to me since provolone has such a strong taste. She didn't seem to mind and wanted more. She also had toast.

Adia started to have a meltdown on our way home. She desperately needed a nap and it was already past 3. We got her home and gave her a bottle while I changed her diaper. She didn't fall asleep though. Scott scooped her up and she was out. She just needed some daddy snuggles. She slept for a little over a hour before waking up happy. It was almost dinner time by then so Daddy and Adia played until then.

Adia had an awesome dinner. She ate an entire yogurt, fed herself cheese and tried avocado. It's the first time she's ever been able to pick up the cheese. She really enjoyed it. She was also a fan of the avocado. The last time she had it was months ago and couldn't handle the texture. This time she was a bigger fan, but still wasn't too sure about it. It would definitely be a good way to get some calories in her. She also had a cinnamon graham cracker and some cheerios.

Scott gave her a bath afterwards and it may have been the longest bath she's ever taken. She'd start to act like she wanted out by pulling up on the side of the tub, but would get sidetracked by a toy and go back to playing. It happened over and over again. She also started splashing. She hasn't done that in a long time. Then it was back to playing with Scott and talking through the plastic tube. Scott took her out to the living room when she was finally done. He got her diaper on, but she was yelling "Mamama!" the whole time. I ended up dressing her and off she went.

Then it was back to playing. She's starting to get tired again. Scott's sidetracking her while I finish this. Then it will be bottle, snuggles and hopefully bed. She's teething again so she hasn't been sleeping well at all. She also won't sleep in the crib. It looks like another top tooth is trying to come through.

Oh my Lord, look at how big she is. Those bath pics really show it. She's starting to get that big girl toddler look and not so much the little baby look. Kind of bittersweet, isn't it? I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and happy New Year.

Great 9 months appointment! If you really wanna up the calories in her yogurt you can add the cream off of the top of one yogurt to another yogurt and it almost doubles the calories. I use Liberte organic yogurt. It's the fattiest, highest calorie yogurt there is! :) Trust me, I know. She is soooo adorable! I can't believe how much like a little girl she looks. No more baby there.
