Halloween!

We drove to Florence for Halloween. We stopped by DiDi's classroom first. Adia thought she was in heaven with all the grapes and banana chunks DiDi had from the party. I swear she ate her weight in grapes. Then we went to the library and there was more food! Adia enjoyed the chips. She's going to think that DiDi's school is always full of food.

We headed back to DiDi's house. Adia was more than excited to be there. She went down the slide a million times, pulled out all the toys and had thoroughly trashed the entire living room within a few minutes. She ate a few more snacks before Gamma and Papa arrived to go trick or treating. I gave Adia a choice between 3 costumes, a pumpkin, alligator and fairy, and she chose the fairy. There's little surprise there. We drove down to Old Town before it got dark. Adia loved wearing her wings, but wouldn't carry her pumpkin.

Adia's first attempt at trick or treating was a disaster. Luckily it was someone we knew though. Adia started to head up the stairs to the shop, but quickly turned and buried her head against me when the shop owner came outside. Adia was completely terrified. She perked up a bit when she was offered M&Ms though. She didn't say thank you, but you could tell she was pleased. Adia eagerly skipped down the street, making sure to stop and smell some flowers.

Adia was still a bit suspicious of the whole trick or treat thing. Everyone who was handing out candy frightened her, but she was curious about the other children. She stopped dead in her tracks several time even when candy was involved. We did happen to run into one of my high school friends though. She was dressed as an M&M and gave out the appropriate candy to Adia.

We continued down the street. Adia started to understand the concept a bit more, but still refused to speak. After constant prodding, Adia eventually did say "thank you." She also said, "Bye" a few times to various people.

We finished on the opposite side of the street and Adia really enjoyed the docks. She liked looking down at the water, despite it being dark already.

We ate dinner at Moe's. Adia had a horrible time sitting on the benches. She was also getting a little tired and cranky. We didn't have much luck getting her to eat, but she certainly wanted candy when we got back home. She lounged around, enjoying her first piece of Halloween candy, a tootsie pop.

Adia watched The Little Mermaid until there was another knock on the door. This time it was Heather and Tanae! Tanae was adorable as Dorothy. They instantly hugged each other and kept staring at each other like they couldn't believe the other was really there.

We had a horrible time getting them to sleep and then Adia woke up in the middle of the night screaming for "Nae!" I managed to get her back to sleep before waking Nae, but she was still up bright and early. She let Tanae sleep a bit longer, but Tanae was still up way too early. She was cranky the rest of the day. We all started to get a bit of cabin fever since it was pouring rain outside and we couldn't go to the park.

We dropped Tanae off at home on our way back to Eugene with DiDi. Adia wasn't happy to wake up and find Tanae missing. She asked for her for quite a while, but was happy to still have DiDi. She had lots of fun with DiDi. They read books, drew pictures, looked for the moon.

I had a girls only party yesterday afternoon so Adia got to spend several hours with just her Daddy. She looked a little alarmed as they went out the door, but I knew after a few minutes, she'd be happy again. They went to Borders and Adia got a new book and coloring book. They shared ice cream and went to the mall to play. Then it was dinner at Red Robin where she actually ate her burger. She even got to wander Toys R Us and pick out a new toy. She now has a My Little Pony. I'm blaming Tanae for that one. Tanae loves her "ponies" and they watch My Little Pony together. Adia loves her new pony. She loves to "brush horsey." The came home and it was so good to hug them both. Adia was surprised to see so many people in her house though. She gave hugs to Chelsea before Chelsea had to leave. Adia cried when DiDi and Gamma left though. All day today she's been asking, "DiDi soon?" When I respond with, "Not soon. In a week." Adia keeps saying, "A week?!" It's like she's shocked at how long she has to wait.

Today was a laid back day. It was pouring rain and Adia's still sick so we stayed in pjs all day. I finally put up Adia curtain rod and curtains in her room. Gamma made them for her months ago, but I've never had a chance to screw in the curtain rod. I actually thought I wouldn't be able to do it, but I succeeded. Her room looks totally different with them up. I love them and Adia does too.

After lunch, which was "sdu sdu" or Dinty Moore stew, Adia started to get cranky. I thought for sure she'd fall asleep, but she held out. She was still up when Daddy woke up. She became crankier and crankier until it was one constant meltdown. We'd had enough so after much fighting, we got her to sleep. It was after 4 by then, but I wasn't going to survive 2-3 more hours of constant whining and kicking and screaming. She slept for almost 2 hours, but was still in a bad mood when she woke up.

I tried to feed her dinner, but she wouldn't eat anything. She just fussed more and asked for "Nigh Night." We did the normal routine, minus the bath, but after a hour and all her books, she just wouldn't stay asleep. I tried leaving the room multiple times, only to have her call after me. The last attempt ended with her following me back to the living room. She then started asking for "toast?" I figured she much finally be hungry so I made her french toast. She only ate a couple bites, but I know she'll finish it tomorrow.

She finally passed out on me after 10pm. I hope she sleeps in because she went to bed so late, but I doubt it. I HATE time changes. Turning clocks back used to be so nice, until I had a kid. Now it's awful. Adia's all messed up.

You've probably noticed that it's no longer "Gampa" but "Papa." Adia has suddenly started calling him Papa so I guess that's what his name will be. I think it's more than cute that she's chosen a name for him. It's even sweeter to hear her ask for him. I just wish he could be around more often.
