Hot, Hot, Hot

Yes, it's been very hot and it's only supposed to get hotter tomorrow. Adia and I don't do well in the heat and we don't have AC either.

On Monday, Gamma came for a visit. We wore her out by walking to the mall, eating lunch at El Torito and walking home. It was hot out, but for some reason, I wasn't overheating. It must have been all that time in Colorado and California. I've become adapted, but it seems to have worn off already. Adia complained during the walk to the mall and didn't want to be in the stroller. That wouldn't be a problem, but she won't hold hands or stay close. We walked the bike path and we didn't want her getting hit by a bike or rollerblader. She ended up falling asleep, which explains a lot of the earlier complaining. We thought we'd make it to lunch with her still asleep, but she woke up just as we were leaving the mall. She was confused and didn't want to be in the stroller anymore. She seemed really hungry at El Torito though. She munched on a few chips and when they brought her quesadilla, she went nuts. She would peel open the tortillas and eat the cheese out. She even went back and ate the tortilla. She screamed bloody murder when I tried to put her back in the stroller though.

Once back in the mall, we took her out of the stroller and headed to the pet store. It there's one way to cheer Adia up, it's the pet store. She really enjoyed the kitties and I even picked up a bunny for her to pet. It was then back in the stroller. She cried half the way home before giving up. She was happy to get out, but not so happy to be getting the car. It was a trip to Costco where Adia wasn't happy about riding in the cart. When we got back to the house, Adia took a bath. She didn't want to get out, but Scott and I were planning on leaving Adia with Gamma so we could see a movie. Adia was eating snacks as we snuck out the door. I was worried about leaving her since it was before bedtime. Gamma said she cried for 30 minutes and then would periodically go to the door and say, "I wan mommy." Gamma did eventually get her to sleep though and Adia was very happy to snuggle up with me when she woke up in the middle of the night. Too bad she kicked Scott out then.

On Tuesday, Scott woke up with the idea that we should take Adia swimming. After doing a little research, I discovered that the place we wanted to take her is only open in the afternoon, at the exact time she naps. We never made it to the pool, but we did play outside for a bit. Scott took her outside while I made lunch and I joined them with a ball after a bit. Adia was having a blast with Scott. He was chasing her around and she was running away giggling. They tried playing soccer and then catch. Soon it was horsey rides until Adia discovered the dirt. She loves dirt, but she doesn't like actually being dirty.

After lunch, Adia was pretty cranky, but refused to settle down enough to sleep. I headed to the bedroom, the only air conditioned room in the house, and Adia followed. At first she only wanted to play so I made Scott take her back to the living room. After 30 minutes of crying and screaming, she came in, snuggled up and we both napped for a few hours. Adia napped for 3, but I never stay asleep that long. She was happy and refreshed when she woke up. She had fun eating cottage cheese and strawberries for dinner. It was funny to watch Adia try to feed herself cottage cheese. She got it everywhere, but loved it so much that she was nearly licking the table.

Adia was up bright and early Wednesday morning. I gave her more cottage cheese for breakfast because she seems to have gotten bored with scrambled eggs. She was gobbling it up, making a huge mess and having fun. A few minutes later I looked at her face a noticed red splotches. I washed her face off and noticed they were on both cheeks, chin, hands, arms and chest, all the places the cottage cheese had touched. I was really confused since it was the same cottage cheese she ate the night before and the same brand she had at DiDi's house. I washed her off and gave her Zyrtec. Within 30 minutes, the splotches were gone. She hasn't had anymore cottage cheese since. I don't think she's allergic since she's now drinking milk without tummy problems or hives so it was probably just her sensitive skin reacting to the acidity of the cottage cheese. It was recommended to me to put a protective layer of Vaseline over her face before giving it to her again. I'll have to try it next time.

We mostly hung around the house all day. Adia was kind of cranky and it was really hot. I took a bath with her before bed and it cooled up both off.

Thursday brought a surprise visit from DiDi, Gloria and Tanae. DiDi took Tanae to the doctor's because she was running a fever, had a bad cough since last time we saw her and was generally looking and feeling bad. Tanae has another ear infection, poor kid. I'm so glad that Adia is more like her dad when it comes to ear infections. She's had one and only one so far. When DiDi asked Tanae if she wanted to see Crysi, she started yelling yes so they came by for a visit. Adia was so excited to see Tanae and Tanae ran up and gave her a huge hug. We tried to feed them lunch, but neither one was interested. Tanae wasn't hungry because she's sick and Adia wanted to know what Tanae was doing. We ended up going to Costco and Adia and Tanae were able to sit next to each other in the cart. It started out fine until Tanae got too lovey dovey. Adia gets a little panicked when Tanae starts hugging and kissing on her, she's just not used to it.

After Costco, we went to Walmart. Tanae and Adia ran amuck. It was a disaster. They were pulling toys and shoes off shelves and it was nearly impossible to wrangle them. Adia did get a new chair and toy though and Tanae has some cute new crocs that she picked out. Once we finally dragged them out of the store, DiDi dropped us off and she went back home. Adia was not happy. She wanted to keep Tanae. If I mention Tanae's name at all now she goes running to the door and starts asking, "Nae? Nae?" It's heartbreaking to hear.

I had a rough night with Adia again. She only wanted to sleep on my chest and it's killing my back. She woke me up all night long and was up bright and early again. She was happy to see Scott when she ate breakfast though. After breakfast I took Adia on a walk. She was once again pissed to be in the stroller, but after a few minutes she calmed down. She had her baby so that made things a little better. Eventually she'd say, "Mom!" and hand me her baby. That was followed by one sandal and then the other. She was awake the entire time, periodically making excited noises when she saw the bus, dump truck and motorcycle.

We made it back and I wheeled her up to the play area on our complex. She looked up and squealed in delight. When I pulled her out of the stroller though, I noticed blood caked around one nostril. She hadn't hit her head recently and she didn't complain like she had hit herself in the stroller. I'm guessing her nose was bugging her and she must have picked it.

She played on a few things, but when she tried to go down the slide, she slid too fast and biffed at the bottom. After that, she decided it was safer to push the stroller around and head for the house. Adia watched Barney and had a snack before deciding it was lunch time instead. I made her lunch and before she was finished, she started to fall asleep in her plate. She'd take a bite, start to chew and her head would slump down, eyes closed. She did half a dozen times before she finally told me she was done. I picked her up, her head fell against my shoulder and she was gone. I was able to lay her in her bed without a peep and she took a 2 hour nap.

Adia woke up just in time to go to Scott's dentist appointment. She enjoyed watching the hygienist do her work and especially enjoyed the elevator. We made a quick run to Blockbuster before heading home. Adia ran over to the Wall-E display, pointed and said, "Wall E!" I honestly have no idea how she knew that and it really freaked me out. We went back home and Adia played while I made dinner. She refused to eat dinner though and instead tried to put peas in her ears. That ended up cutting her dinner very short. We watched a movie after her bath and Adia passed out on my chest. Her nose was still bugging her tonight. Maybe Tanae shared her cold and that's what's irritating her or maybe she has allergies.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be even hotter so we're headed back to the coast. Adia will be very happy to see DiDi, Gamma and possibly Gampa. Auntie Colie and Unky Eck may be home too.
