The week before graduation, we baked cookies. It was the hottest week all summer so the girls spent most of their time outside or in underwear. Less laundry, right?

That same week we went out to lunch with Gramma and Papa. The girls love this diner because they have gluten free pancakes (and french toast, but they're still stuck on the pancakes). Their pancakes are enormous and Adia can eat almost an entire one by herself. Mira is still trying gluten out. It's been 2 weeks and we've had no ill effects so I'm thinking she's in the clear. It will definitely make preschool so much easier this year.

Daddy is trying to keep up with the exercise now that he's home. Adia has decided she wants to run with him. She made it .75 mi to the park the other day and Daddy said she was running pretty well the entire time. It's so cute when they run together. I'm usually on the bike and pulling the twins in the trailer. I don't run... even if someone was chasing me.

Since Mira's getting ready to start preschool (She's all signed up!) next week, we've been practicing writing and recognizing her name. Leia's really good a recognizing letters and knows Leia starts with L. She can even draw an L. Mira has recently started trying to write her name. Her Ms, Is and As are pretty good, but she pretty much refuses to do an R. I guess we'll just start calling her Mia. One of the mom's from her preschool class asked Mira her name and Mira smiled and said, "I'm Moo Moo!" Preschool will be interesting.

We had a movie night this last week. We were out of m&ms and my black bean brownies were atrocious so I made the girls mini chocolate mug cakes with ice cream. They were a complete hit and they're relatively healthy and easy to make.

It was more sprinkler time today, but I was a little leery of being outside among the bees. A week ago Saturday, I went outside in long jeans and sneakers to ask Daddy a question. A bee apparently flew up my pants. When I went to scratch the tickle on my leg, I discovered a lump in my pants and just a second later, searing pain. Yeah, the big bee stung the crap out of my leg, just above my knee. I've never pulled off my pants so fast in my life and in the backyard no less. He left quite the stinger behind and man did it hurt. We got the stinger out, but not fast enough because I started to swell a bit. I spent most of the evening with my leg up, slathered in cold baking soda paste. It helped with the pain and by the time I went to bed, it looked like a tiny cheerio was under the skin. I figured that was the end of it and it didn't even itch that much. I had been stung by a wasp as a kid and remembered it wasn't too bad. Well, when I woke up the next morning, my leg was angry red and a little puffy. It looked similar to what mosquito bites do to me. I wasn't having trouble breathing, it was confined to the sting area and I didn't have hives anywhere else so I figured everything was ok.
Over the course of the week, it got worse, started to get better and then when I woke up Saturday morning, it was BAD. I was heavily swollen, it was spreading and itched like crazy. I thought for sure it was infected because there was streaking and it was purple and red and hot to the touch. A fellow mommy said I could drop the girls off at her house so I could run to the doctors to get it checked. That was my first Saturday appointment and there was no one there. They took me back almost immediately and when the nurse looks at your wound and says "Was that your sting?!" Eyes wide and shocked, you know it's bad. The doctor was shocked at how much swelling was under the skin. You could actually see an indent and crease around the outside and it was obvious it was spreading. I was relieved to hear it wasn't infected, but she said it was a pretty severe allergic reaction. She was surprised I wasn't experiencing trouble breathing, but luckily it had stayed localized. She was concerned that it was changing though so she prescribed 9 days of prednisone, 2 epipens because the next time I might not be so lucky, and claritin. Hopefully there won't be a next time, but I'm supposed to epipen myself and rush to the ER. All I can say is I'm glad it was me and not one of the girls.

Today, when they were outside, I had a really hard time being out with them. There were bees and wasps flying everywhere. Since I was stung by an unprovoked bee, I was terrified it would happen again. It didn't, of course, but I'm sure it's going to be a long time before I feel comfortable around bees at all. I've never cared about them before, always indifferent, but not anymore.
